Wu Liguang was overjoyed and quickly went downstairs.
Soon, several Willys Jeeps drove into the small building.
Wu Liguang hurriedly went to greet him, opened the car door, and after the person inside got out, he respectfully bowed and said, "Hello, Mr. Tom! Welcome to the Southern National Liberation Front Front Command Post!"
Tom Bruno jumped out of the jeep, took off his helmet to reveal a greasy, chubby face, and smiled, saying, "Committee Member Wu, it's been a long time. The last time we met was a year ago."
Wu Liguang laughed heartily and warmly invited, "Mr. Tom, please come in!"
Tom Bruno smiled and nodded, then followed Li Guoxing into the small building and sat down in the conference room on the first floor.
The meeting room was filled with tables and chairs, and Wu Liguang and several other senior officials took their seats.
Li Guoxing arranged for someone to pour everyone a cup of coffee, and then sat down next to Wu Liguang.
Wu Liguang picked up his coffee and took a sip, then turned to Tom Bruno and said, "Mr. Tom, the committee office has informed me of your situation and instructed me to do my utmost to help you complete your mission. I wonder if you have any methods to deal with the National League for Democracy?"
"Committee Member Wu, do you want to hear the truth or a lie?" Tom Bruno countered.
Wu Liguang said with a smile, "Mr. Tom, I hope you can tell me the truth."
Tom Bruno nodded. "The truth is, even if we are the U.S. military, we cannot stop the Nation's advance south. All we can do is try to buy time."
"Huh? Why?"
Wu Liguang looked at Tom Bruno in disbelief.
Tom Bruno shook his head bitterly. "As you know, we Americans are neutral countries, we have always upheld democracy and freedom, and we never interfere in the internal affairs of other countries."
"Therefore, we have absolutely no right to interfere in your internal affairs in Vietnam. If we do intervene, it will be considered a provocation, and who can bear such a charge?"
"Besides, the National League Army declared war on the Axis powers. In the end, it is also a member of the Allied powers. We can't possibly take action against the Allied powers, can we?"
"If that happens, we Americans will become the enemy of the whole world sooner or later, so I dare not take that risk."
Upon hearing Tom Bruno's words, Wu Liguang frowned.
Wu Liguang knew that although Tom Bruno's words were subtle, they directly revealed the stakes involved.
By declaring war on the Axis powers, the National League for Democracy was essentially sending itself into the Allied camp.
If the US helps their Southern National Liberation Front against the National League for Democracy, it would be tantamount to attacking an Allied power. This would not only trigger conflict between the two sides but also global conflict, leading to chaos throughout the world.
Moreover, the U.S. Congress is currently passing a bill to join its allies, which is an act of internal conflict that is absolutely unacceptable in the international community.
Thinking of this, Wu Liguang sighed softly, “Mr. Tom, I understand your concerns, but we, the Southern National Liberation Front, cannot lose this war. Otherwise, if the National League Army occupies the South, it will be a devastating blow to our Southern National Liberation Front.”
"As you know, our Southern National Liberation Front stands with the United States."
Wu Liguang continued, "Since we are in the same boat, we should stand together through thick and thin. So, no matter what, we must win this battle. We absolutely cannot lose!"
Tom Bruno slowly shook his head: "Committee Member Wu, I admit you're right, but..."
Wu Liguang said urgently, "There are no buts, Mr. Tom. You must believe in our strength. With our powerful firepower and the valiant resistance of hundreds of thousands of people, the National League Army will definitely be defeated! We will not only win, but win spectacularly and completely destroy the National League Army!"
Tom Bruno frowned but didn't reply. He knew that Wu Liguang was determined to get the US to help the Southern National Liberation Front.
After a long pause, Tom Bruno finally let out a long sigh. "Alright, since you insist, I won't waste any more words. Although I can't offer you any substantial help, I can assure you that during this meeting, I will put pressure on the National League Army and buy you as much time as possible!"
Upon hearing this, Wu Liguang perked up and repeatedly clasped his hands in thanks, saying, "Thank you so much, Mr. Tom! On behalf of all members of the Southern National Liberation Front and all the people, I express my heartfelt gratitude to you!"
"Committee Member Wu, you're too kind."
Tom Bruno smiled and said, "You are all my friends, and it's only right for friends to help each other."
A dozen minutes later, a telegram announcing peace talks was delivered to the Southern Miki Corps headquarters.
After reading the telegram, Liu Qingshan cursed angrily: "Damn it! Peace talks?! They even brought in the Americans! These guys are really underhanded!!"
"Commander, the military has issued an order: ignore them all, whether they're the US or Russia!" Shen Chunhua said through gritted teeth.
Liu Qingshan slammed his fist on the table. "I understand what the military means, but there are American people on the front lines. What if a few are killed in the bombing, and it escalates into an international incident? How are we going to explain that?"
“This…” Shen Chunhua was speechless.
Liu Qingshan pondered for a moment, glanced at his pocket watch, and said, “Well, since there’s still plenty of time before the attack, you stay at the command post, and I’ll go to the negotiation site myself to see if I can persuade that bastard Wu Liguang to surrender.”
After saying that, Liu Qingshan got up and walked outside.
Watching Liu Qingshan leave, Shen Chunhua couldn't help but shake her head and sigh. "The commander is usually so composed. What's wrong with him today? Why is he so reckless?"
