****Light Cruiser Emil Beltin****

Émile Bertin (FFNF émile Bertin) was the lead ship of the Émile Bertin-class cruisers of the Vichy French Navy.

The ship's name comes from Émile Bertin, a famous naval ship designer from Vichy France in the 19th century.

His original design was intended to serve as both a mine-laying cruiser and the flagship of a large destroyer fleet.

According to the 1930 plan, the Vichy French Navy built its second mine-laying cruiser, Émile Bertin, which was a modified version of the planned Pluto, but was ultimately completed with characteristics closer to those of a light cruiser.

Its main guns, in terms of both caliber and carriage, were first used in Vichy France. They were 152mm triple-mounted turrets, with two guns mounted at the front and one at the rear.

The ship can carry up to 200 mines. It uses a 4-shaft propulsion system and is designed for a speed of 34 knots, but during sea trials, it achieved a top speed of 39.66 knots.

In terms of protection, only light armor was applied around the deck and ammunition magazine. After its completion, it was specifically used as the flagship of large destroyers and was never tasked with mine-laying.

During World War II, this ship initially served for Vichy France, and later joined the Free French Navy in June 1943. It underwent refitting in the United States, where the 37mm cannons, aviation facilities and torpedoes were removed, and it was equipped with four 40mm quadruple Bofors anti-aircraft guns, 20 20mm single-mounted machine guns, and radar and other equipment. It then joined the Allied forces in combat operations in the Mediterranean and other regions.
