Chapter 17 Major General Brigade Commander, What a Big Fish!

"Commander, the reconnaissance unit just reported that the Third Brigade has left Zhangzhuang."

"They are marching rapidly westward."

Upon hearing this, the commander of the 129th Division sat in his chair, his brows furrowed, lost in thought.

After a long silence, he stood up and stared at the battle map. "The Japanese army's mopping-up plans are all under our control. Why did the Third Brigade move westward?"

The political commissar frowned. "Could it be that our intelligence was wrong?"

"impossible!"

The division commander firmly denied this speculation, saying, "You should know the efficiency of the intelligence department. Even if there were a mistake, it's impossible for such a big oversight to occur!"

"Yes, that's true. Our intelligence system is airtight. Unless the Japanese deliberately let us through, they would never make such a basic mistake!"

The political commissar nodded in agreement, "So, what exactly is the Third Brigade's intention in doing this?"

The division commander pondered the matter for a moment, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes. "I can't see through it, I really can't see through it!"

"Judging from the current westward route of the Third Brigade, their target should be Wu'an Township."

"Could it be that something in Wu'an Township is attracting them?"

The division commander muttered to himself, unsure of what to do.

After a moment of contemplation, the division commander said, "Political Commissar, Wu'an Township is the defense zone of the 386th Brigade. Ask the 386th Brigade what the situation is."

The political commissar nodded. "I'll send the telegram right away!"

Upon receiving the telegram from the division headquarters, the brigade commander of the 386th Brigade was completely bewildered.

The brigade commander looked suspicious. "Wu'an Township?"

What could be going on in Wu'an Township?

Before the Japanese raid, Wu'an Township had already received orders to evacuate.

The civilians had already been evacuated, leaving only an empty village. Apart from a 33-man militia team conducting reconnaissance, there was nothing for the Japanese to worry about!

Thinking of this, the brigade commander became even more confused. "Could it be that this militia unit has attracted the attention of the Japanese Third Brigade?"

That can't be!

How could a mere militia unit possibly provoke the Third Brigade to advance westward with all its might?

"Guards, immediately send a telegram to the New 1st Regiment to inquire about what happened in Wu'an Township!"

"yes!"

The guards quickly left.

The brigade commander's brows furrowed even deeper, his mind filled with doubts.

He always felt that this matter was not so simple.

But he couldn't quite put his finger on what was wrong.

...

In the mountainous area north of Zhangzhuang.

The New 1st Regiment is currently waging guerrilla warfare against a regiment of the puppet army.

This regiment consisted of more than three thousand puppet troops.

Despite having an overwhelming numerical advantage, they were also frustrated.

Because they discovered that no matter how they tried to entice them, these collaborators simply wouldn't take the bait.

"Commander, urgent telegram from brigade headquarters."

A messenger ran up to Liang Jun.

"Oh? Let me see it quickly."

Liang Jun took the translated telegram.

After reading it, Liang Jun suddenly broke out in a cold sweat, "Oh no!!!"

"It must be Chen Ergou!!!"

His expression changed drastically, and he no longer cared about anything else.

"Hurry, hurry, hurry!"

"Immediately order the First Battalion to rush to Wu'an Township to support the Wu'an Township militia!"

……………………

It was exactly 10 p.m.

The main force of the Third Brigade arrived at Wu'an Township.

The 49th Regiment and the depleted 17th Regiment joined forces, and the Japanese army of more than 5,000 men completely surrounded Wu'an Township.

Yamashita Hidehiko was covered in cold sweat, but when he saw Yoshizawa Tadao arriving with a large number of reinforcements, a look of surprise and joy appeared on his face.

"General Yoshizawa, you've finally arrived!"

Tadao Yoshizawa nodded slightly. "Yamashita-kun, didn't you have over three thousand men? How come the Chinese army managed to kill over a thousand of them?"

"Yes, sir! Your humble servant deserves to die!"

Hearing Yoshizawa Tadao's reproachful words, Yamashita Hidehiko trembled with fear, knelt down, and said in terror.

Tadao Yoshizawa shook his head and said calmly, "Yamashita-kun, do you know what I admire most about you? It's your courage. Even though the enemy outnumbered us and the actual situation was far beyond our expectations, you still dared to fight to the death. That's why I admire you."

"General Yoshizawa, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it's all my fault!"

Hidehiko Yamashita immediately kowtowed and admitted his mistake with utmost respect, pleading again, "Please forgive me this time. I promise I will never make a similar mistake again!"

"Hmph, I hope you'll remember today's lesson."

Yoshizawa Tadao snorted softly, his eyes bloodshot: "Now, open your eyes wide and see how I'm going to annihilate this Chinese army!"

"Order—49th Regiment and 17th Regiment, advance! Make sure to wipe out the Huaxia troops in Wu'an Township as soon as possible!"

"Hi!"

Commander Keiji Hikawa of the 49th Regiment, Commander Hidehiko Yamashita of the 17th Regiment, and Chief of Staff Yoshio Ishikawa bowed in unison to receive their orders.

...

The night was hazy.

In the pitch-black night, a chilling aura gradually rose.

A thin, hair-like white light quietly appeared, and then the white light grew stronger and stronger until it turned into a dazzling white radiance.

More than 5,000 Japanese soldiers, led by Yoshizawa Tadao of the Third Brigade, slowly advanced toward Wu'an Township.

This is a cat-and-mouse game, and Tadao Yoshizawa is determined to personally destroy this stubborn and unyielding nation.

However, when they entered the village, they found that there wasn't a single Chinese person there.

"Baka Yalu!"

"What?! Where is he?"

Where did everyone go?
