Chapter 2 Chatting with the Birds
Juanjuan looked at the two of them happily, thinking that her father must love her brother very much.
Si Jinchen looked at him and said softly, "Dad, I made you worried."
After he finished speaking, he tilted his head and looked at the little kid lying next to him: "I just heard you call yourself Juanjuan."
Juanjuan tiptoed on the edge of the bed, her little hands tugging at the corner of his quilt: "Brother, you have to be good. When you get better, play with Juanjuan together!"
"Okay!" Si Jinchen had just woken up and was not in the mood.
"General, the doctor is here." The housekeeper hurriedly led a group of people into the house.
Juanjuan saw Western doctors wearing white coats and carrying medicine boxes, as well as Chinese doctors wearing long gowns and also carrying medicine boxes.
She was pushed aside by a group of people and let go of Si Jinchen's hand.
Si Jinchen felt the warmth in his hand disappear. He wanted to look for it, but the doctor in front of him blocked his view and he couldn't see anything.
Juanjuan stood in a corner, her mouth slightly open, staring at the doctors without blinking.
She recognized these people. Once before, when she was sick, her mother took her to see a doctor, but the medicine was very bitter.
Is my brother sick too?
Siming stood with his hands behind his back, waiting for the result with a calm expression.
"Congratulations, Commander-in-Chief. The young master is now much better. Now he just needs to take good care of himself and he will be fully recovered." An old Chinese doctor said to Siming with a fist clasped.
"This is simply a miracle. The young master's health is actually recovering." A Western doctor who conducted a comprehensive examination was so excited that he was speechless.
Although Si Jinchen's health has improved, the old Chinese and Western doctors are still a little confused. He was obviously dying, so how could he suddenly get better?
Is it a last gasp?
Siming's face showed no joy: "How to regulate it?"
The old Chinese doctor bowed and said, "Just use a hundred-year-old wild ginseng and a few other precious herbs. The other herbs should be available in the city, but a hundred-year-old wild ginseng might be a little hard to come by."
"I will find a way to get the wild ginseng. You just need to prescribe the other medicines." Siming said.
The old Chinese doctor wrote out a prescription and left the room with the housekeeper.
When Juanjuan saw that everyone had left, she moved towards the bed.
"Juanjuan, were you squeezed just now?" Si Jinchen was worried that she was squeezed by someone just now.
"No, no." Curly's little head shook like a rattle.
A cold little hand touched his cheek: "Brother, you are sick, not tired, right?"
Her clear eyes were filled with worry.
"Brother is not in good health, he will be fine in a few days." Si Jinchen raised his hand and rubbed her yellow hair.
Juanjuan hugged his arm, her pretty eyebrows twisted into a ball: "The medicine is bitter. Juanjuan doesn't like taking medicine, and she doesn't want her brother to take medicine either."
When Siming heard the two little guys' childish chatter, the coldness on his face disappeared: "When brother gets better, he won't have to take medicine anymore, and he can play with Juanjuan again."
“Gurgle gurgle!”
“Gurgle gurgle!”
Two stomach growls were heard.
The two little kids, Si Jinchen and Juanjuan, instantly covered their stomachs with their hands and blushed. They also glanced at each other secretly with smiles in their eyes.
"Hahaha! Go serve the food to the young master and young lady."
The servant immediately brought the food and placed it on the table.
Juanjuan was taken by the servant to wash and change into new clothes.
She looked at the food on the table that she had never eaten before, and the light in her eyes became brighter, without even moving her eyes away from the bowl.
Si Ming looked at her and his saliva was almost flowing from the corners of his lips, but she was still sitting there obediently.
He served the two children two bowls of porridge, the temperature of which was just right: "Drink the porridge first to warm your stomachs. You haven't eaten for a while, so you shouldn't eat too much greasy food."
Juanjuan stretched out her thin hands to hold the small bowl, looking at the thick porridge inside. Her nostrils fluttered like little butterflies, and she could smell the aroma of rice and meat.
She raised her head and asked cautiously, "Can I eat the curls?"
"Of course you can eat it. From now on, Juanjuan can tell dad what she wants to eat. If dad is not around, you can tell the housekeeper." Siming felt a little distressed when he saw her being so cautious.
This child must not have had a happy life in his previous home.
"Juanjuan, when I get better, I will take you to buy lots of delicious food." Si Jinchen looked at her and smiled.
Juanjuan had a bright smile on her face: "Yeah."
After eating a bowl of porridge, her body felt much warmer. She stuck out her tongue and licked the porridge on the corner of her lips.
Si Jinchen wiped the corners of her mouth with a handkerchief: "Do you want to eat more?"
Juanjuan touched her round belly and said, "Dad said I can't eat too much. I'm already full."
She lowered her head and looked at the crescent-shaped white dress embroidered with pink peach petals, and touched the petals with her small hands. This was the first time she had worn such beautiful clothes.
"General." The butler shouted outside.
Siming looked at the two children and said, "Juanjuan, play with your brother for a while. I'll have someone take you back to your room later."
Juanjuan nodded obediently and took Si Jinchen's hand to play aside.
"Speak." Siming looked at the butler.
The housekeeper said, "General, we've searched the entire city, but haven't found any wild ginseng that's over a hundred years old. The roads are blocked by heavy snow, so we can't go to other surrounding towns either."
"Send people to look for him. If you can't find him in the city, go look for him in the mountains." Siming ordered.
When he came back, he was accompanied by two servants: "Juanjuan, come here."
Juanjuan ran over with her short legs: "Dad."
"These two are the servants who will take care of you. When your father is not around, let them take care of you." Siming said and looked at the two servants.
"Bai Ling. Meet the lady."
"Baihui. Meet the young lady."
They both saluted her.
"Hello, sisters. My name is Juanjuan." Juanjuan greeted the two of them with a smile on her face.
Siming touched her head and said, "Juanjuan, let them take you to the room to see if you like it."
Juanjuan's eyes were full of light: "Juanjuan has her own room?"
"Of course." Siming handed her little hand to Bailing: "Take good care of the young lady."
"Yes, General." Bailing took her hand and walked out of the room.
Her room is on the second floor, right next to Si Jinchen's room.
The room was all white and pink, and it contained toys, wardrobes, and many beautiful things she had never seen before.
Bai Ling looked at her and smiled, "Miss, this is what the governor had prepared. Do you like it?"
Juanjuan nodded vigorously, her voice full of joy. She let go of Bailing's hand and ran around the room, touching here and looking there curiously.
“It’s so big here.”
Bailing and Baihui tidied up the clothes in her room.
Juanjuan pushed open the balcony window. There was a large balcony here and sunlight could shine in.
A beautiful little bird flew over to the balcony.
Juanjuan tilted her head and looked at it: "Little bird, do you know where there is wild ginseng?"
Bird: "Chirp. I know! It's the one with the red lantern fruit in the yard!"
When Juanjuan heard this, she immediately stood on tiptoe and stretched her head to look at the yard below, but she was too short and could not see anything.
Looking down, she saw a gap in the guardrail, so she squatted on the ground and looked out through the gap in the balcony guardrail, looking for the red lantern fruit that the bird had mentioned.
She also saw many soldiers with guns in the yard, standing in the snow with a guard post every five steps and a sentry post every ten steps.
Bai Hui glanced at the person squatting on the balcony and said, "Hey! Do you think the Governor really intends to raise her as a mistress?"
"What nonsense are you talking about? Just do your job." Bailing frowned slightly.
Baihui rolled her eyes and said, "I'll go get some charcoal." Then she turned around and left.
