Chapter 355: Reading Spoken English
Siming sent the two children to the orphanage: "Don't run around. Dad will come to pick you up after he has dealt with the matter. If I can't come, I will ask your uncle, second uncle or third uncle to pick you up."
"Okay." The two children nodded obediently and waved goodbye to him.
Siming watched them enter the orphanage, and then asked the driver to drive back to the Governor's Office.
Chen Yongnian saw him coming back and asked: "Are you going to receive the coal?"
"Yeah. I sold some supplies to General Niu, so I have to get something useful in return." Siming sat on the sofa opposite him.
"Are you here today because the Northern Government gave you a reply?" Si Ming crossed his legs.
"They said they are willing to give you the position of the next General Administration of Customs, but only after I retire. But they asked me to work for a few more years."
Chen Yongnian looked at him with a smile.
"Does this count as getting something for nothing?" Si Ming raised his eyebrows and looked at him.
"I told you you wouldn't agree. They know you want someone to learn driving, so they made another concession and gave you ten spots. They'll cover all the expenses."
Chen Yongnian looked at him and said.
"It sounds nice to say there are ten places, but it only adds five more places for me. How much will the total cost be?" Siming was not very satisfied with the result.
"Anyway, I told you that you might not agree, but these people always feel good about themselves, and I can't do anything about it." Chen Yongnian shrugged helplessly.
"It's still early, let them wait patiently!" Siming was not in a hurry at all. The planting season had passed.
Chen Yongnian didn't care. No matter who they replaced to run the General Administration of Customs, they wouldn't be able to deal with Sima Ming.
"Then I'll go back to them."
"Just say I didn't nod." Siming looked at him and said.
"Okay, I understand." Chen Yongnian stood up and left the Governor's Office.
Si Gu has been very busy recently. The machines for his Western medicine factory have arrived and have been transported to the factory for installation.
These machines also have problems, big and small.
Jiang Wang and his son took a look around and said, "Third Master, this is the first time we've seen these machines. Repairing them will probably take quite a while, and it might delay things."
Si Gu finally asked Frank and others to help him to see if they could fix it.
These people raised their eyebrows when they saw the machine: "Agu, are you really planning to build a Western medicine factory here?"
"Yes, there are some problems with these machines. Can you help fix them?" Si Gu looked at them and asked.
Several people looked at each other, then looked at him and said, "Agu, friendship is friendship, we can help, but we have to charge a fee."
"Also, you and the workers here are not allowed to get close while we are repairing it."
Si Gu frowned slightly, not knowing whether he should agree.
"Uncle San, can we play here?" Juanjuan shouted at them from a distance.
Si Gu turned around and looked at them: "Then it should be okay for me to take the kids to play over there!"
"Of course, we will check it first and tell you what materials are needed." Frank agreed readily.
Si Gu asked Jiang Wang and the others to follow him to a distant place to look for the two children.
"Third Master, what do these foreigners mean?" Jiang Wang didn't understand what they were saying.
"They can help us fix it, but they don't want us to know how." Si Gu was not surprised by this result.
"These foreigners are going too far." Jiang Wang said angrily.
"There's nothing we can do about it. The technology belongs to them, and the final say is in their hands. It's good enough that I can help with the repairs." Si Gu has become accustomed to such things.
"Third Uncle." Si Jinchen pulled his sleeve.
"What's wrong?" Si Gu turned to look at him.
Si Jinchen read a word: "What does this mean?"
"Damaged." Si Gu told him directly.
He only reacted after he finished speaking and looked at the two children: "Why are you asking these questions?"
Juanjuan pulled him to bend over and whispered softly in his ear: "Uncle San, don't disturb me. I can lip read."
Si Gu's eyes widened as he looked at Si Jinchen, who was looking at the foreigners in the distance, and his lips moved but no sound came out.
He looked at Jiang Wang and his son, who were still looking angry, and said, "Mr. Jiang, let's cover for Achen."
Jiang Wang didn't quite understand what this meant, but he still played with Juanjuan as Si Gu requested, without blocking Si Jinchen's sight.
After Frank and the others finished checking all the machines, they waved to Sigu and said, "Agu, we've finished checking."
Si Gu walked up to them and asked: "What materials do you need?"
"It's all written on it, including the price." Frank handed him a piece of paper. "When you're ready, you can come to me."
Si Gu took a look at the contents on the paper. The repair cost would be 10,000 silver dollars, plus other materials would cost 30,000 silver dollars.
Frank and the others left after they finished talking.
Juanjuan ran to the door and saw them leaving in the car. Then she turned around and looked at them: "Uncle San, brother, they are all gone."
Si Jinchen was not very familiar with foreign languages, but he wrote down everything he saw and repeated it to Si Gu.
"Achen, you are so amazing." Si Gudu was a little unbelievable. How could this child remember so much?
Si Jinchen was very happy to be able to help his family: "Uncle San, please translate for Grandpa Jiang!"
"Mr. Jiang, they said the problem with this machine isn't serious. We just need to replace a part on the gear."
"The other one didn't have any oil in it, but it worked fine after it was oiled. And that one..."
Si Gu said this while pointing to the machines in the factory.
Jiang Wang hurriedly took his son to check the place he mentioned, and it was exactly as Si Gu said.
"As long as I know what's wrong, I should be able to fix it."
"Mr. Jiang, don't be in a hurry. Let them earn the money first. I still need them to help us repair some other things." Si Gu didn't want to offend these people.
After all, there are more important machine tools behind, and that is the most important.
"I understand. I'll study these machines carefully first and try to make a prototype. Next time if it breaks down, we can fix it without asking them for help."
Jiang Wang was feeling very angry. He didn't believe that the things he repaired could be worse than those repaired by foreigners.
"Okay, tell my second brother what materials you need." Si Gu said with a smile.
While the machine was being repaired, Sigu brought the two children with him and they still sat far away.
I just watched from a distance how they repaired the machines, but I couldn't hear what they were saying.
Frank and the others looked up at the others from time to time to make sure they didn't eavesdrop.
Jiang Wang simply brought a table, tea sets, and various tools from the factory next door, and chatted with them while doing his handicrafts.
He looked like he didn't care how they repaired it.
