Fu Qinian glanced at the wall clock; the hour hand pointed to a little past six in the evening, time for dinner, but Huo Jinning hadn't made a move yet.
He raised his hand and gently knocked on the door. The "knock knock knock" sound echoed in the quiet room, but there was no response from inside.
Fu Qinian wondered why he was still asleep.
After hesitating for a moment, he reached out and grasped the doorknob, then slowly pushed open the door.
With a soft creak, the door opened a crack, and Fu Qinian peeked inside. He saw Huo Jin lying quietly on her side on the bed, her long, black hair spread out on the pillow. Her face was serene, and the corners of her mouth were slightly upturned, as if she were having a wonderful dream.
Fu Qinian carefully pushed the wheelchair slowly into the room.
He called Huo Jinning's name softly, but the only response he received was the slight sound of Huo Jinning turning over, with no sign of her waking up.
Left with no other choice, Fu Qinian gently nudged Huo Jinning's arm.
He couldn't help but recall a similar scene from the last time—also in a car, when Dr. Huo Jinning was in the same deep sleep as he is now.
Huo Jinning frowned slightly, her eyes gradually opening, revealing a hint of confusion, as if she had no idea what was happening before her.
After a while, she slowly sat up and gently shook her head, trying to regain her senses more quickly.
Once she regained some clarity, she turned her gaze to Fu Qinian again, as if only now realizing her own predicament.
Fu Qinian gazed quietly at the scene before him, inwardly marveling: Huo Jinning at this moment resembled a lazy Persian cat, almost identical to the photo she used as her social media profile picture, making one want to reach out and pet her.
"You're awake, time to eat," Fu Qin said softly, his voice carrying an indescribable tenderness.
"Eat?" Huo Jinning repeated subconsciously.
I was still wondering if I had already eaten.
But why do we need to eat now?
She tried hard to recall, but her memory seemed to have a brief blank, and she didn't realize that she might have overslept.
"Yes, dinner's ready." Fu Qinian replied patiently, a barely perceptible smile flashing in his eyes.
"What? Dinner?" Huo Jinning sat up abruptly in bed, staring at the other person in astonishment.
She hurriedly picked up her phone, which was lying to the side, and the time displayed on the screen was already past 6:40 pm!
Only then did she realize that she had unknowingly slept for the entire afternoon.
"I'll get up right away," Huo Jinning said hurriedly as she quickly stood up and put on her shoes.
"I'd like to wash my face first. Where's the restroom?" she asked, a little embarrassed.
Fu Qinian stretched out his hand and pointed in a certain direction: "Over there."
"Okay, thank you, I'll be right back." Before she finished speaking, Huo Jinning strode towards the restroom, as if afraid of wasting even a second.
[Ah! Ah! Ah! I'm so embarrassed!]
[I've become like a pig, eating and then sleeping, sleeping and then eating again.]
[How did I end up sleeping until dinnertime?]
[I don't usually sleep this much!]
[It's all Fu Qinian's fault; the bed is so comfortable, that's why I slept for so long.]
Yes, it's all his fault.
Fu Qinian raised the corners of his mouth slightly, his gaze turning towards the direction of the restroom, revealing a smile that was both indulgent and helpless.
He pondered to himself that Huo Jinning, who usually seemed so well-behaved and quiet, actually had such a rich inner world.
Sure enough, just three minutes later, Huo Jinning hurriedly came out of the restroom.
Her cheeks were wet, and she hadn't even had time to wipe the water droplets off.
"Alright, let's go down!" Huo Jinning said in a light tone.
"good."
As Fu Qinian continued to get to know Huo Jinning, he felt more and more that she was different from others.
This girl never dresses up deliberately, always appearing with a bare face and comfortable sportswear; her eyes light up immediately when she sees delicious food.
She is simple-minded, and any emotion or thought she has is expressed on her face without reservation, so there is no need for anyone to guess.
The two then went downstairs together.
"Ningning, have you rested enough? Come sit here for a while, the food will be ready soon." Wei Qiuwan warmly greeted Huo Jinning.
"Okay, thank you, Aunt Fu." Huo Jinning blushed slightly and replied softly with her head down.
As soon as Huo Jinning sat down, her cell phone on the table suddenly rang.
"Ningning, where are you now? Are you coming home for dinner?" Zhao Qiuying's gentle and warm voice came through the phone.
"Mom, I'm at Fu Qinian's house right now. I won't be home for dinner tonight," Huo Jinning replied in a low voice.
"What? You said you're where?" Zhao Qiuying raised her voice upon hearing this, her tone filled with surprise and doubt.
"Aunt Fu, I'm sorry, I need to take this call first."
Huo Jinning covered the phone's microphone with her hand while nodding apologetically to Wei Qiuwan.
"Okay, no problem. Go ahead and pick it up." Wei Qiuwan smiled, indicating her understanding and giving an affirmative reply.
After receiving the reply, Huo Jinning quickly got up from her seat, found a quiet and secluded corner, and answered the phone again.
"Mom, it's like this, Fu Qinian's grandfather is sick and hospitalized, so I came to visit him. I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you, and I made you worry."
