Chapter 2 Great Fortune Possession

I rushed downstairs, and the streets were already nearly deserted.

She used to be part of the millions of commuters who would travel to the subway station with her, but now only a handful remain.

An hour ago, seeing this scene would have made her overjoyed, as if she had won the lottery; but now, she can't be happy for a moment.

As I passed a breakfast shop, a loud voice suddenly rang out: "Yi Meizi! Breakfast! Your breakfast!"

The speaker was the owner of the breakfast shop. To make it easier for her to have breakfast, Jiang Yimei usually prepaid a week's worth of breakfast money to the breakfast shop owner.

This way, she can grab breakfast as soon as she goes downstairs and eat it while she goes to work, saving both time and effort.

"Uncle, if you're in a hurry today, you can skip it. Just give it to whoever wants it!"

"Okay! If it sells, I won't charge you today."

"Thank you, uncle!"

"This child is usually quite punctual, why is he late today?"

Shaking his head, the breakfast shop owner took back the breakfast that had been prepared especially for Jiang Yimei.

Jiang Yimei sprinted towards the subway station and finally boarded the train before 8:37.

However, it takes more than 20 minutes to get from the subway station near her apartment to the subway station near her company, and it's also a few minutes' walk from the subway station to her office building; so after calculating, she felt that there was still a high chance that she would be late today.

There's no use in rushing now. The only thing to do is calm down and touch up your makeup with a simple, light touch.

She didn't know how much time had passed when a small ball, which seemed to appear out of nowhere, suddenly rolled to her feet.

She subconsciously stopped what she was doing and looked down.

Upon discovering that it was a small yellow ball, she bent down, picked it up, and handed it to a child who was running towards her.

The child took the ball, a pure and innocent smile on her face, and politely thanked her, saying, "Thank you, sister."

Jiang Yimei was melted by the child's bright smile, and put aside her irritation, she smiled and replied, "You're welcome!"

The child didn't leave, but stared intently at her flawless forehead. After a long while, he murmured, "Sister, your forehead is so bright! Grandpa said that a bright forehead means great luck. Sister, you must have great luck today."

"Is he possessed by a stroke of great fortune?"

Jiang Yimei doesn't dare to praise the Grand Canal; she should be grateful if she doesn't have bad luck.

The child might have said that out of gratitude or curiosity, and she didn't need to take it to heart. So, she politely but appropriately replied, "But as you wish!"

After saying that, she continued applying her makeup.

The child ran off to play by himself in the distance.

Twenty minutes passed in the blink of an eye. When she put down her makeup brush, there was only one more stop to reach the subway station near the company.

She glanced at the time on her phone, and for some reason, her heart started pounding; she felt incredibly uneasy.

"Ding-dong!"

A few minutes later, the train arrived at the station.

After leaving the train, she hurriedly set off again.

She ran all the way and finally arrived at the company building, but when she checked the time, she was already five minutes late.

Extremely frustrating, she tried her best, but still couldn't get to the company before work.

Having already given up, she dragged her heavy steps slowly toward the company; all she could think about was that the old witch wouldn't be there, or that her scolding wouldn't be too harsh, or her punishment not too severe.

Take the elevator to the office floor.

Before she even stepped inside, she felt a chilling aura that seemed to want to tear her to pieces.
