Chapter 41 Yu Xue is his pillar. Could I be Chen Wanxi's daughter...?
Wen Feng had promised to help his mother move after get off work today, so he finished everything in advance and left work an hour early.
Just as I was about to go downstairs, Liu Xin sent me a message saying that she was very busy today and had work to do, and that tomorrow was the weekend, so she would move tomorrow.
He hesitated for a moment, then decided to go back. His work was finished anyway, and there was no point in staying any longer. He remembered that Yu Xue was scheduled for counseling today, so he figured he might go back early to check on her and talk to her if she was in a bad mood.
As he walked, he took out his phone, intending to call her and ask if she wanted him to pick her up for dinner.
He had his eye on a Chinese restaurant, and he felt that Yu Xue would definitely like it.
As soon as I stepped out of the company gate, I saw a familiar figure.
She was dressed appropriately, but in the sub-zero temperatures of the north, it was still too thin.
Wen Feng walked quickly over, taking off his coat as he went, intending to wrap it around her, but she brushed him off.
She opened her arms, and Wen Feng realized that she was wearing pajamas under her coat.
He took her hand and said, "Get in the car, it's warm inside."
He noticed that her eyes were red, clearly she had just been crying.
"What's wrong?" Wen Feng cupped her face in his hands. "You went to a therapist's this afternoon? What did the doctor say?"
Yu Xue let out a breath and said nonchalantly, "It's nothing, just... chatting about everyday family matters."
Wen Feng pushed her, trying to get her into the car, but she wouldn't budge. He didn't dare to use force, afraid she would fall, and he didn't dare to hug her, afraid she would be too sensitive and upset.
Yu Xue touched her face to make sure there were no tears. She looked up at Wen Feng's chin and said, "Let's walk back. Walk with me for a bit. It's not far... I want to see how difficult it really is to get home."
She wasn't sure what she was saying. She felt like her mind was a jumble of yarn, completely blank. She had lost her logic and couldn't express her thoughts. She could only utter these vague words, hoping that Wen Feng would understand her emotions.
"Wait a minute." Wen Feng pulled her towards the office, but Yu Xue remained motionless, standing there stiffly.
Her hands were like solid icicles; Wen Feng suspected that she didn't not want to leave, but was frozen in place.
Yu Xue: "I'm not going."
Wen Feng raised his voice a little, "I'll go get you a blanket, wrap yourself in it, you'll get frostbite like this."
Yu Xue shook her head desperately, "I won't go, I'll just wait here, I'll wait for you, I'll wait for you to come home!"
Everyone around her was looking over, but she didn't notice; she just kept her head down and cried.
Wen Feng hesitated for a moment, then strode around and headed towards his office. He got out of the elevator, ran into the office, grabbed a blanket, and quickly went downstairs.
Three minutes later, when he went down, Yu Xue was still standing in the same spot, not moving an inch.
He began to wonder, how long had Yu Xue been waiting here? Had she been waiting here ever since her treatment ended?
He wrapped his arms around Yu Xue, holding her close, hoping that the warmth of his body could reach her.
He put his arm around Yu Xue and went to the coffee shop next door to buy her a hot coffee so she could hold it to warm her hands.
He couldn't care less about Yu Xue's feelings; all he could think about was which way to get home faster. It would take almost forty minutes to walk home from here, and he kept thinking about which shortcuts were easier to take.
"There's a women's clothing store up ahead, shall I go buy you a down jacket? You're so cold." Wen Feng pressed his cheek against hers, trying to pass on warmth to her.
Yu Xue nodded.
Wen Feng stepped up three steps, chose the thickest down jacket, and rushed out to wrap it around Yu Xue. The shop assistant chased after him, and only then did he turn around, apologizing as he paid.
Yu Xue looked at him and suddenly felt like crying again.
When he turned around, Yu Xue took his hand and held it tightly.
Wen Feng let her lead him, and he deliberately slowed down, following her pace, walking along the road, and walking and walking, under the warm streetlights and under a row of withered trees, they leaned against each other.
Yu Xue suddenly spoke up: "I think this world is a beautiful place."
Wen Feng was surprised. He didn't expect Yu Xue to say that so suddenly. It was clearly a nice thing to say, so why did he feel so sad?
Wen Feng lowered his head, trying to see her expression, but she also lowered her head, so he couldn't see it. He asked, "Why do you say that?"
“Because…” Yu Xue looked at her feet, speechless.
She didn't know, and she wanted to believe that the world was a beautiful place.
She pondered for a long time, and just as her eyes were filling with tears again, she felt a coolness on the top of her head. She looked up and a white snowflake fell down, quickly landing in her eyes. She blinked reflexively, and all the snowflakes took this opportunity to fall, gently hitting her face.
Her eyes were feeling better, and when she opened them again, under the orange light, she saw a dense mass of white.
She reached out and caught it. The snowflakes stayed on her hand for a long time without melting. Just as she was about to take a closer look, everything in her palm was swallowed up by her body heat.
She put her hands back in her pockets and replied as she walked away, "Because strange and wonderful things often fall from the sky."
Wen Feng didn't reply, but he also reached out his hand to try and catch the snowflakes.
Yu Xue continued walking forward and said, "Wen Feng, I... may not have a mother anymore in the future."
Wen Feng turned his head to look at her.
Yu Xue wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes. "I don't remember what the doctor said... After my treatment, I lay in bed, wanting to take a nap. In my dream, I saw my mother lying peacefully in the hospital bed. I sat next to her, and no matter how I nudged her... she wouldn't wake up."
She stopped abruptly, her legs unable to support her weight. She crouched down shakily, feigning weakness like an ostrich curling up in fear. "She's gone, she's gone..."
She used to have two worlds, but now, she only has one.
She reached out her hand again, but it stopped in mid-air.
Wen Feng quickly stepped forward, reached out and held her hand with both of his. He also squatted down, hesitated for a while, and then decided to free one hand to try to hug her.
He said, "I came across a claim before, I don't know if it's true or not, but I believe it."
His hand rested on Yu Xue's forearm, which was wrapped around her knees. "A person is made up of individual particles. When a person dies, these particles will disperse and return to the universe, wandering in the vast galaxy. After thousands or tens of thousands of years, these particles will have the opportunity to meet again and form a combination that is highly similar to what they were before."
His head pressed against Yu Xue's head. "Mom will come back, and we will leave too. We will come back even after thousands of years. Maybe you will fall in love with a group that is very similar to me, and I will still fall in love with a group like you."
Yu Xue slightly raised her chin, her eyes closed, her body so heavy she felt like she was about to fall over.
Wen Feng reacted quickly, catching her, holding her in his arms, and standing up.
Yu Xue struggled to get down, but Wen Feng let go of her.
But when she came down, she regretted it.
She turned her head, and a gust of wind made her shiver with cold from the tears on her face. She looked into Wen Feng's eyes, at his furrowed brows, at his pursed lips, and at the faint tears in his eyes.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and stood on tiptoe.
Wen Feng leaned down so that Yu Xue could touch his nose.
She closed her eyes, earnestly feeling this "truth." She held on, hugged, and pressed herself against him. With a slight tilt of her head, she could kiss her lover's lips.
Yu Xue: "Wen Feng, in my world, you're all that's left."
Wen Feng put his arm around her waist and said, "Yu Xue, you are the turning point in my world."
"Hmm?" Yu Xue turned her head, trying to hear more clearly. She leaned against his shoulder, her lips almost kissing his cheek.
Wen Feng leaned down slightly to make it easier for Yu Xue to lean against him.
Wen Feng: "Yu Xue, you are the turning point in my world. Before I met you, I always thought that life was just like this, and I wouldn't leave halfway through, but I never thought about living forever. If I hadn't met you, I might have just studied, worked, and rested day after day. I didn't have that much love, I didn't have that much to say, and I once thought that I couldn't spend my life with someone. I couldn't accept someone's negative emotions, nor could I provide her with positive emotions. I wouldn't love, and I didn't want to love."
He opened his eyes and looked at Yu Xue's long eyelashes, which were covered with a few specks of white snow. "But falling in love with you has changed everything. I have suddenly developed a lot of love. I have learned to say a lot of things, and I have learned how to cherish you and respect you. I look forward to our time together every day. I look forward to you. I love you so much."
He stroked Yu Xue's back, wanting to touch her cheek and wipe away her tears for the umpteenth time.
But he didn't move; if he had, the embrace would have been unstable.
He said, "Before I met you, I felt that there was no need for my life to end. After I met you, I suddenly felt that my life was tied to yours. If you decide to leave like this, then I will stay with you."
"Yu Xue, you are my pillar." After he finished speaking, he turned his face and kissed Yu Xue's forehead.
The two hugged for a long time on the road, and Yu Xue didn't seem to want to get up.
But Wen Feng felt he should get up. He sensed that Yu Xue was very cold, and she was sure she would get sick if she went back.
He released Yu Xue, took her hand, and said softly, "Let's go, shall we keep going? Let's go home, okay?"
He led Yu Xue across the street at a brisk pace.
Yu Xue: "Wen Feng, don't you think that the other world is fake?"
Wen Feng unconsciously slowed his pace. He was a little afraid of being asked these questions, and he hadn't figured out how to answer them.
He turned to look at Yu Xue.
He wanted to say that it might be true. He couldn't bear to shatter Yu Xue's dream.
However, he also felt that this was irresponsible towards Yu Xue's life.
She finally managed to come out; don't let him make her turn back down.
Yu Xue knew he was having a hard time answering, so she took the initiative and said, "The doctor told me something today: what you can hold onto firmly is what's real..."
She took a deep breath, but still couldn't bring herself to say it.
She closed her eyes, gritted her teeth, and forced herself to say, "From the day I woke up four years ago, I have never held my mother's hand. But... but... but Chen Wanxi's ringtone is still ringing in my ears, and I actually ate that awful meal at my grandmother's house..."
She swallowed and exhaled the air she had been holding in.
She said, "Do you think I might be Chen Wanxi's daughter...?"
Once you say it once, it's much easier the second time.
She raised her voice a notch, "Do you think I might be Chen Wanxi's daughter?"
