The Japanese army on the western front temporarily formed the 1st Army Group and the 2nd Army Group for the Eastward Advance.

On the eastern front, the Japanese army formed a local corps and advanced into Fukui Prefecture from the Kanto and Chubu regions.
It comprised 16 divisions, including the 202nd, 205th, 206th, 209th, and 212th Divisions, as well as various schools, military police, and police agencies in Japan, totaling over 410,000 personnel.
