Chapter 200 The Grand Hotel

The new road leading to Jiangcheng is a new road built on the old one. The specially hardened surface means there's no need to worry about it being damaged by the roots of mutated plants.

The road had only been open for a short time, and there weren't many vehicles on it, only one every now and then.

Unlike the roads near Peach Blossom Base, which are frequented by numerous hunting teams and where no one follows traffic rules, resulting in at least one car accident every day.

Zhao Xiaoxiu sat by the window, observing the scenery along the way with curiosity, and saw abandoned villages covered with green plants.

Those reinforced concrete houses built by humans are completely covered in green, rising up like they are wearing a green plush coat.

While ensuring the safety of the road construction workers, the road construction security team would clean up the villages and towns near the road whenever they had spare time.

Two new planting areas were established on these foundations, and new lords joined one after another. On the originally barren and green hills and plains, people could be seen clearing land, repairing houses, and cutting down mutated trees that were in the way.

Zhao Xiaoxiu thought humans were amazing creatures, impossible to kill no matter how hard they tried.

As long as you instill a belief in them and give them a tool, even mutants cannot take away their space to live.

Look, wisps of smoke are rising from the fields; they are working hard to build a new home.

"Everyone be careful!" came the warning from Meng Er in the car in front over the walkie-talkie.

A mutated creature suddenly appeared from the roadside. It was a reptile that Zhao Xiaoxiu had never seen before, covered in sharp horns. It curled up its body, forming the shape of a car tire, and rolled towards the speeding vehicle at high speed.

If it hits you, you'll almost certainly get into a car accident.

The little boy driving exclaimed, "These days, even mutants have become smarter! They all know the most effective way to deal with moving cars."

However, while he exclaimed in amazement, his hands and feet moved nimbly, turning the steering wheel and straightening it again, the car body passing by the 'tire' that was crashing into it, avoiding a close call.

Zhao Xiaoxiu peeked back and quickly warned, "It's turned back and is chasing us!"

Zhao Gang calmly took out his walkie-talkie to remind the Meng brothers in front to be careful.

Xiwa smiled confidently, leaned out and shouted to the car in front, "Mengxia, floor the gas pedal! This thing can't possibly be faster than my modified car!"

After saying that, it let out a strange howl to remind the car in front that it was about to overtake, stepped on the gas, turned the steering wheel, and sped off with a "whoosh".

Fortunately, Zhao Xiaoxiu was wearing a seatbelt, otherwise she would have been thrown out of the car window.

However, once it picked up speed, it immediately left the relentlessly pursuing 'black tires' far behind.

The pickup truck was initially in front, but was overtaken by the off-road vehicle and ended up far behind.

Meng Er couldn't stand Xiwa's arrogance and urged the driver, Meng Da, to go faster.

"Brother, overtake him, overtake him!" Meng Er shouted urgently.

The two lords in the same carriage were not idle either. They took out their weapons and fired. The two 'black tires' took a few bullets and finally gave up, rolling into the weeds by the roadside.

The crisis was over, and we were halfway through the journey.

After another half hour of driving, the familiar city came into view for Zhao Xiaoxiu and her father.

Once the group passed the checkpoints set up on the outskirts of the city, they had entered the urban area.

The wide roads have all been paved, and there are many vehicles at the entrances and exits, mostly heading out of the city.

The sun was already high in the sky. Zhao Xiaoxiu glanced at her phone; it was 10:30 a.m.

They set off at eight o'clock in the morning and it took them two and a half hours to get from the planting area to Jiangcheng.

"It's even closer than going to Taoyuan Base!" Zhao Xiaoxiu said to her father with delight.

Zhao Gang said, "Now the road to Taoyuan Base has been paved, and it only takes two and a half hours to get there, or three hours if you drive slowly."

Zhao Xiaoxiu said, "That's great!" No more bumpy dirt roads, and there's plenty of time to make a round trip in a day.

Last time, Zhao Xiaoxiu's impression of Jiangcheng was that it was a green forest city.

Looking back after six months, the changes have been earth-shattering.

All the greenery was cleared away, and there wasn't a trace of green left in the city. Any greenery that sprouted was immediately dealt with by patrolling soldiers.

Ten-meter-high barbed wire fences were laid around the city, firmly surrounding this city full of high-rise buildings.

Most of the abandoned houses are now occupied, and there are many shops along the roadside, mainly engaged in car repair and modification, as well as many hardware and spare parts stores, making it a mixed bag of businesses.

Further in, the streets became noticeably cleaner, and the people coming and going were mostly soldiers in uniform, which made one feel very safe.

The children play on the street in front of their house, and the adults aren't worried at all.

The colorful lights in front of the barbershop spun around, attracting customers to enter.

The large floor-to-ceiling glass display case is filled with colorful bottles of liquor, and classical pop music drifts from an old record player through the half-closed golden door.

Young men and women, dressed in bright clothes, with exaggerated hairstyles and exquisite makeup, smiled as they pushed open the metal door and entered the store.

The shop owner, wearing a pirate captain's hat and a single eye patch, warmly greeted customers, asking if they wanted a glass of his newly mixed fruit wine.

A green graffiti-covered bus slowly pulled up and stopped in front of the bus stop sign. People waiting for the bus boarded, and those who arrived at their stop got off. Everyone carried their newly purchased items and had smiles on their faces.

Everything was as if the catastrophe had never happened, but that was only because everyone had become accustomed to it.

The two carriages stopped at a busy intersection, and the lords who had been hitchhiking got out and headed towards their destination.

Meng Da asked over the walkie-talkie, "Brother Gangzi, which way do we go?"

Looking at the bustling intersection lined with shops, Zhao Gang's gaze settled on a hotel across the street with a sign that read "Grand Hotel," and he spoke into the walkie-talkie:

"Mengqiu, you and Grandma go to that big restaurant across the street and ask them if they want to evolve tomatoes and fish. We'll sell the goods first."

But it was getting late, and there was still a long list of supplies to purchase, Zhao Gang added:

"If they can buy them all, we can offer a discount."

“Okay.” Meng Er put down the walkie-talkie, gave Meng Da directions, and the two brothers drove the pickup truck directly to the entrance of the hotel.

Meng Er got out of the car and went inside to find the manager. A short while later, he came out with a tall woman.

The woman inspected the goods, then checked them again with the testing device. The green light flashed, and she smiled with satisfaction, immediately offering a price.

Meng Er thought it was a good idea, so he contacted Zhao Gang via walkie-talkie. Only then did Xiwa drive over and show the woman the tomato sauce and fresh Evolution tomatoes.

There were quite a few passersby who were attracted by the group of people parked in front of the hotel. They couldn't help but come over to take a look, and when they saw the bright red "evolution tomatoes", they immediately asked if they were for sale.

One person asked, and then another person asked. The manager hadn't even finished inspecting the goods when suddenly a crowd gathered around.

She grew anxious and gestured to Meng Er and Xiwa to drive the car to the back entrance of the hotel, saying she wanted everything from the restaurant.

The onlookers, unwilling to give up, grabbed Meng Er and asked where the fish and tomatoes came from. They had almost lost their sense of taste from drinking too much nutrient solution, and seeing these fresh ingredients made them look like they hadn't eaten for eight hundred years, their eyes turning red.
