Chapter 4 More Than Two Thousand Years

Inside another metal room.

Lin Xiao escorted Lu Ning through the door and walked in. Three squads of soldiers were waiting at the entrance.

The room was dimly lit and contained only a long table.

Three people were sitting on one side of the long table.

In the center is an elderly man wearing a black uniform.

He had short, gray hair, a wrinkled face, and deep, dark eyes.

There was a man on each side, the one on the left being a red-haired youth with equally crimson pupils.

He sat casually in his chair, toying with a ball of flame in his hand.

The flames seemed like sprites, weaving through his fingertips.

On the right is a middle-aged man who looks quite ordinary.

He sat upright, his posture ramrod straight.

When Lu Ning and Lin Xiao came in, all three of them looked over at the same time.

All eyes immediately fell on Lu Ning.

Lin Xiao pointed to a chair on the other side of the long table: "Sit here!"

Lu Ning took his seat, and Lin Xiao stood to his side and slightly behind him to prevent him from suddenly attacking someone.

Lu Ning stared intently at the flame in the red-haired youth's hand, his eyes filled with curiosity.

The room was quiet.

Gradually, under Lu Ning's gaze, the red-haired youth shifted his sitting posture uncomfortably, let out a cold snort, and extinguished the flame in his hand.

Lu Ning looked away with a regretful expression, then sat there in a daze.

After years shrouded in mist, Lu Ning had long since become numb and developed the habit of giving up thinking.

The three of them were taken aback when they saw Lu Ning start to space out.

After a moment of silence, the elderly man in the middle spoke first: "Hello, I am Wang Anming, the director of the Mist Affairs Management Bureau of Base City No. 116. May I ask your name?"

Lu Ning snapped out of her daze: "My name is Lu Ning."

"Mr. Lu Ning, which base city are you from? There is no information about you in Base City 116."

Wang Anming, Lin Xiao, and the others all stared intently at Lu Ning.

Lu Ning asked, somewhat puzzled, "Your organization is really strange. Why is it called Base City? And why does it have a number? Is it some kind of setting from a science fiction movie?"

Lu Ning's words caused the others to frown slightly.

The red-haired youth clicked his tongue and said, "What else should we call it if not Base City? You're a suspect now! You have no right to ask questions. All you have to do is answer them honestly!"

Lu Ning said "Oh" and then said, "I'm from Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province. Um... according to you, it's the No. 1 base city in Zhejiang Province?"

Lu Ning's answer made the four of them frown even more.

The red-haired youth slammed his hand on the table and stood up.

He braced himself on the table with both hands, leaning slightly forward to put pressure on Lu Ning, and slowly said, "Don't try to play tricks on us! We've encountered plenty of suspects like you! What is Hangzhou? What is a province?! Did you invent those?"

Compared to the red-haired youth's irritability, Wang Anming's expression was calm, but his eyes looked at Lu Ning with a strange look as he said, "As far as I know, Hangzhou City in Zhejiang Province was a civilized city two thousand years ago. After the establishment of the Earth Federation, human settlements were transformed into base cities, and the city names from before the Mist Era were no longer used."

He paused, staring intently at Lu Ning, and asked, "Mr. Lu Ning, is your ancestral home in Hangzhou?"

He then noticed that Lu Ning's expression was somewhat blank, and she did not answer his question.

The red-haired youth was about to continue applying pressure when Wang Anming patted him, signaling him to be quiet.

"Mr. Lu Ning?"

Lu Ning snapped out of his daze, his breathing rapid, and his eyes seemed to hold a hint of disbelief.

His body trembled, his hands pressed firmly on the long table, staring intently at Wang Anming: "...What did you say? Two thousand years ago? What year is it now??"

Wang Anming frowned, then said, "Misty Calendar 2014."

"The Mist Calendar?! What is the Mist Calendar?!" Lu Ning's voice was low and trembling, seemingly suppressing anger and madness.

The red-haired youth and the middle-aged man beside him immediately frowned and looked at Lu Ning warily.

Wang Anming remained calm, seemingly unaware of Lu Ning's unusual behavior, and explained, "After the fog descended, humanity established the Human Federation before the collapse of order, using the time of the fog's descent as the first year to establish a new calendar."

Bang!!!

A loud bang echoed in the room.

Lu Ning slammed his fists heavily on the long table, and blood flowed from his hands.

He stared intently at Wang Anming and growled, "Impossible! You're lying!"

Flames burned around the red-haired youth, and a fireball the size of a soccer ball appeared in his hand.

Lin Xiao's body swelled up again, like a small giant, his hand transforming into a long sword, tinged with crimson.

The expressionless middle-aged man's skin had turned dark, with a metallic sheen, and his body was tense as well.

The three men watched Lu Ning warily, as if he might riot at any moment.

Lu Ning paid no attention to the three of them; bloodshot veins appeared in his eyes.

He couldn't believe the so-called Mysterious Calendar.

If that's true, then he must have been in that white mist for over two thousand years!

What about his family?

Where are his parents?!

His breathing was rapid, and his body trembled slightly.

at the same time.

The white mist that had been flowing across the entire Earth seemed to freeze for a moment.

This moment was so subtle that even the fortress at the edge of the mist couldn't detect anything amiss.

Inside the metal room.

The atmosphere was tense for a moment. Wang Anming spoke in as gentle a voice as possible, soothingly saying, "Mr. Lu Ning, please don't get agitated. Perhaps we can have a good talk."

Lu Ning turned to look at Wang Anming and said, "I want to go outside and take a look!"

Wang Anming smiled and said, "Of course, no problem! But your background is mysterious, and we need to investigate thoroughly to ensure you are not in danger before we can release you. So we hope you can cooperate with our work now."
