Chapter 144 Candied Hawthorn

Unaware that their every move was being observed, the cub secretly finished watering the plants, clapped its little hands, stood up, picked up the bucket, and immediately slipped into the backyard.

Now that there are fences and walls, both the front and back yards are enclosed, and Zhao Xiaoxiu likes to go straight to the greenhouse in the backyard from the side of the house.

There's a smug, secret satisfaction in knowing no one can figure out what I'm doing.

"Kosode!"

Granny Meng suddenly shouted, startling the sneaky little girl into a daze.

"Grandma." Zhao Xiaoxiu turned around with a grin, forgetting that the two houses were next to each other, feeling embarrassed.

Grandma Meng, her head and face covered and covered in soot, came over carrying freshly burned charcoal. "I tried burning a batch of charcoal from the thick branches you brought back. I didn't expect it to be a success on the first try. These are for you and your daughter."

Zhao Xiaoxiu looked at the mud mound behind the Meng family's bungalow in surprise, "Grandma, are all these charcoal pieces burned in that mud stove?"

Grandma Meng nodded, "Yes." She took a few steps forward and found the little one still standing there, so she smiled and called for her to follow.

"Where have you been? What are you doing carrying that bucket?"

Zhao Xiaoxiu opened her big eyes and lied, "I'm going to play in the snow."

Using a bucket to hold the snow made perfect sense. Granny Meng smiled and didn't ask any more questions. She carefully placed the ten-odd kilograms of charcoal in her hand into the woodshed by the back door and left.

She still had a lot of thick branches left, and she would study how to improve the quality of the charcoal.

"Thank you, Grandma!" Zhao Xiaoxiu said sweetly from the back door.

Granny Meng waved her hand with her back turned, indicating that she had heard her and that there was no need to be polite.

Zhao Xiaoxiu patted her chest, feeling guilty even though she hadn't done anything wrong.

She shook her head violently to shake off the feeling and happily rushed into the greenhouse: "Sister Monkey! Sister Monkey!"

Just as I lifted the curtain, I bumped into a warm, furry belly with a "thud." I was already wearing thick clothes, which greatly reduced my agility, and before I knew it, "thud!" I fell to the ground with a thud.

Monkey Sister: "......"

Zhao Xiaoxiu: "......"

The child and the monkey stared at each other in silence for a moment, then Zhao Xiaoxiu scrambled up from the ground, patted her bottom, and dusted off her wrinkled cotton clothes.

Monkey Sister squeaked and pointed inside, pulling Zhao Xiaoxiu over to take a look.

Zhao Xiaoxiu thought the evolved crops in the greenhouse were not doing well, so she curiously followed them over, only to find that the evolved tomatoes were bearing fruit.

The grape-like red and yellow berries intertwined, glistening on the green leaves, emitting an alluring glow like tiny colored lights.

"Gurgle!"

Zhao Xiaoxiu unconsciously swallowed hard.

Perhaps the sound was too loud, because Sister Monkey looked down at her bulging little belly and then reached out her paw to touch it.

Once it was confirmed that the sound was coming from there, Sister Monkey immediately picked a handful of small red tomatoes and presented them to the cubs. Eat!

Zhao Xiaoxiu lowered her head and smelled it; it smelled like a genuine tomato, the skin was so fragrant!

But it's probably not ripe yet, right?

The cub couldn't resist the temptation of food. It picked up a red one with its little hand and put it in its mouth. As it bit into it, a bitter taste instantly spread in its mouth, and its face immediately scrunched up.

"So astringent!" Zhao Xiaoxiu thought to herself, her inner voice screaming wildly.

It didn't taste good, but she couldn't bear to spit it out. The soft, sandy texture of the fruit made her, who had been drinking nutrient solution every day recently, feel so good that she wanted to cry.

"Squeak?" The monkey sister stared in horror at the two drops of water rolling down the cub's eyelashes. Thinking she had been poisoned, she quickly grabbed the cub's legs, hung her upside down, and shook her violently.

He growled, "Spit it out, spit it out quickly!"

Caught off guard, Zhao Xiaoxiu let out a "yue" sound, spitting out saliva mixed with chewed fruit pulp. With tears streaming down her face, she rolled over and climbed onto Monkey Sister's back, straddling it and angrily pulling out a long hair from the back of its head.

"Sister Monkey, you're going to choke me to death!" Zhao Xiaoxiu roared angrily.

The monkey sister cried out in pain as her fur was plucked. She quickly reached out and grabbed the baby off her back, pinning its two little hands firmly to the sides of her legs and glaring at her with her big monkey eyes, warning her not to move.

Monkey Sister grinned: Ouch!

Zhao Xiaoxiu: "I'm about to choke to death!"

Monkey tilted her head: Choked to death? Not poisoned?

Zhao Xiaoxiu: "I cried because the food was so bad that I didn't get poisoned."

Monkey Sister: I thought you were poisoned, that's why I made you vomit.

Zhao Xiaoxiu realized she had misunderstood it, and pouting apologetically, she gave it a kiss from afar: "Sweetie, don't be angry."

The monkey's temper flared up quickly but subsided just as fast. He immediately picked up the cub, pouted his monkey mouth, and gave her two firm kisses.

Zhao Xiaoxiu silently wiped the drool off her face and chuckled.

The baby and the monkey made up as before, squatting together in the greenhouse, chin in hand, studying how long it would take for the evolutionary tomatoes to fully ripen.

Monkey Sister: [Five days, I guess.]

Zhao Xiaoxiu felt a surge of excitement; she would soon be able to eat sweet and sour tomatoes!

As for the bunch that Sister Monkey just picked, Zhao Xiaoxiu decided to take it home and let her father think of a solution.

"Dad, you're such a great cook, you definitely won't let these tomatoes go to waste, right?"

The cub held a bunch of beautiful tomatoes in its hands, looking up at Zhao Gang with great anticipation.

During this period, the lords really started to hibernate, stopped socializing, and had no one come to their homes to recharge.

With no outsiders around, Zhao Gang's tentacles automatically emerged and cautiously reached out to the cub's palm. They seemed to smell the fruit and immediately shook their heads in disgust.

Zhao Gang frowned as well; this was far too challenging.

But looking at the cub's expectant eyes, she couldn't bear to refuse.

"Dad, give it a try." Zhao Gang took out a small bowl and had Zhao Xiaoxiu put the raw tomatoes in it. He then carried the bowl to the stove and fell into deep thought.
