Chapter 1: Disposing of the Corpse in the River

In the dead of winter, March, the Taile River is frozen solid. The cold wind blows, stirring the frost-covered willows along the riverbank, and ice flakes slowly fall, creating a scene like a fairyland.

"Beat them!"

The sound was particularly jarring. A child wearing a thick cotton coat was seen on the shore directing others to punch and kick the people at their feet.

At first, the child on the ground was still struggling, but with the combined efforts of several people, the person on the ground quickly became still.

The underlings, sensing something was wrong, bent down to check the person's breath on the ground, and then collapsed to the ground.

The person who was just alive and well is now lifeless, lying motionless on the ground. "Boss, he's not breathing."

They were both fifteen or sixteen years old and had seen many situations, big and small, but they had never killed anyone before, so they immediately panicked.

"Hey, get up."

The people on the ground did not make a sound.

In this small village, Chen Siyu's family was considered one of the wealthiest. It was one thing for them to play around and cause trouble in the village on a regular basis, but if they actually killed someone and were reported, and encountered the government officials, it was unlikely that anyone could protect him.

The Taile River is frozen solid. In winter, the villagers have to break the ice to get water. The ice marks left by the villagers can still be seen on the river. The color of the water flowing below can be vaguely seen through the thin ice.

Chen Siyu composed himself, his eyes suddenly fixed on Tai Lehe, and he gritted his teeth.

In such cold weather, it won't be long before the water freezes back into thick ice, and the river won't thaw until the following year. By then, the fish will have eaten the bodies in the river down to the bones, and nobody will care who they are anymore.

"Throw it down!"

The group found some tools, broke a hole in the thin ice large enough for one person to go down, moved the emaciated body from the bank onto the river, and threw the person in before the ice froze solid.

Chen Siyu looked at the group and said, "No one is allowed to tell anyone about this, or you'll find out."

The henchmen, who usually bullied people everywhere because of Chen Siyu's influence, didn't dare to utter a sound at this moment.

Only after seeing the body gradually sink into the water did the group leave.

Cold, suffocating.

Nanzhi suddenly opened her eyes and then covered her mouth.

There was no time to think about why I was in the water. Despite my whole body being numb from the cold, I forced myself to stay awake and quickly swam upstream.

The ice overhead was solid, and Nanzhi couldn't break it even with all her strength.

She kept searching beneath the ice, trying to break through the only way out, but gradually she was about to give up.

Suddenly she saw all the fish around her swimming towards the top of her head in one direction, so she quickly kicked her legs and swam after them.

As she approached, the fish gradually scattered.

The ice here is very thin, as if it had just solidified. Nanzhi threw a punch at the ice, and the thin ice broke, allowing the river water to surge up.

In the dead of winter, touching the ice feels like slicing your hand across a sharp blade—it's incredibly painful.

But the moment she surfaced from the water, she seemed to come back to life. She took a deep breath, and the fresh air filled her lungs, relieving the pressure on her internal organs and the feeling of suffocation.

After finally climbing out of the water, she began to shiver in the cold wind, and the thin clothes she was wearing started to freeze.

Nanzhi dragged her heavy body to the shore, the icy wind blowing against her.

Her whole body was freezing; if she stayed like this any longer, she would freeze to death on this shore.

I've traversed this route countless times, and each time it's the same result.

It's either on the road to Ga, or it's on the road to Ga.

An endless supporting character, destined to die within three seconds.

The biting cold made her head spin, and she curled up tightly, afraid to move. Nanzhi thought she might be going to die again.

I just don't know where I'll be when I wake up next time.

The crunching sound reached my ears, like the sound of footsteps on snow. I had just reached out my hand, and before I could even call for help, I had already fainted.

When I woke up, I found myself lying on a woolen bed and covered with a deerskin coat, all warm and cozy.

But where was this place? Nanzhi carefully observed her surroundings.

The room was small and very simple, containing only a wooden bed and two tables.

The table had two sizes; one held daily necessities, while the other had several bags that looked like they contained food, though not much. The room was small but very clean. Had I somehow traveled to another place?

Nanzhi got out of bed, and as soon as her feet touched the ground and she stood up, a sudden feeling of weakness and dizziness made her fall back onto the bed.

The noise inside startled the people outside. The man outside strolled in, saw that the girl on the bed had woken up, helped her sit up, took off the shoes she had just put on, put her on the bed and covered her with clothes.

"You've had a fever for two days, and you're weak now. You need to rest."

His voice was deep and magnetic, like ripples spreading across a cold pool that had been silent for a thousand years, a sound that was soothing to listen to.

Nanzhi finally regained some clarity of mind.

The man in front of her was a burly, unshaven, and unusually handsome man who didn't seem like a bad person, so Nanzhi finally couldn't help but ask.

"Who are you?" The voice was hoarse and unpleasant.

The man walked to the stove and poured a cup of hot water.

"Don't worry, I'm not a bad person. I just saw you collapsed by the river, so I picked you up. But you've been unconscious for two days, so wait until you feel better before going back."

Riverside? Two days!!!

He didn't die this time!

Nan Zhi gripped the cup tightly, her hands trembling slightly, and the water inside spilled out with her movements.

The man standing beside her frowned, about to offer a reminder, when suddenly the person on the bed sat up.
