Live on
"Sheng Xingxing! Come in and help!"
Upon hearing the sound, the person at the door stepped into the room. After being hit by something Tang Yan threw at him, he walked to the millstone, placed it inside, and began to work hard.
The person on the bed was badly injured, with purplish lips. He had just been given a pill, which made him vomit up all the accumulated blood clots.
However, Tang Qi did not improve after vomiting the blood clots. In fact, she began to vomit blood in waves, and Tang Yan's clothes were stained with blood.
"Should we boil it?" Sheng Xingxing asked Tang Yan, holding up the freshly crushed herbs.
She snatched the things from Sheng Xingxing's side and said anxiously, "It's too late."
Originally, the medicine was supposed to be boiled into a decoction and given to Tang Qi to treat the internal bleeding problem, but there was no time to wait. Tang Yan simply took the juice, mixed it together, and fed it directly into his mouth. After drinking it all, he also stuffed a pill into his mouth before it was all over.
"What kind of medicine is that?" Sheng Xingxing asked.
“If it’s not boiled into a soup, the medicinal properties will be very strong. I gave him a pill to dilute the effects, so at least it won’t be too fatal.”
Tang Yan then asked Sheng Xingxing to get a clean bandage, while she poured medicine powder onto the wound on Tang Qi's back.
The moment the powder was poured on, the person on the bed suddenly shuddered.
"Bear with the pain. If you don't treat it, the wound will definitely fester. If the infection spreads, you might end up bedridden for life and regret it." Although Tang Yan said this, she actually lightened the pressure on her hands.
Tang Qi was awakened by the pain. The medicine powder burned like fire on his back when it touched the wound, making him grimace in pain.
"She's awake! She's awake!"
Someone shouted something.
Tang Qi was not fully conscious; he could only vaguely hear some sounds, and the pain in his body prevented him from thinking.
Thankfully, I can still feel the pain.
Almost instinctively, Tang Qi grabbed the arm of the person next to her, not caring who it was, and began to speak:
"Find Cheng Wang, he's not dead."
After saying this, Tang Qi, like a puppet with its strings cut, suddenly lost all strength and fainted again.
Before the doctor arrived, Tang Qi had been dizzy and waking up several times, and even started to have a high fever.
Apart from that one sentence, Tang Qi didn't say another word.
Ye Qian, who was being given his "last words" while his arm was being grabbed, was stunned for a long time before he realized what he was talking about.
Find Cheng Wang and tell him that Tang Qi is not dead and is still alive.
He didn't understand what Tang Qi meant. Why did he have to go out of his way to find someone to tell him that he wasn't dead?
But when Ye Qian actually found Cheng Junshi at the cemetery, he realized how necessary this matter was.
In the entire cemetery, Cheng Junshi was the only living person.
As the sun set, he knelt in the fading light, surrounded only by corpses lying face up.
It was a very strange scene. Ye Qian stood there, mouth slightly agape, for a long time before he dared to softly ask, "Cheng Junshi?"
He seemed not to hear, until Ye Qian called out again, and Cheng Junshi turned his head towards him blankly as if he had been brought back to his senses.
Ye Qian was startled by the look in those eyes; they were lifeless, hopeless eyes, devoid of any vitality.
“He’s not dead,” Ye Qian said.
Cheng Junshi raised an eyebrow, seemingly not quite understanding.
“He’s still alive,” Ye Qian continued, staring into those eyes. “He told me to find you, and then tell you he’s not dead.”
Like a shooting star hitting his eyes, Cheng Junshi's eyes gradually brightened, and finally he lowered his head and laughed out loud, a very cheerful, somewhat crazy laugh.
When they returned to the princess's residence, the apothecary they had found had already arrived. Tang Yan was standing guard outside the door, her clothes covered in blood. Sheng Xingxing was also there, bending down to wipe Tang Yan's hands.
Upon seeing Ye Qian and Cheng Junshi, Tang Yan's eyes first fell on Cheng Wang. Seeing that he was also covered in blood, her brows furrowed almost imperceptibly.
When Sheng Xingxing turned around and saw Cheng Wang covered in blood, she was so shocked that she almost screamed.
"You...you..."
He pointed at Cheng Junshi for a long time without saying a word.
"How is he?" Cheng Wang asked directly, ignoring Sheng Xingxing's fear.
"I don't know, we'll have to wait for Elder Yao to come out," Shen Zhiqing said from the side.
Cheng Wang nodded, swallowing hard as his mouth felt dry.
"Where's Yun'an? Hasn't he come back yet?" Ye Qian asked.
“My elder sister is in the palace. With her there, Father won’t do anything. You don’t need to worry,” Sheng Xingxing said.
Ye Qian then looked at Tang Yan and asked, "How was he before you came out?"
“He’s not in good condition. I gave him some medicine, hoping it will help stop the bleeding.” She shook her head.
Tang Yan felt that Ye Qian's gaze towards her was strange, an indescribable feeling, especially after she finished speaking.
His eyes seemed to have so much to say to her, but in the end, Ye Qian only said one sentence: "You must, you absolutely must save him."
“We were only called here by my elder sister to help. Whether he lives or dies, Ayan has done her best.” Sheng Xingxing looked at Ye Qian and said, “Saving people is not her duty.”
He then took Tang Yan's hand and said, "We've been out of the palace long enough, Ayan. If we don't go back soon, we'll be discovered."
Tang Yan was being pulled along by Sheng Xingxing when Cheng Junshi suddenly stopped in his tracks.
She stopped in front of Cheng Junshi, raised her head and stared into his eyes, her gaze cold.
"Are you this devoted and passionate to everyone?"
Cheng Junshi frowned slightly, as if he found Tang Yan's inexplicable questioning strange.
"Fine, of course you have that right."
It was still a nonsensical sentence. But Cheng Junshi understood it.
He stared blankly at the person in front of him, as if his most despicable and unseen inner self had been laid bare before him, and an indescribable shame filled his entire mind.
His feelings, the feelings he thought he had hidden well, had actually been exposed long ago and were spied on by someone without his knowledge.
Before Cheng Junshi could say anything, Tang Yan had already turned and left.
He remained rooted to the spot, and it took him a long time to finally calm his wildly beating heart.
Oh well, if you know, you know.
Cheng Junshi lowered his eyes and stared intently at the door in front of him.
The truth will come out sooner or later anyway.
The door creaked open, and an old man walked out—it was the pharmacist whom Shen Zhiqing had invited to save the person.
As soon as he stepped out, Cheng Junshi and the others immediately surrounded him.
"He's alright. He's been saved." The old man reassured them first, then looked around before asking, "Before I arrived, did someone treat him?"
Just as Shen Zhiqing nodded, the old man's eyes suddenly lit up and he ran up to her, asking, "Where is he?!"
"They...they've left. They just left. What's wrong, Elder Yao?" Shen Zhiqing asked abruptly.
"You little brat! You didn't even know how to help me keep him here!" The old apothecary pointed at her head, stomped the ground a few times angrily, and then said, "This person uses very unusual medicine, he's a promising talent. You must know him, Chen girl, right? Next time you see him, be sure to bring him here, you hear me!"
Shen Zhiqing immediately stood at attention and nodded: "Understood."
The old doctor grunted twice and continued, "You never come to see me normally, but you only think of bothering this old geezer when someone is about to die."
"Master Yao!" Shen Zhiqing took his arm and said, "Isn't it because you're the only person I can think of at such a critical moment? After all, in this world, who else but you can snatch people from the clutches of the King of Hell?"
The old man chuckled at her words, then stroked his beard and raised his head, saying, "That's right, he's lucky to have met me."
"Although he survived, he still needs to recover properly—" The old doctor's voice suddenly softened, and he asked Shen Zhiqing with a gossipy expression, "What crime did he commit that he got beaten up like this?"
Shen Zhiqing shrugged but did not answer.
"I remember last time too?" The old apothecary stroked his beard and only spoke quietly after seeing Shen Zhiqing nod. "What bad luck, really."
Shen Zhiqing smiled wryly, quite agreeing with that statement.
Tang Qi, the "unlucky fellow," was still unconscious, and Cheng Junshi was squatting beside him.
“I can’t stay too long,” Cheng Junshi said to Ye Qian, though his eyes were fixed on Tang Qi. “You’ll probably have to keep an eye on things.”
Ye Qian hummed in agreement. Although he felt that Cheng Junshi's instructions were a bit unnecessary, his eyes still unconsciously turned to him.
"You...you don't need to go back to the mansion?"
Ye Qian was referring to Cheng Junshi, who got covered in blood because he had turned over too many corpses.
From the moment he found Cheng Junshi, the two of them rushed here without stopping, and Cheng Junshi didn't even have time to clean the bloodstains on his body.
When he squatted down in front of Tang Qi's bed, Ye Qian saw two people covered in blood. Anyone who didn't know better would have thought the two had been engaged in a fierce and earth-shattering fight.
“I want to stay a little longer,” Cheng Junshi said.
His voice was soft and gentle, so soft that it seemed unreal to Ye Qian.
But Cheng Junshi's gaze was intense. He squatted there, listening to Tang Qi's shallow breathing, as if he was already very satisfied with that.
Ye Qian stood to the side for a long time. Seeing this scene, he suddenly felt a bit superfluous, so he quietly turned around and left, carefully closing the door behind him, leaving the two of them to their own devices.
Just before closing the door, Ye Qian couldn't help but look up at where the two were.
Cheng Junshi kept a distance from Tang Qi, as if he had done so intentionally. Cheng Junshi's hands were covered in dirty blood, so Tang Qi didn't dare to touch him.
In fact, Ye Qian felt that Tang Qi wasn't much better off—although Tang Yan and Yao Lao had bandaged his body, there was still blood in the places where it should be, and he was no better off than Cheng Junshi.
But Cheng Junshi's gaze made him feel that the person lying on the bed was not covered in blood, but a clean person, as precious as a piece of jade.
This illusion startled Ye Qian, and he quickly closed the door and went out.
After seeing the old doctor off, Shen Zhiqing returned. When she saw Ye Qian, she was about to speak when he put his finger to his lips and gently shushed her. So Shen Zhiqing kept quiet and followed him to sit down.
"Are you awake?"
Ye Qian shook his head, and Shen Zhiqing asked again, "Is someone inside?"
"Um."
"Cheng Shaoqing?" Shen Zhiqing asked tentatively.
Ye Qian hummed in agreement again.
Now it was Shen Zhiqing's turn to laugh: "These two are really something."
Ye Qian understood what she didn't say, and the two of them lowered their heads and chuckled for a while.
“He must have really been badly hurt this time,” Shen Zhiqing said, shaking his head.
“With Zhong Le’s personality, he won’t turn back until he’s smashed to pieces,” Ye Qian continued. “It’s good to fall like this once, so he can walk more steadily after he’s on the ground.”
After they finished speaking, the two sat together in silence for a long time.
"Ye Quchi." After a long while, Shen Zhiqing suddenly called his name, and Ye Qian turned his head to look at her blankly.
"I hated you at first."
