After confirming with the people at Song Family Pharmacy, Nanzhi went to a restaurant.
This is the 'Zhu Ji Restaurant' that Song Hanyan mentioned to her; it's considered a prestigious restaurant in the county.
The waiter looked at Nanzhi's clothes with disdain, thinking, "What kind of peasant woman has wandered into this place?"
Is their restaurant a place that ordinary people can come to?
But remembering the shopkeeper's words, he still forced a smile.
"Sir, what would you like to eat?"
Nan Zhi glanced inside. Song Hanyan wasn't there. She was hungry anyway, so she might as well eat something before leaving.
She walked to an open area and sat down, where the waiter introduced her to some of the more affordable dishes in the restaurant.
"Sir, our clear broth noodles are very refreshing. Would you like a bowl?"
Nanzhi looked at her and asked, "What's the best thing to eat at your shop?"
The waiter was clearly taken aback. Could these be the ladies the manager had mentioned who were more low-key?
However, no matter how low-key a young lady from a prominent family may be, no one would come here to eat dressed in coarse linen clothes.
The waiter remained silent, and Nanzhi raised an eyebrow: "What, nothing?"
"No, no, no, I was just a little distracted. Let me introduce you. Our Zhu Ji Restaurant is one of the top restaurants in Lingshan County. If you want to eat something, we can make it. Our restaurant's most famous dishes are Eight Treasure Duck, Crispy Chicken, Jade Cake, and so on. Of course, our number one dish is Ling Rabbit."
A clever rabbit?
Why is it called the Spirit Rabbit?
The waiter continued, "Our rabbit meat is so delicious that it makes you feel refreshed and healthy, and it's the only one of its kind in the whole county. Of course," the waiter glanced at Nanzhi, "it's not cheap either."
After hearing him boast like that, Nanzhi was curious to see what kind of dishes rabbit meat could be made into.
"A spirit rabbit, a pot of fine wine, and a stir-fry dish, you decide."
Waiter: No, this girl chose the most expensive item. Didn't she understand what he just said?
The waiter grinned and said, "Miss, a spirit rabbit costs ten taels of silver."
"What, do I look like someone who's broke?"
Waiter: "Aren't you putting me in a difficult position?"
They look rich.
Are you afraid I'll skip out on the bill?
The other person was dressed sloppily, but had a calm demeanor, and her every move showed no trace of a rural peasant woman.
"How could I dare? I'll go right away. You've come at just the right time; the rabbits were just delivered. Usually, they're sold out by evening."
Nanzhi heard another word, "just delivered," which sounded like the rabbit that Song Hanyan had sent over.
But she clearly remembered Song Hanyan saying that a rabbit cost eighty coins, but now it was selling for ten taels. This shop really knows how to make money.
When the rabbit meat was served, Nanzhi could tell from the smell that it was from their rabbit farm.
It has a unique fragrance that others might not be able to smell, but she is very familiar with it.
"Please enjoy your meal, sir."
"Wait a minute," Nan Zhi called out to him, putting down her chopsticks. "I need to see your manager."
The waiter wondered if he had done something wrong, and whether the girl was going to complain.
"Young lady, is there anything I can help you with?"
Nanzhi nodded: "I have a business deal to discuss with him."
After a cup of tea, a person appeared in front of Nanzhi.
She looked to be in her thirties or forties, very plump, and her smile resembled that of a lucky cat.
"Sir, young lady, what brings you here?"
Fu Zi has just explained everything. In Liu Dezhi's opinion, she's just a troublemaker who ate rabbit meat and didn't want to pay. However, this girl is dressed in coarse clothes, but she has an unusual air of nobility in her demeanor, so she doesn't seem like it.
The shopkeeper decided to test the waters again.
Nan Zhi laid it all out: "To be honest, shopkeeper, this rabbit was sent by my husband. The shopkeeper priced it at eighty coins, but it sold for ten taels of silver. After deducting the labor and other material costs, the shopkeeper made quite a profit."
Liu Dezhi thought to himself: Oh no, they're here to settle accounts.
Liu Dezhi chuckled and said, "Young lady, please don't say that. We businessmen can talk things over."
Nanzhi pointed to the meat on the table and asked, "How does this rabbit meat taste?"
"Extremely good, unlike anything ordinary."
"The rabbits I sell are one of a kind in the world. Once this opportunity is gone, it's gone forever."
Liu Dezhi understood what she meant, of course. "In that case, miss, I'll add two taels of silver for each rabbit, how about that?"
Nan Zhi's smile froze. "In that case, I'll go find another restaurant."
She made a move to leave.
“Hey, wait a minute, young lady,” Liu Dezhi gritted his teeth and held up five fingers, “I’ll take five taels of silver for each one.”
Nan Zhi turned her head and said with a smile, "The manager is indeed very sensible. No wonder the restaurant has grown so big. It's all thanks to the manager's wisdom."
Liu Dezhi forced a smile: "It's nothing, thank you."
This girl is really difficult to deal with.
The restaurant has gained a good reputation because of Ling Tu, and we can't let this source of income be cut off.
Nanzhi sized him up. Although he was fat, he was still a decent person. So she asked, "May I ask your surname, shopkeeper?"
"My surname is Liu. May I ask your surname, young lady?"
"South."
Liu Dezhi: "Since you're selling me this rabbit, can you guarantee it's the only one of its kind in the entire Lingshan County?"
Nan Zhi looked at him with a smile that didn't quite reach her heart.
Liu Dezhi understood; he needed to pay more.
"Add one ounce for each rabbit, that's six ounces!"
As expected, Nanzhi smiled like a blooming flower.
Nan Zhi: "Manager Liu really knows how to do business. However, I would like to discuss another business deal with Boss Liu. I wonder if the rabbit meat that my husband sent this morning is still there."
Waiter: "Yes, of course I am."
Half an hour later, a dish of spicy rabbit meat was placed in front of the two of them.
The two looked at each other, and Liu Dezhi picked up his chopsticks and took a bite.
