Soon, the plane arrived over the city.
As they gradually descended, all the soldiers kept their eyes glued to the increasingly clear landscape outside the portholes. When the last standard signal light illuminated, the hatch slowly opened, and a strong gust of wind rushed in.
The 13th Airborne Regiment was the first to be deployed. They lined up neatly and leaped into the sky one after another.
Immediately afterwards, the 14th and 15th Airborne Regiments also quickly left the aircraft one after another, like a string of pearls embedded in the sky.
Meanwhile, pilots from the 16th and 17th Transport Regiments maintained formation to provide necessary cover and support for the paratroopers.
They must ensure that every soldier can land safely and prepare for the upcoming ground battle.
Half an hour later, all 6,000-plus men of the 4th Airborne Division had completed their parachute landing.
"All troops have successfully exited the aircraft; it's time for us to head back!" The transport plane pilot maneuvered the plane toward Nankou Airport.
The aircraft quickly responded, joining the formation and following the lead aircraft's route to turn around and return to base.
Inside Da Nang city, one can see a vast expanse of paratroopers.
The people huddled in their houses, trembling with fear, terrified of an undeserved disaster.
However, when they realized that the soldiers who jumped down were not Japanese soldiers, they all ran to both sides of the street to watch, eagerly waiting for them.
"Aren't you Japanese devils?" a civilian asked, mustering his courage.
"No, we are the airborne troops of the Democratic League Army, here specifically to kill the Japanese devils!" Zhang Haishan said with a smile.
"ah--!"
"It's our troops!"
"God, I knew our troops would come to our aid!"
"Great! We're saved!"
The people gasped in surprise, their previously tense nerves finally relaxing completely.
Having been colonized by the Japanese and the French, they had long since fallen into despair.
If it weren't for the recent rekindling of their hopes by a force called the National League for Democracy (NLD), they would probably still be in dire straits.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" An elderly woman with white hair walked shakily to Zhang Haishan's side with a cane and bowed to him in gratitude.
"Sir, I am Vietnamese, this is what I should do!"
Zhang Haishan quickly reached out to help her up, saying with a smile on his face.
This warmed the old woman's heart even more, and amidst her confusion and bewilderment, she said, "Young man, judging from your accent, you don't sound like one of us Vietnamese..."
“Uh…” Zhang Haishan was taken aback, then smiled and said, “Old man, to be honest, I followed Commander-in-Chief Lin and fought the war of resistance against Japan in China, so my accent has become like this.”
"Oh, I see! No wonder!"
The old woman suddenly realized what he meant, and a look of satisfaction appeared on her face. She then gave him a thumbs up. "Commander-in-Chief Lin is a national hero of Vietnam! I heard that Commander-in-Chief Lin is single. My granddaughter is quite lovely. Could you please play matchmaker and introduce my granddaughter to Commander-in-Chief Lin?"
Zhang Haishan was speechless.
He just wanted to go skydiving, how did it turn into a blind date?
"Commander! We just received a telegram from a reconnaissance plane. The 121st Infantry Division of the Hans is about an hour away from Da Nang!" A communications officer rushed over and handed Zhang Haishan a telegram.
Upon seeing the contents, Zhang Haishan immediately frowned.
He immediately took off running, ordering the troops to quickly regroup and simultaneously setting up a temporary command post in the west, and summoning the airborne regiment commander to a meeting!
...
Half an hour later, inside the temporary command post.
Zhang Haishan stood in front of a table with a simple map of Da Nang on it, covered with dense red and blue lines.
"How are things going with each regiment now? How many have been recruited?" Zhang Haishan asked, scanning the crowd.
Commander Ruan Quoc Dung of the 13th Airborne Regiment was the first to reply: "Commander, our regiment has gathered nearly 1,000 men."
"Commander, our regiment has gathered 800 men," added Li Shirong, commander of the 14th Airborne Regiment.
"Commander, our regiment has gathered 700 men, but some of them have jumped into the sea."
Commander Chen Gongfu of the 15th Airborne Regiment stammered.
1000+800+700, 2500 people.
T-dream, before setting off, he had a division of more than 6,000 men, but he hadn't even managed to gather half of them.
If Lin Feng were there, he'd probably want to slap him across the face.
Despite his thoughts, Zhang Haishan didn't blame anyone. After all, their airborne division was relatively new, and it was understandable that they might jump into the sea if they couldn't find their way out.
"Good! Very good! Excellent!"
Zhang Haishan looked around and said loudly, "I now announce that the entire division is on combat readiness! Each regimental commander is responsible for training and maintaining order. If the 121st Division is spotted, report it immediately!"
"Nguyen Quoc Dung, your 13th Regiment has gathered a lot of people, so the western part of Da Nang is in your hands."
"Yes, sir! Mission accomplished!"
Nguyen Quoc Dung responded loudly, then left the temporary command post to make arrangements for defense.
"Li Shirong, your 14th Regiment is responsible for the north. Chen Gongfu, your 15th Regiment is responsible for the south. Remember, even if you fight to the last man, you must stop the 121st Division from escaping!"
"Don't worry, Commander!"
Before they could finish speaking, a violent explosion suddenly came from afar.
Rumble—!
What was that sound?
"Go and see!"
Zhang Haishan's expression changed drastically, and he immediately rushed out of the temporary command post and ran towards the direction from which the sound came.
Almost instantly, they arrived at their destination.
In the distance, on the sea, there was a Han Chinese fleet!
