So what exactly did he say last night? What did he say?
Zhao Dashu didn't want to think about things he couldn't understand.
"Xiaoyu, this daily diet is really hard for me lately. Do you have any good ideas?"
"No, we're just staying up all night. How about we have hot pot for dinner tonight? At least it'll be warm."
"A vegetarian hot pot?"
"Hmm, add some fried meatballs and tofu, and the whole pot will be spicy and delicious."
Zhao Dashu was intrigued. Fried meatballs were great! Even the vegetarian kind had some oil, which was better than eating cabbage and radishes.
"Okay, this is for dinner. And make me some dipping sauce, make it a little spicy."
Zhao Xiaoyu felt a little sorry for her father. He loved eating meat the most and had to abstain from meat for three months. Last time, when her grandfather passed away, her father was so hungry that he even wanted to eat himself.
I'll think about what other creative dishes I can make with vegetarian food. The Lunar New Year is over, and New Year's Eve is just around the corner. I should try to make the New Year's Eve dinner more elaborate.
"Where are Xiao Lei and the child?"
“They’re studying indoors. Xiao Lei said he’s had some rare free time lately, so it’s a good opportunity to spend time with the kids and teach them more.”
That's good. It makes things much easier for the son-in-law to take care of the children and daughter. Look, he can be with them right now.
The doctor returned shortly afterward.
"Are you really hurt?"
Zhao Dashu was curious; they had just been wondering if his second sister-in-law didn't want to give him money and was doing it on purpose.
"I'm injured, but thankfully it's not serious. I'll be fine after a few days of rest."
Why call a doctor if it's not serious? I've never seen my second sister-in-law so delicate before.
Zhao Dashu was convinced that Li was just trying to stall for time. Fortunately, he was not leaving the village for the time being, otherwise he and his elder brother might have really taken over the house.
"However, the second wife also has a lot of ailments. She has all the diseases that people in the village have. She should take it easy as she gets older."
"Well, even if you told them, they wouldn't listen."
As parents, it's perfectly reasonable for them to want the best for their children, so he can't say they did anything wrong.
Zhao Dashu always believed that everyone has their own way of living, and there is really no need to interfere with others.
Zhao Xiaoyu got up and went to the kitchen. It was getting late, time for lunch. They were having hot pot for dinner, but they hadn't decided on lunch yet.
After looking around the kitchen, I didn't see anything new. "Dad, let's have noodles for lunch. There's not much rice to go with."
"Okay, either way is fine with me."
After giving instructions to the kitchen, she went to her study.
On the desk, two children held calligraphy brushes and were writing something.
"Aren't you going to rest now?"
"Wait a little longer, Dad said he needs to finish this one and then rest."
"Good girl, wash your hands after you finish writing, it's almost time to eat."
I picked up a painting at random; it depicted a chubby little rabbit.
"Did 7UP draw this?"
"Yes, it's drawn very well."
"Not bad," Zhao Xiaoyu said, putting the painting away. Then she picked up her son's drawing of a horse, which was clearly more lifelike and better than her daughter's.
"You two are both great. Tomorrow's mother will make you fruit candy as a reward."
"Thank you, Mother!"
Lunch was simple: a large bowl of steaming hot noodle soup with some green vegetable leaves and a few specks of oil floating in it, along with homemade pickled vegetables. Zhao Dashu slurped it down with relish.
Except for the children, everyone else had chili peppers added to their bowls, and they were quite spicy.
Zhao Xiaoyu enjoyed the meal; the spiciness was very satisfying, and she even broke out in a sweat afterward.
Xiao Lei and Zhao Dashu, on the other hand, could handle spicier food. Each of them had a small plate of chili sauce in front of them. Zhao Xiaoyu was worried that they would hurt their stomachs by eating too much spicy food, but the two of them said that the spicier it was, the more comfortable they felt.
After eating, I was covered in sweat.
"That feels so good. If I had eaten like this before, I wouldn't have felt cold in the winter."
"Stop talking. You two go wipe yourselves down and change your clothes in a bit. Look at how sweaty you are."
"knew."
