The people next to the short-haired woman, like everyone else, had a faint white mist emanating from their bodies.
The group of people appeared to be members of an action team, chatting and laughing as they walked down the corridor.
Lu Ning thought for a moment and then walked over to the group.
However, he stopped abruptly just as he took his first step.
Because white mist gradually appeared inside the short-haired woman's body.
The white mist inside her body became exactly the same as everyone else's.
Lu Ning stared intently at the short-haired woman.
Perhaps it was Lu Ning's gaze that drew their attention, for the group of people who were chatting and laughing all turned to look at Lu Ning.
One of the slightly plump, brown-haired middle-aged women sized up Lu Ning and said, "Who are you? I don't think I've seen you before?"
Lu Ning calmly said, "I am Lu Ning, a member of the investigation team. I just arrived at Base City 121 today. This is my identification."
The middle-aged woman took the identification and glanced at it, confirming Lu Ning's identity. Then, she asked with some surprise, "Investigation team? What's wrong with our base city? Why is the Federal Headquarters sending an investigation team here?"
Lu Ning spoke up, "Did you know that the Federal Headquarters received a distress signal from your base city?"
Everyone was somewhat surprised.
The middle-aged woman frowned: "The base city has sent out a distress signal? How is that possible? Although there are disease outbreaks in our base city, the situation is relatively stable. There's no need for us to send out a distress signal, is there?"
Lu Ning's gaze swept over the others, especially the short-haired woman.
The short-haired woman reacted the same way as everyone else, with a hint of surprise.
Lu Ning nodded and said, "That's what your bureau chief said too, but the distress signal we received wasn't fake. That's why we sent an investigation team here."
The middle-aged woman nodded and said, "I understand. I am Karen, the captain of the First Action Team. If you need any help, please contact me."
Lu Ning nodded and said calmly, "Okay, in that case, let's add each other's contact information."
"OK."
After exchanging contact information, Lu Ning looked at the others and said, "Let's exchange too."
The other team members didn't think anything was wrong either, and they all swapped with Lu Ning.
Lu Ning also knew the name of the short-haired woman.
Ke Qing.
After exchanging contact information, Lu Ning said goodbye to Karen and the others, and turned to continue his investigation.
As darkness fell, Lu Ning and Nan Yu met at the elevator entrance on the second floor.
Nan Yu didn't directly ask about everyone's gains, but instead gave them a wink and said, "Let's find a place to stay first."
Everyone nodded.
They could all see that there was a problem with this base city, and a significant one at that.
Even the headquarters was no exception; after all, even Li Fu, the director of the Mist Bureau, said he didn't know that the Azure Mist Saint had been there.
Whether it was intentional concealment or simply forgotten, something is amiss.
If it's the former, that's fine; but if it's the latter, it's even worse. It could make everyone forget the memory of a saint's visit, which shows how dangerous that would be.
Nan Yu said, "Let's tell Li Fu first before we leave."
The group then went to the director's office.
It was Wang Bingxin who opened the door.
Seeing the group approach, Li Fu smiled and stood up to greet them: "Captain Nan, how is it? Everything should be normal at our station, right?"
Nan Yu smiled and nodded: "We haven't found anything yet. We plan to rest first and then gradually begin our investigation in the base city."
Upon hearing this, Li Fu quickly replied, "Then I will prepare rooms for you."
Nan Yu waved his hand and declined, saying, "No need to trouble you, we can find a place to stay ourselves."
Li Fu warmly expressed that as the local Fog Bureau, they should do their duty as hosts.
However, Nan Yu still resolutely refused.
Seeing that Nan Yu refused firmly, Li Fu smiled knowingly and said, "I can understand Captain Nan's caution. After all, it's right for him not to trust us during the investigation. Then I won't make any arrangements."
Nan Yu nodded: "Then we'll take our leave now."
After saying goodbye to Li Fu, the group left the headquarters.
…………
They eventually found a hotel not too far from the headquarters of the Bureau of the Mist.
After checking in, Nan Yu said, "Come to my room first, let's talk about the situation."
Everyone nodded and followed Nan Yu to his room.
After entering Nan Yu's room, some people found chairs to sit down, some leaned against the wall, and some simply sat down on the edge of the bed.
Nan Yu winked at Dennis and Cheng Yue.
The two used their abilities to begin surveying their surroundings.
After a short while, Dennis spoke up: "Everything is normal."
Cheng Yue also said, "No one is eavesdropping."
Nan Yu nodded, then asked, "So? Did you find anything?"
The group exchanged glances, and Shirley shook her head: "To be honest, if it weren't for the people at headquarters who didn't even know that Saint Qinglan had come, I would have thought that this base city was quite normal."
Shirley's words were met with their agreement, and they all nodded in agreement.
"I just asked a lot of people, but none of them had any useful clues. They all knew nothing."
Nan Yu was somewhat disappointed and looked at Cheng Yue and Dennis: "You two have strong investigative abilities, did you find anything?"
Cheng Yue shook his head and said, "I just used sound waves to conduct a simple investigation at headquarters and didn't find anything unusual. Headquarters seems to be quite normal."
Dennis frowned and said, "I don't know why, but ever since I entered the base city, I've felt something's not right. How should I put it... I'm a little uneasy. It's like I'm in a fog."
