Mrs. Huang didn't understand what was wrong with the old lady.
The young woman was overjoyed; her child finally had a cotton quilt, and the trip had been worthwhile.
Actually, she didn't want to bring the child with her when she came, but there was no one to take care of him at home, and she didn't trust her older brother with that, as he was mentally ill.
What if she does something to her child because she can't have one herself?
When he came out, we wrapped him in both of the quilts from home.
"Grandma, look, look! The baby is so happy to hear about the new swaddle!"
The gloom in Old Mrs. Sun's heart vanished. "This child knows how to be grateful."
The young woman then brought the child to Song Shi and Zhao Xiaoyu, saying, "Third Aunt, Xiaoyu, look at him. He's a little over two months old, but he seems a bit smaller than Xiaoyu's baby."
"She's shrunk by two or three months, and wow, she's smiling again! She even has two little dimples now, so cute."
The young woman was pleased with herself. When she was just born, her mother-in-law complained that she had given birth to a girl. So what if she was a girl? Wasn't she a girl herself?
Her daughter is also her precious treasure.
As a mother herself, Zhao Xiaoyu could tell that she genuinely loved her child, at least much better than her second aunt who favored sons over daughters.
Ms. Song took a small box out of her pocket. "It's the first time I've seen the child, and I didn't prepare anything. This is for the child to play with."
Zhao Xiaoyu also took out something for the child, something she had thought of when they came, but they had prepared two. If Erzhuzi's wife was nice, she would give her something nicer; if not, she would just give her something to get rid of her.
It was obvious that Erzhuzi's wife and his family were quite satisfied with her, thinking she seemed like a decent person.
The young woman was absolutely grinning from ear to ear. She had struck it rich today. She wondered what was in the box, but she just wanted to rush home to see. She knew it couldn't be anything bad.
Zhao Dashu glanced at his wife, then at Erzhuzi's wife, and thought to himself that his second sister-in-law was not blind after all.
"Erzhuzi, you are so lucky. Your daughter is very blessed."
Erzhuzi's lips curled up, and he grinned foolishly, "I also think my daughter is pretty."
Zhao Dashu: ...
Zhao Dayong's lips twitched. What serious illness did the third son have? He couldn't have a son and could only have girls. He had liked his daughter before, but now he had his eye on his granddaughter.
No, what's so appealing about a good-for-nothing like him? In the future, won't he still have to rely on his son to get things done? On a man?
What can women do?
What an idiot.
The meal began, and everyone ate.
Zhao Xiaoyu glanced at Old Sun's meals. She ate all her meals on the kang (a heated brick bed), and the carpenter made her a movable kang table, which was quite large, twice the size of a normal kang table.
Old Sun's meals were no different from everyone else's, except that the portions were smaller.
How could an old lady eat so much in one meal?
Can you digest food while lying still?
To be honest, the old woman really enjoys her food; she started eating before everyone else had even begun. As an elder, she has that privilege.
Zhao Xiaoyu couldn't help but shake her head as she looked at her holding a chicken leg in one hand and a chicken wing in the other. Everyone says that being able to eat is a blessing, but not everyone can enjoy this kind of blessing.
Times change, and it's best for older people to eat less of this.
However, the baby's appetite was indeed good. It was a blessing that she could still eat after lying down for so long. She admired her for it.
This wasn't the first time Zhao Dashu had eaten with his mother. He had witnessed her good appetite during the last winter solstice, so he wasn't surprised.
Old Mrs. Sun was quite satisfied to have someone to eat with; she enjoys lively gatherings. It would be even better if they could bring their own food in the future; she would welcome them to come every day.
"Eldest, second, and third sons, did you bring your pension money and food for this year?"
Zhao Dawen and Zhao Dayong instantly lost their appetite for the meat in their mouths. Couldn't their mother have waited until they finished eating before bringing this up? She's so shameless, how dare they shortchange her?
