After returning home, Huo Nanchu couldn't wait to pick up her phone and dial Wang Bin's number.
"Brother Bin, are you busy right now? I have something I want to talk to you about..." Huo Nanchu made a phone call and got straight to the point.
However, before he could finish speaking, he was ruthlessly interrupted by the other party: "I have to go now, I'm busy here! I'll call you back later." After saying that, Wang Bin hung up the phone without saying another word.
At this moment, Wang Bin was indeed overwhelmed – he was fully focused on handling a murder case.
Now all the evidence has been collected, the truth has come to light, and the murderer has been apprehended.
Meanwhile, the victims' families were already crying uncontrollably and in unbearable grief.
Looking at the scene before him, Wang Bin felt a pang of bitterness and helplessness.
Despite having worked as a law enforcement officer for many years, he had seen all walks of life and was quite accustomed to life, death, separation, and all sorts of strange and unusual events.
But whenever I encounter such a situation, an indescribable sadness still wells up deep inside me.
...
"Boss, the families have all gone home. You should go and rest too. You've been working at the station for a whole month. Your body can't take it! It's a good thing you're not married, otherwise your wife would definitely think you're doing something bad outside! Hurry up and go home to rest!" said Xiao Li, a law enforcement officer standing beside him, with concern.
"Okay, I'll go back now. You guys keep an eye on things afterward, and make sure all the evidence is organized and handed over to the court," Wang Bin said, rubbing his temples and looking tired.
"Don't worry, boss!"
Wang Bin started the car and drove towards home.
Along the way, he turned on the car's Bluetooth and dialed Huo Nanchu's number.
"Anan, what's wrong?" Wang Bin's voice revealed a hint of fatigue.
"Brother Bin, you've been quite busy lately? You sound very tired."
"Well, I just finished a tricky case, and finally managed to find some free time," Wang Bin explained simply.
"I ran into Zhao Chunguang today. You know his wife just passed away recently. And what's more, I saw him having dinner with a woman who's five or six months pregnant!"
“What’s more, I overheard snippets of their conversation and it seems there’s more to Zhao Chunguang’s wife’s death than meets the eye. So, I think it’s necessary to mention it to you,” Huo Nanchu stated his discovery directly.
Wang Bin frowned slightly, pondered for a moment, and then said, "Nan Chu, thank you for telling me about this. However, we cannot determine whether there is really a problem based on this alone."
"Even if you have any doubts, it's too late now. No one has questioned or reported this to the police, and the person has already been cremated. I really have no way to proceed!"
"Then, could you check the call or text message records between Zhao Chunguang and that person named Yang Nini?"
"No, our police force doesn't have the authority to arbitrarily check other people's phones," Wang Bin said, indicating that he couldn't help.
"But... they even tried to murder the two children left behind by Madam Zhao. So, I'm really scared."
Having no other choice, Huo Nanchu had to reveal all the information he had learned from Huo Jinning, pretending that he had overheard it by accident.
"What?" Wang Bin couldn't help but raise his voice. "That's Zhao Chunguang's own flesh and blood. You're probably overthinking it. No matter what, he wouldn't harm his own child."
As he spoke, he lowered his voice, seemingly realizing that he had overreacted.
"Brother Bin, I'm not just imagining things. I heard them plotting to push those two kids off the building with my own ears."
"Then they would make up a story, saying that the child accidentally fell."
"After all, who would doubt that the child's biological father could do something so heinous?"
“That way, they can legitimately keep only the unborn child in Yang Nini’s womb,” Huo Nanchu explained anxiously, trying to persuade Wang Bin.
"What? Such a thing actually happened?" Wang Bin asked in disbelief, his face full of astonishment.
“I heard it with my own ears. Although there is no conclusive evidence at the moment, those are two lives lost. I simply cannot stand idly by and watch them die,” Huo Nanchu said firmly.
"Anan, I understand. I'll keep an eye on it. You don't need to get involved in this matter, lest we alert them," Wang Bin said seriously.
Although there is no conclusive evidence yet, this is a matter of great importance concerning two precious lives, and we must not take it lightly.
"Okay, I understand. Brother Bin, please take good care of yourself, get some rest, and don't overwork yourself. I'll treat you to a meal when I have time," Huo Nanchu said with concern.
"Okay, I got it. And you too, don't just focus on caring about others and forget to take care of yourself," Wang Bin replied.
After the two hung up the phone, Huo Nanchu still felt uneasy. After all, law enforcement officers couldn't directly intervene in the investigation due to a lack of evidence. If someone could report the case, then law enforcement officers would be able to legitimately carry out their investigation.
thump thump thump...
"Please come in." A deep male voice came from the room.
"Anan, is there something you need?" Huo Shan put down the book in his hand and looked up at Huo Nanchu at the door.
"Yes, I just called Wang Bin, and that's roughly the situation. Due to a lack of conclusive evidence, law enforcement officers cannot directly intervene in this matter at the moment."
"So, I suddenly remembered that you have some connections with Mrs. Zhao's father, right? Perhaps you could try to find out what they think and see if they would choose to report the case to law enforcement after learning that their daughter was wrongfully killed."
