Chapter 271 Buying Seeds

The two rooms are connected by a simple wooden staircase.

Climbing the stairs, you arrive at the small balcony at the entrance of the treehouse on the second floor.

From a distance, the two-story building and the charred wood blend together seamlessly, appearing as if naturally formed.

There's another clever detail in the house—a small wooden door next to the kitchen on the first floor.

The small wooden door was 1.5 meters high, with a round wooden ring on it, just the right height that Zhao Xiaoxiu could easily reach.

The small wooden door required Zhao Gang and Sister Monkey to duck and bend over to pass through; only Zhao Xiaoxiu, with her size, could hop and jump in the low passage.

The door leads directly to the cave at the base of the tree. The original gap was blocked by Zhao Xiaoxiu with sticky mud, and the wooden door next to the kitchen became the only passage.

The tree hollow has ample storage space, and a simple wooden frame made by Zhao Gang is placed against the wall, which can be used to store tools.

The temperature inside is higher than outside, so it can be used as a greenhouse.

Unfortunately, none of the seeds could be brought out, and thinking of this, Zhao Xiaoxiu's high spirits also dropped.

Zhao Gang saw through his daughter's little thoughts, gently patted her head with his large, warm hand, and said in a gentle voice:

"The sun is out. I'm going to town to buy some seeds today. The soil here is fertile, so I can buy more seeds and plant them all over the valley."

"Planted all over the valley?" Zhao Xiaoxiu was taken aback, tilting her head back with her round eyes wide open.

Zhao Gang nodded, "Yes, it's planted all over the valley, even bigger than Territory No. 13."

Zhao Xiaoxiu couldn't help but ask, "Dad, are you serious?"

Excluding the area of Jiaomu that was surrounded by the Green Fairy, the open space that Dad had cleared out was four or five times the size of Territory No. 13.

There are only two of them, one fish, and one monkey. How long would it take to plant them all over the valley?

Thinking of this, Zhao Xiaoxiu no longer felt lost and sad, and quickly pulled her father away from the storage room, "Let's go to town to buy things!"

Zhao Gang looked at the little boy who was happily heading to the city with doting eyes; he knew the little boy liked farming.

Look, as soon as they hear we're going to the city to buy seeds, they're so happy they could fly away.

Zhao Xiaoxiu, busy packing her backpack, had no idea what her father was thinking. Otherwise, she would have cried her eyes out, because she had no interest in farming.

However, it would be a waste not to make use of such a large and fertile piece of land right in front of our house.

Zhao Xiaoxiu silently took notes in her mind, wanting to buy all the vegetable seeds she could find at the supply station and plant vegetables in the several hundred square meters in front of her house so that she could eat whatever she wanted in the future.

The idea was beautiful, but reality dealt a heavy blow to the father and daughter.

At the supply depot on the outskirts of Jiangcheng, the clerk in charge of exchanging goods stared at the father and daughter in front of the counter as if they were fools, and said in a completely flat tone:

"All seeds can only be obtained by the lord of the planting area; the official authorities cannot sell them to outsiders. Therefore, there are no seeds in the supply station. Do you need anything else?"

This person is quite polite. Zhao Xiaoxiu and her father exchanged a glance and decided to buy something else first.

Zhao Gang: "One box each of oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar; two sets of toiletries; and then... let's leave it at that for now."

Check out the free trade market for other items; they're cheaper there than at the supply depot.

Zhao Xiaoxiu secretly gave her father a thumbs up, "Dad, you even know how to compare prices to save money!"

Zhao Gang straightened his chest; the Tata tribe is known for its high intelligence.

The clerk placed the items Zhao Gang requested on the hoverboard that Zhao Xiaoxiu was holding onto. He glanced at Zhao Xiaoxiu again, feeling that she looked vaguely familiar, but he couldn't quite place where he had seen her before.

Zhao Xiaoxiu smiled politely at her, took her father's hand in one hand and the hoverboard in the other, and the father and daughter left the supply station and walked to the free trade market.

There were no more missing person notices for Zhao Xiaoxiu on the streets; instead, the streets were covered with advertisements promoting the registration process for the first batch of voluntary vaccinations for the virus.

Zhao Xiaoxiu noticed that people were smiling more than before, as if they had rekindled their hope for the future.

A young couple walked past the father and daughter on the street. The woman excitedly held up a test report and said, "I'm really pregnant. I didn't expect the vaccine to work so quickly. We've been trying for five years without any results."

The man beside her exclaimed with delight, "We never imagined the vaccine would actually be real. We were among the first to receive subsidies and points, and now we've successfully conceived, plus there's an official childcare subsidy... We're so lucky!"

Zhao Xiaoxiu looked back at them as they walked away with joyful faces, and couldn't help but smile as well.

She still hopes that humanity will get better and better, and that everyone can completely get rid of the torment of the virus.

The sun was blazing overhead, and the weather radio on the street said it would be the warmest day in the fourteenth year since the catastrophe.

After today, we officially enter November, and the temperature will drop sharply to below ten degrees Celsius.

"It's time to plant evolved potatoes again, and rapeseed can also be sown," Zhao Gang suddenly said.

Zhao Xiaoxiu sighed, "Sigh~" She really wanted to eat the evolved tomatoes and pumpkins.

“The free market has the seeds,” Zhao Gang said with certainty.

Zhao Xiaoxiu's eyes lit up immediately, and she strode to keep up with her father. The father and daughter walked for a full half hour in the most remote black market of the free market, turning left and right, before stopping in front of a simple stall.

The father-daughter duo attracted attention. The owner, who was sitting on the charcoal grill reading a novel, lazily put down half of his book and asked impatiently, "What do you want?"

His stall only displayed miscellaneous books, all related to the deepest human emotions, but no children's books.

Unless you're a close acquaintance, you wouldn't know he has other good stuff here.

Zhao Gang got straight to the point: "I want seeds."
