Chapter 21 My Mother Had a Job Opportunity

Chapter 21 My Mother Had a Job Opportunity

After Yu Xue went back, she changed her phone number, informed Wen Feng's parents, and then slept soundly in her room until the sun went down.

She said she wanted to work, date, and make friends, but it seems she forgot all of that. The night she came back, she touched the guitar, strummed the strings a couple of times, and that was it.

Liu Xin called Yu Xue several times, but no one answered, so she called Wen Feng directly.

Liu Xin: "Xuexue, what's wrong? Are you alright?"

Wen Feng glanced back at Yu Xue's tightly closed door, walked into the courtyard, and said, "It's alright. She eats on time every day and drinks the milk we give her."

Liu Xin: "Why aren't you answering the phone? I saw the schedule you gave Yu Xue. I specifically called her when she could get her phone."

Wen Feng: "I gave her my phone, but she didn't want it. She always says she doesn't need it today."

Liu Xin felt a chill run down her spine. "Could they be planning something again? Like... last time?"

Wen Feng was also afraid. He wasn't afraid of Yu Xue getting angry with him or throwing a tantrum. He was afraid that Yu Xue would hide in the house without saying a word, give him a fake smile when she saw him, and go upstairs after dinner. Except for not locking the door, she was almost exactly the same as she had been a few years ago.

Wen Feng glanced back again to make sure Yu Xue hadn't suddenly appeared. He said, "She should be fine. I'll find a reason to check on her every hour."

There was a long silence on the other end of the phone.

Wen Feng knew there was probably something else going on. "Mom, just tell me."

Liu Xin: "Didn't you tell me before that Yu Xue wanted to resume her work? I contacted the production team of 'Planet Departure' and got Yu Xue a chance to sing the opening song, which was about a minute long."

Liu Xin paused, then said, "I didn't use the Wen family's name; I traded my own interests for theirs." She knew that the time she had gained was too short. If Wen Feng or his father had intervened, they might have been able to buy her more time.

Wen Feng said, "Yes, I will pass it on to her. She's not in a good condition to work for long periods of time right now, a minute is just fine."

Liu Xin: "One minute of preparation on stage is no less important than three minutes."

Without pausing, she immediately said, "It's okay, you can ask her first. If she doesn't want to go, or if she's not feeling well, I'll talk to the production team. We should prioritize her needs."

Wen Feng: "Okay, I'll talk to her first."

When Wen Feng went to find Yu Xue with his phone yesterday, Yu Xue stood at the door of the room, opened a social media app in front of him, saw the empty interface, exited, and then handed the phone back to him, saying, "I don't need it for now."

Wen Feng knew that she wanted to see news about Lin Yinyin.

Wen Feng also knew that Lin Yinyin had joined a film crew and didn't have time to go out and have fun.

He had told Yu Xue about it, and Yu Xue just hummed in response, but it was unclear whether she had taken it to heart.

He took the milk upstairs and knocked on the door.

"Come in," Yu Xue said sullenly.

Wen Feng walked in, and Yu Xue was sitting at the table. She turned to the side and noticed that Wen Feng's face changed from a slight smile to shock and dismay. She rarely saw him so emotionally expressive.

Wen Feng stepped forward, knelt down, put the milk aside, cupped Yu Xue's chin, turned her face to the side, and touched it.

"Hiss!" The pain seeped into her muscles, and Yu Xue frowned.

She turned around and saw that Wen Feng's hands were stained with blood. She subconsciously touched her face, felt a sharp pain, and looked back to see her hands covered in blood.

"Quick, get up, let's go to the hospital." Wen Feng didn't have time to figure out how the injury came about.

"No need." Yu Xue shook off his hand with considerable dissatisfaction. "I was making a journal and fell asleep on the table. I forgot the knife was on the table. It's nothing, just a minor injury. It'll be fine in a few days."

"It looks pretty deep." Ignoring her thoughts, Wen Feng grabbed her wrist. "Come on, let's go to the hospital and listen to the doctor."

"Get away!" Yu Xue shook him off again. "What are you doing! Get out!"

Wen Feng looked at her, at her drowsy room.

This is her usual demeanor when she's not faking a smile; she's like a rat in a burrow, unable to bear the light. She only puts on a human face when forced to come out to forage.

Wen Feng knew that if he went out now and came to find Yu Xue again at dinner time, Yu Xue would adjust her emotions and face him in a normal way, which would make him feel much more relaxed.

But Yu Xue couldn't keep holding it in any longer. She had already broken down and was far from that critical point, heading towards an increasingly uncontrollable direction.

Wen Feng squatted down and took Yu Xue's hands.

Yu Xue did not resist. She looked at her knees, lost in thought.

Looking at the surroundings, Wen Feng felt his eyes welling up with tears.

For four years, Yu Xue has been living alone in this house, her world so small and dark, without sound or light.

When I want to talk, there's no one to talk to; when I want to confide in someone, there's no one to confide in.

“Yu Xue…” Wen Feng’s voice trembled.

Yu Xue couldn't help but look up at him, and accidentally met his eyes.

She should have looked away, but she couldn't, because she thought she saw tears in Wen Feng's eyes. She wasn't sure if she was seeing things, but she wanted to see them more clearly.

"Yu Xue..." Wen Feng felt a little relieved to see that she was willing to look him in the eye, but he was also saddened because when she looked at him, he could see the bloodstain on her face. "Let's go to the hospital, okay? Just to put my mind at ease... Just go to the hospital for my sake. Or, I'll find a family doctor to take a look at you and apply some medicine, okay?"

“Okay.” Yu Xue agreed immediately. She couldn’t refuse. Looking into Wen Feng’s eyes, she couldn’t refuse anything.

Upon hearing her agree, Wen Feng immediately stood up, took out his phone, and dialed the family doctor.

Yu Xue stared at Wen Feng's back for a moment, seemingly finally waking up from her dream and regaining consciousness. She began to tidy up the knife on the table, as well as the stickers that she had torn to pieces.

"I'm sorry," Yu Xue said immediately after he hung up the phone. "I just dreamt that my mother was reading to me, and I said I wanted to copy this passage down. It was so beautifully written."

She laughed and made a clanging sound as she pushed the switch on the knife. "I started making a journal and writing things. I thought that after you came in, the three of us could read together, but after you came in, my mother left. I was so sad at the time, I couldn't process it."

She suddenly broke down, throwing the knife aside and trying hard to control her expression, but she couldn't. Her facial muscles were only controlled by her emotions, not by her will. "I don't know when I'll see my mother again. I wish I hadn't let you in just now."

Wen Feng put the knife away and put it in his pocket. He knelt down again, took her hand, and opened his mouth, but he really didn't know what to say.

He didn't know whether to maintain this fictitious "mother" or shatter this illusion.

Perhaps he was wrong from the moment he agreed to let Yu Xue be discharged from the hospital.

"Yu Xue, Yu Xue." He wanted to wipe away her tears, but was afraid of touching her wound. "Look, your face is injured, and you have a bad memory, you always forget to apply medicine. You can't go on without someone to take care of you. Why don't you move into my room and stay there?"

“Wen Feng.” Yu Xue looked at him and said seriously, “But my mother is here. She only comes here and doesn’t go anywhere else. She said she doesn’t love Yu Xue who traveled to that world. She said she only loves her own daughter and only loves me, so she tried to travel here to find me.”

Yu Xue: "But she can only stay in my room. She came here for me, how can I run away?"

Yu Xue: "Wen Feng, I can't abandon my mother."

Yu Xue turned her head away to wipe her tears, and Wen Feng also turned his head away and took a deep breath.

Yu Xue said, "Wen Feng, do you know? I told my mother that I could die and go back to that world so I could be with her."

Yu Xue: "But my mom said... my mom said that death is very painful, extremely painful, and she hopes I will never have to go through it. She hopes I can live a good life in this world. Wen Feng, she is the person who loves me most in this world... What mother doesn't love her own child..."

Wen Feng hugged her, like hugging a mindless pillow, tightly wrapping her in his arms and letting her sink into it.

Wen Feng: "Xuexue, I love you too, I love you so much. I don't want you to leave... Let's go see a doctor, okay? Maybe the doctor can help... so you and Mom can stay together."

Yu Xue: "What if the doctor wanted to kill my mother? I know that doctors would think it's schizophrenia and that they would kill another personality, right? But my mother is not another personality of mine, she really is my mother."

"No, Yu Xue." Wen Feng stroked her hair and assured her, "We'll find several doctors, there will definitely be professional ones. They'll know you're telling the truth and will keep you and Mom. If they want to kill either of them, we won't see them, we'll just turn around and leave."

"Really?" Yu Xue suddenly leaned her whole body against his shoulder and whispered in his ear, "Okay, you are the person I love most in this world. I believe you, and I will listen to you."

Wen Feng felt a slight jolt in his heart. After a moment, he realized that Yu Xue was currently delirious and might be mistaking him for Liu Xin again.

Wen Feng carried Yu Xue to his room and laid her on the bed. The doctor arrived soon after.

After getting married, Wen Feng hired a female doctor because Yu Xue was frequently ill and needed to be treated almost every month.

Once, Yu Xue was so tired that she closed her eyes when she went downstairs and fell down, hitting the back of her thigh. Luckily, there was a female doctor there, otherwise everyone in the room would have been at a loss.

The doctor examined the wound carefully. "The bleeding has stopped. It's not deep, just a rather long cut. Apply the medicine properly and let it rest. Avoid getting it wet and exposed to wind recently. Change the dressing once a day. Also, take this medicine three times a day, two pills each time, remember?"

She patted Yu Xue's hand and said, "From now on, when you wash your face every day, just wet a towel and wipe your face lightly. Be careful not to get water in your face. Don't worry, it won't leave a scar. Just be careful next time."

Yu Xue nodded.

The ceiling light was shining, and she was fully awake. She couldn't quite remember what she had just done, but she remembered that her mother had come, and Wen Feng seemed to have come too, and then the two of them had started arguing.

I don't remember.
