The neighbors peered through the cracks in the door and over the wall, watching with trepidation, yet unable to resist whispering among themselves.
"My God, is that guy crippled?"
"Judging from that scream, it's almost certainly true... That woman is too cruel!"
"What's so bad about it? That guy must have done something wicked. Didn't you hear that woman cursing him for cheating? Turns out the woman before wasn't his legal wife."
"Tsk tsk, he got beaten up like this by his own wife after cheating on his partner. He deserves it!"
"They always looked so respectable, I thought they were from a decent family, but it turns out..."
"He set up a small family outside without his wife's knowledge, and now that they've come knocking on his door, he deserves to be beaten to death."
"You can't say that. What's wrong with a man going out and finding someone else? Why do you women react so strongly? What if he has three wives and four concubines at home? I think it's just that women are jealous."
"Come on, you have to be capable to have three wives and four concubines. Haven't you heard people say that they don't care even when their families can't afford to eat?"
"Look, look! The doctor is here!"
At the same time the doctor arrived, Wang's eldest son, who was returning home from school, also came along!
What happened?
"Your mother found out your father was having an affair."
The onlookers at the door scrutinized the young man, wondering if his mother was crazy for helping her father steal food while keeping it a secret from his own mother.
What a fine son! Whoever gave birth to him must be furious.
Zhao Dashu was furious when he saw him. "You bastard, you don't care that your father is looking for someone outside, who the hell gave birth to you?"
He then kicked him directly. If it was his son, he would sever ties with him today and kick him out of the house.
"Third Uncle, let me explain."
"You can't explain this to me, go explain it to your mother." It would have been better to have a clove of garlic than to have such a bastard.
Wang turned her head away, unwilling to look at her eldest son even once; that bastard had been spoiled for nothing all these years.
"Brother, what's going on? Why is Father refusing to come home from the prefectural city? What are you two doing?"
"I haven't done anything, just studied every day. Dad said books are expensive in the city and he can help me with my homework, so he wants me to stay. He's my father, what can I say?"
"What's wrong with that woman? Why did tutoring you give us an extra stepmother?" Zhao Jiadong couldn't help but question.
"I don't know either. One day after school, there was another person in the house. We had only hired an old woman to take care of us before, and she wasn't here."
His father said that with his mother not around, he couldn't be left unattended. The woman's background was pitiful; he had rescued her on his way to sell books. After rescuing her, she wouldn't leave him alone, saying she wanted to repay him with her body. He had no choice but to accept.
Zhao Dashu rolled his eyes, feeling truly wronged.
If we're dogs, can't we just admit it openly?
My eldest brother's hypocritical nature will probably never change in his lifetime.
Zhao Xiaoyu rolled her eyes at the sky, just like the previous one. Her aunt was in the village, saying that no one in the county town could take care of her.
They all use the same excuse; it's really perfunctory.
"Couldn't you have stopped them a little?"
"How can I stop him? Do you think Dad will listen to my advice? Wasn't that how it was with the old man? With Mom gone, who could control Dad?"
Wang's tears fell to the ground; she was heartbroken.
Xiao Cui had already run into Zhao Dawen's room and sat anxiously on the edge of the bed. "Doctor, is my husband alright?"
Something can't happen to her. She still has no children, and judging from the way the first wife looks, she's not someone to be trifled with. If she doesn't have a few children of her own, she might be kicked out of the house after the master passes away.
The doctor frowned deeply; all the other injuries were superficial, only that one…
