Chapter 7 The Eldest Sister-in-Law's Thoughts

Nan Zhi was forced to kneel all night by Shu Zhizhen, and was only allowed to get up at dawn.

Shu Zhizhen came out with a cold face and said, "Go cook."

He left those three words behind and turned back to the main room.

"Master, how are you?"

Kneeling outside all night in the freezing cold, Nan Zhi's bones were practically frozen, but she gritted her teeth and got up, inching her way toward the kitchen.

"Master, should I punish them for you?" As a system, Cherry naturally cannot interfere in her host's affairs, but since the Nan family treated her master this way, Cherry wanted to help her master.

"No need." She will repay the Nan family for how they treated her, one by one, but not now.

Nanzhi picked up a ladle and poured water into the pot, cooking some millet porridge. The leftover steamed buns from yesterday were just enough for today.

At the dinner table, the Nan family members had different thoughts. Nan Zhi squatted down next to the chicken coop with a bowl in her hand.

After dinner, Nanzhi washed the dishes, while the others acted as if nothing had happened and continued with their own tasks.

While washing the dishes, Zhao Hui ran over and looked at Nan Zhi with a smile.

She first looked Nanzhi up and down, then clicked her tongue twice and said disdainfully, "Nanzhi, I wonder when someone like you will ever get married."

Nan Zhi ignored her. After being transformed by the spiritual spring water in the space, her body had changed. Most people couldn't tell because she deliberately messed up her hair and painted her skin wheat-colored.

"But you have gained a little weight," Zhao Hui thought to herself, wondering if Nan Zhi had secretly eaten some food. But then she realized that whether she had secretly eaten or not was no longer important. "You wait, your sister-in-law will make sure you enjoy a good life from now on."

After saying that, she wiggled her hips and walked out the door, humming a little tune.

Nan Zhi felt baffled; when had Zhao Hui ever been so kind and gentle to her?

After cleaning up the dishes, Nanzhi carried a bamboo basket and went up the mountain to cut grass to feed the chickens and pigs, just like usual.

"Big sister?"

Nanzhi turned her head in confusion.

"It really is you, big sister."

The other person's enthusiasm seemed a bit excessive, and Nanzhi then remembered that this person was Xiao Li San'er, whom she had met on the mountain a few days ago, and who was also the only witness to her falling into the water.

Seeing what Nanzhi was doing, Xiao Li San'er was shocked. "Wait, why is my sister cutting pig feed? Is this something she can do?"

"Big sister, let me do it, you should rest."

Nanzhi, who had been pushed aside, seemed to be still unaware of what had just happened.

No, she doesn't seem to be that familiar with Xiao Li San'er.

Before she could react, Xiao Li San'er had already cut a handful of pig feed and placed it in the basket at her feet.

“What are you doing here?” Nanzhi asked.

As he worked, Xiao Li San'er said, "Grandma is sick, so I'm going up the mountain to find medicine."

Nanzhi then noticed a basket placed not far away, filled with herbs.

"What illness does your grandmother have? Why don't you go see a doctor?" Nanzhi asked tentatively.

Xiao Li San'er stopped cutting grass, his face showing a bitter expression.

"The doctor examined us, but we really don't have the money to buy the medicine."

Nanzhi wanted to help him, but she was short of money and couldn't afford to spend any.

"Let's not talk about that. I heard that my eldest sister is getting married, but how can she marry that person?"

“Wait,” Nanzhi interrupted him, “get married?”

Little Li San'er: "That's right, didn't you know?"

She genuinely didn't know. "Who told you that?"

"What Sister-in-law Nan said is probably known to everyone in the entire Taile Village now."

No wonder Zhao Hui smiled at her when she went out today. She always argued with her, so why was she suddenly so nice to her?

Nanzhi quickly slung her bamboo basket over her shoulder and ran home.

Shu Zhizhen was taking the boiled eggs out of the pot when she saw Nanzhi and instinctively blocked her with her body.

"Why are you back?" The tone was somewhat accusatory.

"Mother, I heard you're going to marry me off to Zhao the Laizi from the village."

"Who told you that! Who's the gossip who told you that?"

You can tell who Zhao Laizi is just by his name. How could she marry her daughter to such a person?

"What my sister-in-law said has spread throughout the village."

Shu Zhizhen threw down the spoon in her hand, the wooden spoon landing on the stove with a dull thud.

Zhao Hui happily swayed her hips as she walked in from outside the door.

"Oh dear, Mother, what are you doing?"

The family sat in the living room, with the mother-in-law and father-in-law sitting directly above them.

"Dad, didn't you go to work with Wenxuan? It's not time to get off work yet. Did you get paid again this month?"

Zhao Hui looked at her husband with delight, only to see Nan Wenxuan constantly winking at her.

"Wenxuan, what's wrong? Are your eyes bothering you?"

Nan Wenxuan was amazed by his wife's stupidity.

"Hui'er, I heard that Nanzhi is going to be betrothed. Do you know about this?" Shu Zhizhen stared at Zhao Hui, her expression unreadable, while Nan Kai, the old man of the Nan family, had a sullen face.

Upon hearing this, Zhao Hui smiled and said, "Oh, Mother, I was just about to tell you the details."

She walked up to Shu Zhizhen and Nan Kai and continued, "Our daughter is not young anymore. In our village, people her age are already married off. I've looked at several potential wives and found one. She's a good person and comes from a good family. We're just waiting for you two to give your approval."

Shu Zhizhen looked up at her coldly, and Zhao Hui felt a chill in her heart.

No matter how badly the Nan family treated Nan Zhi, she was still the daughter of Shu Zhizhen and Nan Kai. Marriage was a matter of parents' wishes and matchmakers' words since ancient times. They were still alive, so when did it become her sister-in-law's place to interfere?

Nam Gyi took advantage of this.

"Do you think we're dead?" Shu Zhizhen said angrily. "Nanzhi is my daughter. When did it become the place for an outsider to point fingers here?"
