Chapter 119 Lin Daiyu

Zhao Gang didn't care whether the new tenants could remember everything. After explaining everything he could, he looked at both families and asked, "Any questions?"

Wang Xiang weakly raised his hand.

Zhao Gang gestured to Jiang.

Wang Xiang: "Who is Peter Pan?"

Zhao Xiaoxiu happily replied, "My fish!"

Wang Xiang clearly didn't understand, and stared blankly for a moment.

Zhao Gang specifically explained: "A two-meter-long giant mutated floating fish, Xiaoxiu's pet."

Everyone: !!!

Looking at the evolved macaque embracing Zhao Xiaoxiu, the two new families exchanged bewildered glances, filled with shock.

What kind of new territory have they arrived in?

Is this still the cataclysmic world they know?

If so, why are humans, mutated floating fish, and evolved macaques able to get along so well on this 300-acre territory?

"It's getting late, so hurry up and pack up. If you need to charge your devices, you can come to my door for a paid service." After giving these instructions, Zhao Gang turned and went home.

Zhao Xiaoxiu refused to leave and stayed with Sister Monkey.

Although the father and daughter said that this evolved macaque wouldn't hurt people, Qiu Bai and the others were still afraid of Sister Monkey. They politely greeted Zhao Xiaoxiu, put down their bags of luggage, and began looking at the house.

The snow was falling from the sky, drifting down in large, fluffy flakes like cotton wool, and soon the luggage that everyone had placed on the ground was covered with a layer of white snow.

Grandpa Jiang stayed behind to look after his granddaughter and luggage. The two of them kept a distance of five meters from Zhao Xiaoxiu, looking like they wanted to ask some questions but hesitated.

Zhao Xiaoxiu was very comfortable in Monkey Sister's warm embrace, and she didn't have to walk on the snow.

In the end, Liu Miaomiao couldn't control herself and, under her grandfather's watchful gaze, carefully stepped through the snow and approached Zhao Xiaoxiu.

"What do you want to do?" Zhao Xiaoxiu asked immediately.

She was very happy to see that although Liu Miaomiao was a little afraid of Sister Monkey, she still took the initiative to approach her.

However, it wasn't outwardly apparent.

Liu Miaomiao was just curious. She glanced at the monkey sister quickly and asked in a low voice, "Can it understand human speech?"

“Of course you can,” Zhao Xiaoxiu replied.

Liu Miaomiao: "If I ask it not to eat me, my parents, and my grandfather, will it agree?"

Zhao Xiaoxiu patted Monkey Sister's chest and said, "They're asking you a question, answer quickly."

Monkey Sister grinned and deliberately let out a low growl to scare children. Suddenly, she bent down and looked down at Liu Miaomiao with a fierce expression.

Liu Miaomiao trembled with fright and almost screamed. She quickly raised her hand to cover her mouth, but still lost her balance and tripped over the snow, landing hard on her bottom in the fluffy snow.

The snow here hasn't been cleared by Zhao Xiaoxiu and her father yet; it's already quite thick after a week.

Liu Miaomiao cried out "Ouch!" as she fell, the thick snow nearly burying her.

Grandpa Jiang was terrified and was about to rush over.

With a swift movement of her long arms, Sister Monkey lifted Liu Miaomiao out of the snow and placed her steadily on the solid ground that the adults had trodden out.

"Roar! Roar! Roar!" Monkey Sister's prank succeeded, and she roared three times to the sky.

Zhao Xiaoxiu glared at it, and the smug monkey laughter finally subsided.

"Are you alright?" Zhao Xiaoxiu slid off Monkey Sister's arms and stood in front of Liu Miaomiao to ask.

The young woman seemed terrified; her eyes were red, and a drop of water clung to her curled eyelashes—it was hard to tell if it was tears from fright or melted snow.

Zhao Xiaoxiu waited for several seconds before she reacted. She first looked blankly at the towering Monkey Sister, then at Zhao Xiaoxiu, who was slightly shorter than her. Suddenly, a blush appeared on her pale face, and she smiled.

"Hehe, hehehe..." Liu Miaomiao patted the snow off her body, unable to stop laughing louder and louder.

Zhao Xiaoxiu burst out laughing, as if she had been tickled.

The two little girls smiled at each other for a long time before they stopped laughing.

Zhao Xiaoxiu took Liu Miaomiao's hand; one was warm, the other was icy cold. But they warmed up together quickly.

"Cough cough cough!" Liu Miaomiao suddenly coughed.

Grandpa Jiang quickly stepped forward, wrapped the thin blanket around his granddaughter more tightly, and used his sleeve to shield the two little girls from spitting onto Zhao Xiaoxiu's face.

Liu Miaomiao quickly let go of Zhao Xiaoxiu's hand and turned her head to the side to cough.

"Grandpa Jiang, what illness does Sister Miaomiao have?" Zhao Xiaoxiu asked in confusion.

Grandpa Jiang sighed softly, "It's a cold now, but the root cause is poor health. The doctor said it's not really an illness, just a congenitally low immunity, making her susceptible to diseases. Her body's defenses are also weak, so she doesn't recover easily from illnesses, and they keep recurring."

But it's still much better than those who are missing limbs or have heart or lung problems; their family already feels very fortunate.

Zhao Xiaoxiu exclaimed in surprise, "Isn't that Lin Daiyu?"

After Liu Miaomiao finished coughing, she asked curiously in a hoarse voice, "What is Lin Daiyu?"

Zhao Xiaoxiu: "They are characters from Dream of the Red Chamber."

Grandpa Jiang looked at Zhao Xiaoxiu in surprise, not expecting that this child born after the disaster would know about Dream of the Red Chamber.

"What is Dream of the Red Chamber?" Liu Miaomiao asked, looking completely bewildered.

Zhao Xiaoxiu patiently explained, "Dream of the Red Chamber is one of the Four Great Classical Novels. It tells the story of jade and fairy herbs... The mortal person in which the fairy herb was reincarnated is Lin Daiyu."

Liu Miaomiao nodded with an "Oh," indicating that she had learned something, and then looked at Zhao Xiaoxiu with admiration, "Xiaoxiu, you know so much!"

"It's alright," the little girl waved her hand, just enough to fool a child.

The Jiang couple, having found a house, came over and urged the father and daughter to go inside and take shelter from the snow, while they would carry the luggage.

"Miaomiao!"

Hearing her mother's call, Liu Miaomiao said to Zhao Xiaoxiu reluctantly, "Can you come and play with me when you have time? Mom never lets me go out."

Zhao Xiaoxiu readily agreed: "No problem!"

"Let's go." Grandpa Jiang picked up his granddaughter and urged Zhao Xiaoxiu to go home quickly, as it was cold outside.

Zhao Xiaoxiu: "Okay, Grandpa Jiang, I'll go back right away."

He agreed verbally, but his body showed no intention of going back.

Turning around, the baby jumped into the monkey's arms. The two followed behind Liu Miaomiao's family, making sure they knew which room they lived in and that the little sister had gone inside before turning back home.

"Kosode!"

Suddenly, Liu Miaomiao called out from behind.

Zhao Xiaoxiu turned around in surprise and saw a head wrapped up tightly in the window on the second floor of the house.

Zhao Xiaoxiu said in a serious tone, "Go inside quickly and close the windows, it's cold!"

"Okay." Liu Miaomiao obediently closed the window and pulled her head back inside.

A moment later, he secretly peeked out the window again.

Seeing the person and the monkey slowly walk away in the snow, turn behind other abandoned houses, and disappear from sight, he regretfully withdrew his gaze, climbed down from the raised bricks, and secretly ran back to his room.
