On May 1, 1942, the sea breeze rippled across the magnificent coastline of the Pacific Ocean.
It was a beautiful, sunny day with clear skies and a bright, cloudless sky. The blue sea reflected the golden sunlight, making one want to swim and enjoy nature's bounty.
But for the people living on this land, today is not a day to celebrate—because they are about to face annihilation.
After more than ten days at sea, the Minmeng Fleet surprised all the Japanese troops by not landing on Kyushu, Shikoku, or the Kanto region, but instead appeared on the southeast coast of Shikoku.
At this moment, a massive array of thousands of warships is slowly entering the narrow sea area between Shikoku and Kinki. These warships are densely packed, like a giant dragon stretching across the sky, extending into the distance from the sea, with no end in sight.
Upon seeing this, the surrounding fishing boats and local people fled in panic to avoid endangering the fishpond.
On the flagship, senior officers such as Lin Feng and Yang Wenhai stood on the deck gazing into the distance, each with a solemn expression on their face. Only Lin Feng appeared exceptionally relaxed, as if he were on vacation.
"Let's begin," Lin Feng said, turning around to instruct a second lieutenant in combat uniform behind him.
The lieutenant nodded, then turned and walked over to the communications officer, whispering a few words in his ear.
"Roger that!" The communications officer pulled out his radio. "All units, this is the flagship. Prepare for target bombing. Report your positions and status."
Task Force 56: "This is the flagship of Task Force 56, currently located at 35°15′N, 139°45′E. All systems are normal and weapons are ready."
Task Force 57: "This is the flagship of Task Force 57, currently located at 35°10′N, 139°50′E. Weapons loaded, all normal."
Task Force 58: "This is the flagship of Task Force 58, currently located at 35°05′N, 139°55′E. Ready to move at any time."
Task Force 59: "This is..."
...
Signalman: "Reports received from all units. Our targets are enemy cities, villages, fishing boats, and other facilities along the 140°00'E line. All units, please move into attack formation and maintain radio silence until the last minute before firing."
Task Force 56: "Understood!"
"All ship guns, prepare!" the communications officer ordered.
"Understood!" came the response from the fleet headquarters.
Task Force 58: "All ship guns prepare, target confirmed, commence firing!"
"Launch!" the communications officer commanded.
"Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom—!"
"Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom—!!"
"Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom—!!!"
......
Seconds later, accompanied by a series of violent explosions, shells streaked across the sky, leaving long trails of flame, and landed on cities, villages, fishing boats, and even crowds along the coastline.
Explosions echoed through the sky, flames shot into the heavens, and buildings were destroyed and burned, turning into raging infernos.
The fires quickly engulfed the entire town, along with the residents who had taken refuge in the buildings.
“Ah ...
Chaos erupted on the coast. The elderly, women, children, and even the young all fled in panic towards the distant woods and bushes. Car after car, disregarding the danger, frantically rushed into the forests and bushes in search of shelter, but they were quickly struck down by stray bullets.
Screams, cries for help, and wails filled the air, and in an instant, the towns on both sides of the narrow sea area were transformed into a battlefield, with thick smoke billowing, gunpowder smoke filling the air, and flames soaring into the sky.
This sudden attack stunned everyone; no one expected that the main island of the mighty empire would be attacked by the enemy!
Lin Feng stood on the flagship's observation deck, coldly observing the horrific scene before him, a cruel smile playing on his lips.
This attack was all part of his plan, because he wanted to retaliate in kind and teach the invaders a lesson.
Although doing so would have extremely negative consequences and would draw condemnation from the entire world's public opinion, Lin Feng had already gone all out. He had decided to fight the international community to the death, and he was willing to pay any price.
As the coastline was leveled and artillery fire extended inland, the National League fleet deployed thousands of Me-262 jet fighters, frantically strafing Japanese positions, cities, ports, docks, and airfields.
These fighter jets formed a wide-ranging cross formation in the sky, cruising at extremely low speeds, constantly diving down and dropping incendiary bombs, burning houses and buildings to ashes.
The disaster lasted for three days. By May 6, all the Japanese soldiers and civilians in the surrounding area had retreated to the east or hidden in the mountains and forests. The once bustling Shikoku Island was instantly turned into ruins, and towns were reduced to scorched earth.
Japanese fighter and bomber formations also launched an attack, and large and small air battles took place in the vicinity every day.
On the evening of May 6, 1942.
On the Seto Inland Sea off Shikoku Island, Lin Feng stood on the deck, gazing at the nearby ruins with a cold look in his eyes.
"President, we can begin."
Yang Wenhai came up and reported the latest results to Lin Feng: "We have cleared out all the Japanese airfields nearby, so there is no need to worry about a surprise attack on us for the time being."
