I ran back to Xia Yu's place and stood in the wide-open doorway, trying hard to suppress the anger rising in my chest.
The house is a complete mess! The house is a complete mess!
Newspapers were blown all over the floor by the wind, a layer of dust floated on the once clean floor, and the mop lay overturned on the side of the kitchen... Popcorn was also scattered from the dining table all the way to the floor, and was now rolling around intermittently with the wind blowing in from the window.
"Hua Hong!"
"exist!"
"Is this what you kept telling me was 'nothing' all the way here? Open your eyes and take a good look. This is what you call 'nothing'? 'Nothing'?" I forced out each word through gritted teeth.
"Huh? That's strange. It wasn't like this before I came out. It was quite tidy. How come it looks like it's been burgled?" Red Hair looked at the room with surprise, and said to me with an innocent and ignorant expression.
Seeing him like that made me even angrier, and my anger flared up even more. I gave Red Hair a hard shove on the back, and before he could react, he stumbled and staggered into the house.
"Go inside, you never know when a thief might actually break in! If anything's stolen, I'll give you to Xia Yu as compensation!"
"Xia Xiang, don't get angry yet. Let's go inside and see what's going on," Zhang Peng said calmly from the side.
I glared at the redhead standing in the middle of the hall, pointing at his feet and saying fiercely, "Shoes! Take those tattered shoes off right now! Isn't this place dirty enough already?"
Upon hearing this, Red Hair quickly reached for his Nike strap. I checked my watch and counted the time for him; the kid was quite efficient, the whole process took less than six seconds.
Zhang Peng continued to chuckle, as if even if the sky were to fall, he would be unaffected.
I nudged him gently with my shoulder and asked, "Why are you so happy? Did you eat honey, or is your mouth twitching? My dear little aunt, stop hugging those flowers and come with me to get checked out."
Zhang Peng spat at me and went inside, heading straight for the kitchen. A moment later, I heard him say from inside, "You two go ahead and do your work. I'll see what I can use for flower arranging."
When I heard that, I almost fainted!
Red Hair walked around the room and came out, standing three or four steps away from me. He said, "I checked, nothing's missing. Everything in the room is fine. I guess the window wasn't closed and the wind blew in. Don't worry!"
"Do you know which floor this is?" I asked Red Hair without any expression.
"Eleventh floor."
"Huh? Did I hear that right? It really is the eleventh floor, not the first floor?" I asked, looking at him with a rising tone at the end.
Red Hair pursed his lips, his gaze lingering on the four wide-open windows.
"The air in the room isn't very good, I want to get some fresh air."
"Get some fresh air? Xia Yu closed all the windows before she left, so why did you open them all as soon as I stepped out? Eleventh floor, bro! Eleventh floor! Do you know how strong the wind is here? Even if the air inside isn't good, you don't need to open them all, do you? Can't you open the south-facing windows? Can't you open the balcony windows? Why do you have to open the living room windows for me! This room faces north! North! Do you understand?"
"Why are you being so fierce! How was I supposed to know the wind would be so strong? When I first opened the window, I thought it would just feel a little refreshing! Nothing serious."
"Feels good? Drink up! And now? Nothing serious yet?"
Red Hair swept the floor, and a popcorn kernel rolled to his feet. He stuck out his toe to stop the little thing and gently pushed it, saying, "It's no big deal, can't I just clean it up?"
Good heavens! Did I hear that right? This guy actually said to me in such a nonchalant tone: "Just clean it up a bit, that's all!" Good heavens! I'm the most—
"Making Xia Yu clean is like killing him! Asking him to wash the dishes is like torturing him, let alone mopping the floor, wiping the windows, or tidying up. Didn't you see how pale his face turned?"
Zhang Peng came out of the kitchen, holding a two-liter Coca-Cola bottle that had been cut in half and contained tulips.
"Isn't it a bit too much?" Red Hair looked at me, and I glared back at him. He quickly turned to Zhang Peng.
Zhang Peng placed the homemade vase on the table and smiled at Hong Mao, saying, "You thought he was really worried about whether the house had been broken into? Let me tell you, it's because he saw how messy it was here and the thought of having to clean up the mess made him furious. That's why he was shouting and had such a bad temper. The security measures in this community are pretty good. There's an old lady standing guard at the management office on the first floor. Strangers have to be questioned a couple of times before they come in. It's not easy for thieves to escape their watchful eyes."
After hearing this, Hongmao boldly took two steps closer to me. "Xia Xiang, so you don't like doing housework? Why didn't you just say so? Anyway, with me as the culprit, I'll definitely take responsibility. It's really scary to see you so angry."
Upon hearing this, I looked up at the ceiling, turned around, and headed towards the small room.
Zhang Peng chuckled and said to Hong Mao, "Look, I'm embarrassed because you hit the nail on the head."
"Haha, it seems she really is shy."
I opened the door and turned to the two people who were smiling at me like I was a spoiled child. I said loudly, "You two, stop it already! Don't pretend I don't exist, okay? Zhang Peng, stop talking nonsense over there. Are you coming in or not? If you're not coming in, I'm going to close the door and go to sleep."
"Look, he's starting to get emotional," Zhang Peng said softly to Red Hair, pretending to fiddle with flower petals.
Pshaw, he thinks I can't hear him just because he's whispering? Don't forget, I have super hearing!
"Are you coming in or not?" I asked him again.
"Coming, coming." Zhang Peng looked up, winked at the red-haired guy, and ran towards me with a smile.
Alright, you're in now, so I'll have my chance to deal with you!
Red Hair stood in the hall staring blankly in this direction. Seeing that I was about to close the door, he hurriedly said, "What about me? What should I do?"
"You? Do you even need to ask? You're the one who messed up this house, and you said you'd take responsibility, so of course you're the one who has to clean it up! Oh, and if Xia Yu comes back and blames me because you didn't clean it properly, I'll hold you responsible!"
Red Hair looked at me and said "Oh," without any objection.
After a two-second pause, I closed the door behind me, while Red Hair stared blankly. Turning around, I saw Zhang Peng sitting on the mattress, still grinning from ear to ear.
I pounced on him, pinned him down, and bit his neck a few times. Seeing him laughing so hard he could barely breathe, I straightened up and asked him, rather strangely, "Are you still laughing? Can't you be serious for once?"
"I'm happy, and when I'm happy, I just keep smiling."
"Are you possessed? I've seen you laughing for almost half an hour." I tugged at Zhang Peng's lips and couldn't resist giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"Who asked you to send me flowers? How could I not be happy about something so sweet?" Zhang Peng snuggled his head into my arms and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"Little Slim Waist, why did you call me in?" she asked, looking at me with smiling eyes.
"Who was it that just said in front of strangers that I'm afraid of doing housework? They didn't give me any face at all. Why did I call you in?"
"have no idea."
"have no idea?"
"Um, I don't know."
"Fool, of course I'm here to teach you a lesson!" I yelled, "Here I come!" and pounced on Zhang Peng.
