Jeff led the way in his pickup truck, while Lin Xiao, along with Lu Ning and Qiu Yuelin, followed behind in their car.
As for Tyrone, he did not follow.
“You can’t expect a disabled person to run around with you, and I’m not a member of the action team anymore! I’d rather stay here, have a few drinks, and wait for your good news.”
This is Tyrone's own statement.
After following Jeff's car for a while, Qiu Yuelin looked around with some confusion: "Isn't this already in District Six?"
Lin Xiao nodded slightly: "Yes, it's the sixth district."
"Should we notify the Fog Bureau's action team in this area?" Qiu Yuelin asked.
"No need. We'll just let them know when we really need their help."
"Oh well."
However, Jeff didn't stop. He led Lin Xiao and the others almost across the entire base city to the other side of the base city.
The pickup truck eventually stopped outside a secluded old residential area, and Jeff got out of the vehicle.
Lin Xiao, along with Lu Ning and Qiu Yuelin, got out of the car.
The residential area is not well managed; all kinds of garbage are everywhere, and some homeless people dressed in tattered clothes are lying on the ground sleeping.
Not far from these homeless people, there were some stinking ditches.
Qiu Yuelin frowned and said, "The environment here is terrible."
Jeff walked over, grinning. "Little girl, this is the slums. You probably haven't seen this before, have you? There are always some pitiful people in the base city. Look at those guys lying on the ground. They've all become homeless for various reasons. It's not even a question of whether they can survive this winter. If any disease outbreak occurs, it will be their end."
Qiu Yuelin glanced at the homeless man with a hint of sympathy in her eyes, then looked at Lin Xiao: "Captain, why doesn't the Federation help these people?"
Lin Xiao shrugged and said, "The reasons are complicated, but some homeless people don't deserve sympathy. Many of them may have committed crimes."
Jeff grinned: "Captain Lin is right. A young girl like you, if she came here at night, hehe..."
Qiu Yuelin frowned upon hearing Jeff's laughter.
Lin Xiao looked at Jeff and said, "Alright, tell me what you know? Where is Zhu Jianyi?"
Upon hearing this, Jeff rubbed his hands together and said, "Captain Lin, as you know, people like us all have a few men under our command. A few of my men came here on business and happened to see Zhu Jianyi. Isn't that a coincidence?"
When did this happen?
"Just last night!"
Lin Xiao's eyes lit up: "Is he passing through or staying here?"
“Hey, my men are all quick-witted young men. They notified me the moment they spotted Zhu Jianyi, and then followed him to his residence. Don’t worry, Captain Lin, I personally confirmed it, it’s definitely the right place.”
"Then lead the way!"
"Alright! This way, please, all of you!"
Jeff quickly stepped forward, bending over to lead the way.
They entered the residential area, where the streets were narrow and there was more garbage than it appeared from the outside. All kinds of garbage were piled together, emitting a foul stench.
There were few pedestrians on the street, and those who did appear had blank expressions, wore tattered clothes, and smelled strange.
Qiu Yuelin frowned repeatedly as she looked at them: "Living here, aren't they worried that the mental stress caused by the environmental problems will lead to illness?"
Jeff scoffed, "Little girl, they're already struggling to survive. The disease can't be any worse than what they're in now."
Just then, Lu Ning, who had been silent until now, spoke up: "Of the five pedestrians we saw, three of them should be close to developing the disease."
Jeff's smile vanished abruptly.
He looked blankly at the taciturn Lu Ning and chuckled dryly, "This officer is really joking."
Lin Xiao raised an eyebrow and looked at Lu Ning: "Which ones?"
"The woman dressed very provocatively, the very thin child with many injuries, and the man with only one hand."
Upon hearing this, Qiu Yuelin looked shocked: "Three out of five? That's too exaggerated!"
Jeff looked at the serious Lin Xiao with a bewildered expression, then at Qiu Yuelin, his eyes wide: "...No, are you guys joking this seriously?"
Lin Xiao smiled at Jeff: "Buddy, don't worry about the details, just keep leading the way."
Jeff swallowed hard and nodded silently. "Oh, okay."
He led the way, and Lin Xiao looked at Lu Ning and asked, "How serious is the situation for those three?"
Lu Ning thought for a moment and said, "It's slightly better than Tyron's situation."
Jeff, who was walking ahead, stumbled and had to hold onto the dirty wall to steady himself.
Qiu Yuelin glanced at him and said, "Then it shouldn't be at the point where it's about to become diseased, right?"
"Hmm." Lu Ning nodded and said, "I doubt they'll have a chance to develop the disease."
Qiu Yuelin asked, somewhat puzzled, "Why?"
Lin Xiao was taken aback, then smiled bitterly: "That's true. Given the living conditions here, they might die from the disease before it even manifests. And if even one of them develops the disease, who knows how many of the surrounding residents will die."
Qiu Yuelin fell silent and said nothing more.
Lin Xiao paused for a moment, then said, "However, I will mention this to the branch in this district and ask them to come here and do a cleanup. If multiple infected individuals appear at the same time, the situation will not be good."
After that, the group remained silent.
Jeff led the three of them through a series of alleys until they finally arrived at a seemingly ordinary apartment building.
He turned to Lin Xiao and the other two and said, "Captain Lin, Zhu Jianyi lives here."
Lin Xiao glanced at the residential building and asked, "You found his trail yesterday, are you sure he didn't run away?"
Jeff grinned and said, "Don't worry, my men are keeping an eye on things here. If Zhu Jianyi really leaves, they'll notify me immediately. Since they haven't notified me yet, he's definitely still hiding here!"
Hearing this, Lin Xiao nodded.
Jeff then led the way and pushed open the half-closed iron gate of the apartment building.
The space inside the iron gate was dark, with only a rather dilapidated-looking staircase, and the space under the staircase was also piled with garbage.
Jeff whispered, "He's on the fourth floor!"
He led the way up the stairs.
Each floor has two households, with rusty doors and tightly closed rooms.
Soon, they arrived at the fourth floor.
Jeff pointed to the doorway on the left and said, "Zhu Jianyi is in here!"
Qiu Yuelin glanced around, somewhat puzzled, and asked, "Jeff, didn't you say your men were keeping an eye on things? Where are your men?"
Upon hearing this, Jeff paused, a moment of confusion crossing his face: "My subordinates? What subordinates? I don't have any subordinates?"
