Nanzhi took a nap during the lunch break, and the rabbit incident was thus glossed over. Fortunately, Song Hanyan did not pursue the matter further.
In the afternoon, Nan Zhi and Song Hanyan took two large rabbits to Grandma Nan's house.
The daughter returns to her parents' home three days after her wedding, but since Nanzhi has severed ties with Nankai, she naturally doesn't need to go. Besides, Nanzhi doesn't want to see that troublesome family.
But Old Lady Nan still wanted to pay a visit, after all, she was someone who genuinely cared for the original owner of this body.
Grandma Nan now lives with her eldest son, who is honest and filial, and the family is doing quite well.
Grandma Nan was delighted to see them and welcomed them in.
"Look at you, you came all this way, why did you bring anything?"
After saying that, she glanced at Song Hanyan next to her granddaughter, but still felt scared. So she quietly pulled her granddaughter aside and asked him in a low voice.
"Zhizhi, if you've suffered any injustice, just tell me. We Nan family members aren't easy to bully."
Even if she can't beat him, there's still his son. I don't believe that so many people can't defeat him.
Nanzhi knew she had misunderstood: "Grandma, I'm fine, and he's very good to me too."
Grandma Nan pulled her granddaughter over and looked her up and down. There were no scars on her body, and she seemed to have gained weight even more than before.
Only then did I feel relieved.
"Mother, I heard that Zhizhi has come." The burly man lifted the curtain and was startled to see Song Hanyan with a full beard.
He's taller and stronger than him; if it really came down to a fight, he'd be no match for him.
Nan Qun glanced at the petite Nan Zhi, then stole a glance at Song Hanyan.
How could my second brother's family bear to marry their precious little girl to such a rough man?
Seeing that Nan Qun was somewhat afraid, Nan Zhi took the rabbit from Song Hanyan and handed it to Nan Qun.
"Uncle, this is a rabbit that Song Hanyan just hunted this morning. Please accept it if you don't mind."
"I can't accept this." Nan Qun looked at Old Madam Nan, waiting for her to speak.
Grandma Nan: "You hunted the rabbit. You can sell it for a lot of money. Take it back quickly."
"Grandma, this is for you, so please don't be shy with us."
Grandma Nan looked at the two men's faces for a while, then nodded to Nan Qun.
The curtain was lifted again, revealing a little radish head.
The first thing he thought when he saw Nanzhi was, "Father, is my sister here to freeload again?"
Nanzhi's hands froze in mid-air, unsure of what to do.
Although Old Lady Nan occasionally helped the original owner, she always came over. It's easy to imagine that a nine-year-old child could say such things.
"You little brat, what are you saying!" Old Mrs. Nan rarely got angry at her grandson.
Searching through the original owner's memories, they discovered that the child was the aunt's youngest son.
The smaller one is Nan Chungu, and the other larger one is called Nan Chunxian.
Nan Chungu was only a few years old. He was his uncle's youngest son and was very much loved by his family.
Nan Qun happily took the rabbit and went to the kitchen to hand it to Qian Lanfang.
Qian Lanfang asked in surprise, "Why are there two extra rabbits?"
"It was brought over by Nanzhi and her husband."
When Nanzhi arrived, Qian Lanfang was busy in the kitchen and therefore did not see the two of them.
The family rarely eats meat throughout the year, so Qian Lanfang was happy to see two plump rabbits.
"Is the old lady going to send something to her granddaughter again?"
She disagreed when the old lady wanted to give her the wedding dress, but there was nothing she could do. After all, it was the old lady's private property, and she had no right to interfere.
Sending food is fine normally, but if it's money, Qian Lanfang will be the first to disagree.
Nan Qun replied, "Go cook your meal."
Before long, both rabbits were made into meat.
Nan Chungu, who was playing outside, came in after smelling the aroma.
"Mom, what delicious food are we having today? It smells so good!"
Qian Lanfang patted her youngest son's head: "Your sister Zhi brought two rabbits. I'll stew them and we'll eat them together later."
"Okay."
Chun Gu leaned closer to the pot and sniffed it again, reluctant to leave.
During the meal, everyone sat together.
Nanzhi picked up a piece of rabbit meat with her chopsticks and put it in her mouth, finding it surprisingly delicious.
"Auntie cooks so well, it's delicious," Nanzhi praised.
She already disliked the second son's family, and even found Nanzhi disagreeable. But hearing Nanzhi's praise now, she found her much more agreeable.
Qian Lanfang: "Eat more if you like it. I know you haven't eaten anything good at your second brother's house."
Nan Chungu looked at Nan Zhi and then at the fragrant rabbit meat: "Mother, will my sister take the pot with her later?"
Qian Lanfang's smile froze on her face. Why did this kid have to tell everyone everything?
"What are you saying? The rabbit was brought by your sister and brother-in-law. What nonsense are you talking about, you little kid?"
Grandma Nan was visibly unhappy.
"Oh." Nan Chungu felt a little scared because the bearded man opposite him was staring at him, so he hid behind Qian Lanfang.
With the food in good condition, Qian Lanfang's old habit resurfaced: "No matter how bad the second son is, you can't just sever ties like that. Our parents are still alive; this is unfilial."
Old Mrs. Nan: "Shut up, even eating can't shut you up."
Qian Lanfang knew to open her mouth, but swallowed back the words that were about to come out.
Nan Zhi didn't think much of it. The ancients placed filial piety first, but for Nan Zhi, the original owner had already repaid what she owed the Nan family.
Seeing that Nan Zhi was unaffected, Old Madam Nan said, "You know what kind of people the second son's family are. My granddaughter finally managed to escape, are you going to let her go back?"
Seeing that the old lady was angry, Qian Lanfang said with an embarrassed smile, "Mother, I was just saying."
The second son's family are bloodsuckers; everyone avoids them like the plague. Who wants to get involved with them?
Grandma Nan: "From now on, my granddaughter can do whatever she wants, so don't interfere."
The dinner table fell silent. Song Hanyan didn't say a word the whole time, and the Nan family members didn't dare to speak either, because he exuded too much hostility.
After finishing their meal, the two headed back.
Since she had just finished eating, Nanzhi planned to take a walk back to digest her food.
Not long after we started walking, we heard a rustling sound from the grass and trees around us.
Song Hanyan immediately shielded Nanzhi behind him.
"What is that? Come out."
Nanzhi was also very scared. This place was at the foot of the mountain, and there were few people around in the evening. The animals in the forest came out to roam, and it would be terrible if they encountered a tiger or something.
Cao Lin thought for a while, and then something inside poked its head out.
Nanzhi recognized the person: "Chungu, what are you doing here?"
Spring Valley strolled over slowly, getting closer to South Branch.
"Grandma told you to be careful because there have been thieves in the village recently."
Nanzhi patted his head, then took out three candies from her pocket and handed them to him.
"Candy!" Chun Gu's eyes lit up, and he couldn't wait to peel one open and put it in his mouth.
"Thank you, sister."
It seems the older sister really didn't come to his house to freeload, because he got some candy.
