Chapter 16 Incident

From the day I was born until I was a month old, I lived a life where I had to wake up every two hours to nurse, but that was followed by changing my diapers.

Fortunately, even though I felt a little embarrassed, it didn't affect my ability to eat my fill.

Around 7 a.m., while my mother was drinking breast milk, people started coming to visit her one after another. They would chat with her for a few minutes, and when they put down their things, they would also give her a red envelope.

"No wonder Old Wang said yesterday that this kid knows how to pick his timing. He's already received so many red envelopes this morning that he can't even count them all."

"Aunt Fang is right. No one can choose the time of a child's birth. She's already accepted red envelopes now, and she'll accept another one when the baby turns one month old. She's letting this little girl make a profit."

"That's right."

"Dr. Zhao, what brings you here?"

While Liu Linjuan was breastfeeding her child, she looked up and saw Zhao Meilan, a colleague from the same department, coming over.

"This morning when I was on my way to work, I heard the director say that Nurse Zhou had taken three days off."

They said you just gave birth in the hospital, and that's why I came to visit before work hours.

As Zhao Meilan spoke, she touched her face with her fingers. The cold fingers made her shiver, and she burst into tears.

"Wah wah wah, wah wah wah"

"Oh, oh, baby, don't cry." Seeing the child crying loudly, Sister Fang quickly picked me up and tried to comfort me.

Seeing the child crying, Zhao Meilan quickly said, "Dr. Liu, you're busy. I have to go back to work now. I'll come see you again when I have time."

"What's wrong? I just went into the hallway and heard your child crying loudly! What happened to her? Why is she crying like that?" Aunt Zhou hurriedly ran back with a lunchbox to ask.

Seeing that no one was paying attention to her, Zhao Meilan slipped away.

I cried for a long time, and then I was so tired that I fell asleep right away.

"Oh my goodness, this little girl's crying is just as loud as the boy's; it's almost like thunder!" said Sister Zhou.

"The child is asleep, you should eat first, and we can talk after you finish eating," said Sister Fang.

"good."

“Yes, little sister, eat first. We can talk about it later. I’ll go wash the diapers. Big sister, please wait here for me for half an hour. I’ll take over looking after them then.” Zhou Tao quickly said, seeing that Sister Fang’s face was long.

"It's alright, this is none of your business. You go wash the diapers first, I'll watch over things here!"

Zhou Tao was puzzled. He had seen Sister Fang just yesterday and she seemed perfectly fine. Why did she look so serious now?

I've met this Sister Fang before, but I've never seen her so serious. Has something happened that I don't know about? I need to wash the diapers right away.

While thinking, I quickly washed the diapers, and even though I washed them very fast, the diapers were still very clean.

Seeing that Zhou Tao returned in less than twenty minutes, Sister Fang sat down and asked directly:

"I remember you both work in the surgery department of the military hospital, right?"

"That's right, what's wrong, Sister Fang?" Zhou Tao asked.

"Was that doctor surnamed Zhao from earlier also from your surgery department?"

"Yes? Sister Fang, she's a college graduate who's been with me for the past two years. What's wrong, Sister Fang? Is there a problem?"

"Let Xiao Liu tell you," Sister Fang said.

Liu Linjuan then recounted what had happened after Zhao Meilan came over.

"What? No way! I have to go find her! When did our little girl offend her to make our child cry for so long? That damned Zhao Meilan! I never thought she was this kind of person. No way! She won't rest until she gets an explanation!" Zhou Tao said hurriedly as he stood up and walked out.

"Stop!" Sister Fang commanded.

"Big sister?" Zhou Tao asked, puzzled.

"sit down!"

"yes"

"I'm asking you, when did Zhao Meilan enter the hospital, where is she from, what are her medical skills like, and what kind of person is she usually?" Sister Fang asked.

"Sister, do you suspect she's a spy?" Liu Linjuan asked in a low voice.

"I don't know, I just felt something was off, that's why I asked," Sister Fang explained.

Hearing their conversation, Zhou Tao immediately sat up straight and quickly said:

"Comrade Zhao Meilan's family is local, a wealthy family. Her father owns several shops in Beicheng. Her father's name is Zhao Fugui, and her stepmother's name is Qian Guifen. She has an older brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister. However, her younger brother and sister are not born to the same mother. They own two grain shops, one grocery store, and one restaurant."

His medical skills are alright, but not as good as a girl's.

As for his personality? He's quite arrogant!

"Xiao Liu, you haven't offended her, have you?" After learning some basic information, Sister Fang asked.

Liu Linjuan thought for a moment, realizing that she hadn't offended Zhao Meilan in any way since they met, and said, "No, we don't interact much usually, just a normal comrade relationship, but..."

"But what?" Sister Fang asked hurriedly.

"This story begins when I first met her. She had just arrived at the hospital, and our director introduced us. I remember I had just returned from a mission and missed that week's meeting," she said, recalling their first meeting.

Then I heard the door open.

"Please come in."

"Dr. Liu is back?"

"Director, what brings you here? What's the matter? You could have just called me over. Why did you have to come all the way here?"

Liu Linjuan saw the department head, He Fanghao, arrive with several people. The one leading them was a young woman, presumably the new intern, and the others were likely new nurses. She quickly spoke...

"It's alright, I'm not busy right now, so I might as well take this opportunity to stretch my muscles."

Oh, by the way, let me introduce you all. This is Dr. Liu Linjuan from our department. She's a military doctor with over ten years of surgical experience and graduated from the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University.

Apart from the girl in the lead, who looked extremely surprised, everyone else looked on with admiration!

The director then introduced, "The lady standing next to me is the newly arrived Comrade Zhao Meilan. Despite her young age, she is indeed a top student who graduated from a proper medical university."

Then I saw her straighten her back proudly in an instant, as if she couldn't say anything at all.

When the director went to introduce the other people, Zhao Meilan gave him a strange look, for reasons unknown.

What the heck is going on? Are they looking down on us?

Did I offend her somehow? I don't think I even know her! Why would she be hostile towards me?

She seems like a strange person.

"From then on, this Dr. Zhao always acted superior and gave me the impression that she looked down on me."

As you know, I only have ordinary conversations with people like her. We see each other all the time, so I just say hello and that's it.

Another point is that although we belong to the same department, our focuses are still different.

Also, when they first arrived, I wasn't the one supervising their internships, so I don't know much about their personalities and how they behaved.

Liu Linjuan said to Sister Fang and Zhou Tao

"After listening to her for so long, I thought she was just being arrogant in front of us nurses."

How dare she be so arrogant in front of you? Who gave her that audacity? Does she think she's something special just because she graduated from medical school, or does she think she's invincible just because she's mentored by the department head?

Furthermore, no matter what, you are her senior and your medical skills are superior to hers. How dare she treat her senior like this? Is she not a fool?

"Everyone knows that having a good mentor in a hospital is a lifelong benefit. Why would she do this?" Zhou Tao asked, puzzled.

"I don't know, Sister Zhou. I only know her. She's usually quite nice to Dr. Cui and the others, but when she comes to me, she acts all high and mighty and looks down on me."

"Haven't you noticed anything unusual about her in other situations?" Sister Fang continued.

"No," both people answered simultaneously.

"That shouldn't be the case, right? Why would she specifically target Xiao Liu's child?" Sister Fang asked, puzzled.

"What kind of harm would be done to children?" Minister Chen asked directly as he pushed open the door.

"Wah wah wah"

"Let's talk outside later. The baby's hungry. Zhou Tao, you help Xiao Liu feed the baby," Sister Fang said, pulling Minister Chen outside.

"Okay, no problem, you go ahead with your work, ma'am!"

Minister Chen noticed that his wife had something to say to him, so he quickly put his things on the bedside table and followed her out.

Seeing the crowds outside, Sister Fang realized it wasn't a good place to talk and said directly, "Let's find somewhere else to talk first!"

Minister Chen could tell from his wife's serious expression that things were not so simple and that the problem was very serious, so he took her directly to the office of the director of the military hospital to talk.

Dean Ding was reviewing the hospital's drug usage, considering how much of these drugs he needed to buy and where to source them at the cheapest price, when he heard a knock on the door.

"Please come in."

Upon seeing that it was the logistics minister of the military region who opened the door, he asked, "Old Chen, what brings you here? Your wife is here too."

"Old Ding, can I use your office for a moment? Please step out for a second; we need to discuss some matters," Minister Chen said.

"No need, Dean Ding isn't an outsider, let him listen too! We're all family, there's nothing wrong with him listening," said Sister Fang.

"That's good," Minister Chen said.

"What's wrong? Did you two have a fight?" Dean Ding asked, puzzled.

"It's even worse than a fight between the two of us!" Sister Fang said directly.

"What? No, you two aren't getting a divorce, are you? How old are you both?"

"Besides, this doesn't make sense! Even if you want a divorce, you shouldn't be coming to me, right? Shouldn't you be going to the organization? Why are you talking in my office?" Dean Ding blurted out.

"It's not about divorce. Who told you about divorce? It's about Comrade Liu Linjuan and her child."

"What does the discomfort have to do with Xiao Liu and the newborn baby?"

How did you two manage to confuse me like this?
