Chapter 60 A Corpse

Qian Chengfeng and Ye Lan's meticulously planned scheme would have been flawless and impeccable had Huo Jinning not interfered.

After the Huo siblings left, Ye Lan dialed other people's numbers to arrange a meeting place and time.

Everything was proceeding smoothly and in an orderly manner according to the established plan.

After finishing these tasks, Ye Lan returned home and went to a nearby supermarket to purchase the necessary items.

When she returned home and saw the lifeless body in the living room, she showed no fear whatsoever. Instead, she breathed a sigh of relief—from now on, this person would never be able to disturb her life again.

Next, Ye Lan, as if genuinely inviting friends to dinner, began preparing hot pot ingredients and neatly arranged all the necessities on the table.

She glanced at the clock and realized that the appointed time was approaching, so she turned off the air conditioner, opened the window, and let the cool air in the room gradually dissipate.

It's worth mentioning that when purchasing ingredients, Ye Lan specifically skipped alcoholic beverages.

At this moment, Qian Chengfeng called to tell her that Huo Nanchu had arrived at the entrance of the residential area.

Upon receiving the news, Ye Lan immediately stepped out of her house and exited through another exit.

The moment Huo Nanchu heard his sister's thoughts, a plan formed in his mind.

He pondered to himself and felt that Huo Jinning's words made sense; bringing a law enforcement officer along was indeed the safest option.

So he said, "Ningning, wait a moment, I'll make a phone call."

“Okay, no problem.” Huo Jinning replied obediently, and then placed the items she had bought into the car one by one.

She stood quietly to the side, patiently waiting for Huo Nanchu to finish his call.

"Hey, Anan, what's up?" A deep and steady male voice came from the other end of the phone.

This person is none other than Wang Bin, Huo Nanchu's close friend, who is currently the captain of the city's criminal investigation team.

"Here's the thing, Ye Lan said she wanted to get everyone together today, and I was wondering if you're free?"

"Oh? You two made up?" Wang Bin asked, somewhat surprised.

"No way! You know we used to date. This time she even invited Ah Feng and my older cousin, and they seem to be trying to get us back together," Huo Nanchu explained helplessly.

"But I've only ever felt brotherly affection for Ye Lan, nothing more. So I was thinking that if you could come to the party, you might be able to help me fend off their advances, since they're all quite wary of you," Huo Nanchu pleaded with a wry smile.

"The past is the past, and I really don't want to have anything to do with her anymore. I didn't originally plan to attend this gathering today, but she invited some other people, and it seemed inappropriate not to go."

"Alright, I get it now. So I was just a decoy. After this is all over, you'll have to treat me to a big meal!" Wang Bin readily agreed.

"Okay, absolutely no problem!"

Huo Nanchu then instructed, "Later, you take my sister and follow behind me. We're going to give them a surprise."

"I hope this surprise doesn't turn into a shock!" Wang Bin joked.

"Haha, this is not bad either." Huo Nanchu couldn't help but laugh.

[My older brother is so lucky! He actually thought of him.]

[I remember reading in the book that Wang Bin was the captain of an enforcement team.]

[His elder brother died abroad, and he even applied to go abroad to look for him, although he ultimately had to return disappointed, and was deeply affected by it.]

[But this person's character is impeccable; how come I didn't think of that?]

[His departure doesn't seem out of place at all; they grew up together.]

[Hehe, that's great.]

[He was right; the surprise turned into a shock.]

After Huo Nanchu hung up the phone, he said, "Ningning, one of my childhood friends is coming too. You can ride in his car and follow behind me."

"Okay, sure." Huo Jinning nodded obediently.

Huo Nanchu never expected that this would make the people at the entrance of the community think that he was the only one there, allowing him to enter the community smoothly.

Wang Bin already knew that the Huo family had found their biological daughter, but he had never met her before. Today was the first time he had seen her.

The three of them met at the door.

Huo Nanchu rang the doorbell, but no one answered for a long time.

"No, you must have gotten the wrong person?" Huo Jinning asked, pretending not to know.

"No, I even checked the address. See, is this the place?" Huo Nanchu took out her phone and handed it to Huo Jinning.

"That's true." Huo Jinning glanced at it and nodded.

"Why don't you give Ye Lan a call?" Wang Bin suggested.

"Okay, sure."

Ye Lan explained that she had forgotten to buy drinks and asked Huo Nanchu to go in first, saying she would be right back.

The three of them opened the door and went inside.

Huo Nanchu deliberately walked ahead of Huo Jinning, afraid of startling her.

I wonder what it's like inside.

[Will it be scary?]

This is the first time I've ever seen a dead person.

"Anan, do you think Ye Lan might have only invited you? Maybe she's preparing a big surprise for you in her room..." Wang Bin said excitedly as he pushed open the door.

However, when he saw the scene inside the room, the smile on his face vanished instantly, and he swallowed back the words he had planned to say.

"Why is this room so cold?" Huo Jinning followed closely behind her brother, frowning and muttering as if she didn't know.

Upon hearing this, Wang Bin's heart skipped a beat. He picked up the thermometer placed by the door and glanced at it—18 degrees Celsius! This temperature was clearly too low and definitely not within the normal range.

Therefore, the only explanation is...

"You two go out first, don't come in." Wang Bin turned around abruptly and stretched out his arm to block the Huo siblings who were about to step into the house.

"What's wrong, Brother Wang? Why are you suddenly not letting us in?"

Huo Jinning blinked, deliberately feigning ignorance, and asked.

Wang Bin didn't have time to reply to Huo Jinning. Instead, he went straight into the room to check if the person still had any vital signs. There was no pulse, the heart had stopped beating, and the pupils were dilated, confirming death.

"Well, there might be a problem inside. I need to make a call to handle it." Wang Bin came out a moment later, explained to the two of them, and then made the call.

"Brother Wang, you go ahead with your work." Huo Jinning nodded obediently.

Seeing the two working so well together, Wang Bin breathed a sigh of relief and then quickly dialed a number: "Something's come up here. Bring a few people over, and also invite Old Li along."

His voice was deep and steady.

"Okay." The person on the other end of the phone immediately became serious.

"Okay, hurry up."

"Brother Bin, what's going on?" Huo Nanchu asked, pretending not to know.

[What else could it be? There's a corpse inside.]

[My older brother is really lucky; he managed to break through that barrier.]

My miniature camera is no longer needed.

[Brother Wang, that's amazing!]

"There's a corpse inside, so don't ask about it. Just take your sister back first," Wang Bin whispered to Huo Nanchu.
