Chapter 288 The Thousand-Eyed Sacrifice and the Damaged Altar

The dead tumor quickly turned into mucus that spread across the bottom of the circular pit.

This also revealed a large amount of pale crystals within.

Lu Ning was somewhat surprised to discover that these crystals originally came from inside the tumor.

So, does that mean the previous circular crater would have turned into a tumor?

However, once Lu Ning removes those pale crystals, the tumor probably won't regenerate.

Lu Ning jumped down into the pit and picked up the pale crystals.

He counted them, and they were about four or five times more than last time.

Lu Ning then left the circular pit with the pale crystal.

Seeing that the fighting had stopped, An Lan and the others had already moved closer.

When Lu Ning left the circular pit, Ya En and the others had already arrived at the edge of it.

Arn asked in surprise, "It was resolved so quickly?"

Osiris couldn't help but say, "Lu Ning, you're really strong. You're only at the seventh rank, yet you were able to kill a Saint-level monster so easily."

Even Osiris would probably need to wield a Horcrux and go all out to achieve this.

However, Osiris has been a saint for many years and can be considered a veteran saint.

Lu Ning is only at the seventh level now.

Lu Ning calmly said, "The monster's most troublesome ability is mental interference; its other abilities aren't that strong."

Steve's lips twitched slightly: "...Only you would think that way."

“Yeah, even if he’s not considered strong, he’s still a Saint,” Jerry chimed in.

Afterwards, Lu Ning took out the pale crystals and had An Lan keep them along with the previous ones.

The resources obtained during the exploration of the fog will be distributed among everyone once we leave.

This is the same as before in Fog 233.

The group then continued on their way.

After traveling another ten kilometers or so, they encountered a new monster.

It was a translucent, pale soul form.

This spirit was in human form and held chains shrouded in pale mist.

The chains struck the ground with a crisp sound.

This pale soul wandered alone on the pale earth, and the spiritual fluctuations it emitted actually reached a level close to that of a saint.

Upon seeing Lu Ning and his group, the pale soul suddenly vanished, disappearing into the space.

When the pale soul reappeared, it was already behind Lu Ning.

Its chains seemed to pierce through the void, shooting towards Lu Ning's neck.

Lu Ning remained expressionless, and with a swift movement, dodged the attack of the chains.

Then, Lu Ning swept the crimson sword in his hand toward the pale soul.

To Lu Ning's surprise, his crimson sword seemed to pass through the void when it swept across the pale soul.

There was no sense of impact whatsoever!

The pale soul seemed completely unharmed, and the chains in its hand swung towards Lu Ning once more.

Lu Ning raised an eyebrow slightly, took a few steps back, and dodged the chain attack.

The next moment, a golden fireball landed on the pale soul body.

A roaring sound rang out, and the surrounding temperature suddenly rose.

The soul seemed to be set ablaze, letting out a scream before dissipating into the air.

As the pale soul disappeared, a translucent pale crystal appeared inside it.

Inside the crystal was a distorted human face, writhing within it as if screaming.

An Lan raised an eyebrow, her expression grave, and said, "This soul seems to be immune to physical attacks, but it is normal to be attacked by elemental abilities."

Osiris said thoughtfully, "The elemental attack might have been stronger. I didn't use too much power just now. Normally, a monster or a diseased being close to the Saint level shouldn't die instantly."

An Lan nodded slightly, seemingly lost in thought.

Steve couldn't help but grin, and said with a troubled expression, "Wouldn't these kinds of monsters be a real problem for us who use our fists?"

Physics-based ability users are completely helpless against this kind of monster.

An Lan then picked up the pale crystal from the ground.

He examined it and said, "It's different from the crystals in the circular pit before; it might involve the power of the soul."

An Lan took out her instrument and tested it, discovering that it appeared to be a single-use hazardous material.

It can be activated through mental power.

Once activated, the crystal releases an invisible shriek that can affect the awakened person's thoughts and mental strength.

The intensity of this shriek, if it were to encounter an eighth-tier or lower Awakened being, might very well result in death.

It also seems to have some effect on Saint-level Awakeners who are not good at soul power.

"It can almost be considered a high-risk, single-use hazardous material," An Lan nodded.

After packing their belongings, the group continued deeper into the area.

After that, they spent two days without encountering any new monsters, but they did occasionally run into the pale souls and eyeball stone golems they had encountered before.

Not every death of that pale soul results in a high-risk, one-time-use dangerous item.

There will be roughly one in three.

As for the stone golem, it doesn't seem to have anything good about it.

They also encountered some in the circular pits; some contained tumor-like monsters, while others were covered in silvery slime.

Each of those tumor-like monsters had reached the Saint level and possessed considerable strength.

Fortunately, having learned from the first experience, Lu Ning went up by himself each time, chopped the fleshy monsters into mincemeat, and then picked out the pale crystals.

In addition, spatial rifts appear from time to time.

Just like the spatial rift that swallowed Lingchuan before.
