Everyone had left. The staff member glanced at the few people still standing in front of him and asked, "Do you want to exchange?"
The three members of the Meng family, mother and sons, shook their heads frantically.
Since that meteor shower, no one has ever considered leaving the safe base.
For ordinary people in particular, encountering mutated plants and animals means certain death.
Just thinking about being surrounded by plants and animals made Granny Meng shudder.
"Let's go, let's go check out the rental area." Meng Lao Er reached out and grabbed Zhao Gang and his daughter, and started to walk out.
But when they reached the Lord's Plan Point, the father and daughter suddenly stopped.
Meng, as if realizing something, looked at the two of them in surprise, "Brother Gangzi, have you thought it through?"
Zhao Gang and Zhao Xiaoxiu, who was holding his hand, nodded together, their expressions serious.
“We’re going to participate in the Lord’s Plan.” Zhao Gang’s eyes were firm, clearly showing that he had made up his mind.
Meng Lao Er then realized what was happening and looked the father and daughter up and down in disbelief. Fearing they didn't understand the danger, he solemnly reminded them, "That's in the middle of nowhere."
He knew all too well what the situation was like there, having accompanied the leader of the Taoyuan base on a mission to clear the area over the past few days.
The land was vast, but there was no human habitation or the protection of a base's firepower. In case of danger, there would be no way to call for help.
Zhao Xiaoxiu understood what he meant and pointed to the rules display screen of the Lord's Plan Point.
It says on it—
Survivors who successfully claim a territory will receive an additional month's worth of rations. Furthermore, patrol groups are stationed within the territory to provide security for the lord.
Thirteen years have passed since the catastrophe. We humans should bravely step out of our bases and reclaim our place in nature, all for a better tomorrow!
The three members of the Meng family looked at the screen. The slogans were inspiring, but the reality was much harsher.
"Then I wish you good luck." Meng Lao Er stopped trying to persuade him.
Gangzi is an evolved human, and he's so strong, there shouldn't be any problem.
He might actually become a wealthy lord.
Meng Laoda handed the bicycle and luggage he was pushing back to Zhao Gang, and patted him heavily on the shoulder, "Take good care of Xiaoxiu, we'll come to see you when we have the chance."
Zhao Xiaoxiu quickly took off her backpack, took out a pencil, wrote down her phone number, and handed it to the Meng brothers.
"Once you buy your phones, we can keep in touch by phone," Zhao Xiaoxiu said with a smile.
Meng Lao Er took the phone number, his feelings complicated.
"Are we really going to break up?" he asked, frowning with reluctance.
Father and daughter nodded to each other; it was truly time to part.
Zhao Xiaoxiu said, "But we will definitely meet again, right?"
Grandma Meng knelt down with heartache and gently cupped Zhao Xiaoxiu's face in her hands. "Good child, Grandma will definitely live well."
Meng Laoda helped his mother up. He didn't know what to say, so he remained silent.
The group looked at each other in silence, and soon they were separated by the passing crowd.
Watching the Meng family mother and her two children depart, Zhao Xiaoxiu thought to herself that perhaps staying away from humans was her comfort zone.
During this time, the father and daughter lived separately from the main group, enjoying their freedom. She found that she quite liked this pace of life.
The new resettlement plan involves moving into the high walls of the Taoyuan Base, which is essentially no different from being in the unfinished building before.
Since that's the case, why not try a new way of living?
What if there's a surprise?
The father and daughter pushed their bicycles to the Territory Project site.
There are many onlookers, but very few people actually sign up.
But people seem to be born with a tendency to follow the crowd, so when Zhao Xiaoxiu and her father stood in the registration line...
Suddenly, several more people stood up behind me.
Gradually, the line grew longer and longer.
After all, a month's worth of food rations is quite tempting.
The registrar asked, "Please show your points card when registering."
Zhao Gang handed over the points card.
"The first person to register has priority in choosing." The registrar swiped his card to log into the system, displayed a land planning map on the tablet, and let Zhao Gang choose.
Zhao Gang glanced around and pointed to plot number 13, the only area he was familiar with and had personally participated in cleaning.
I can't speak for other things, but safety is guaranteed.
Moreover, there is a river and abandoned houses there, so you can find a place to stay for a short time.
The registrar asked if he was sure, and Zhao Gang nodded.
The registrar then entered the information into Zhao Gang's points card.
"From this moment forward, Mr. Zhao Gang, you are the lord of Territory Thirteen."
The registrar handed over a small green booklet. "This is the Consulate Responsibility Handbook. Please keep it safe and memorize it. You can collect your supplies next door using your points card."
Zhao Gang held the small green booklet, gestured for his daughter to follow, and pushed his bicycle to the supply truck next door.
The staff here were very welcoming. After checking the points card and confirming the information, they immediately handed the supplies to the father and daughter.
The bag of seeds was heavy, containing seeds of evolved sweet potatoes, potatoes, and more than a dozen other low-level mutated fruits and vegetables.
A set of tools: a hoe, a sickle, and a filter cartridge.
There are also thirty bottles of potato-flavored nutrient solution.
"The truck is ready to depart immediately, so please get on board quickly," the staff member reminded, pointing to a large blue truck parked not far away.
Zhao Gang nodded, took his daughter to the truck, and while there were few people around, put the bicycle and luggage on the truck. He then spread his backpack on the ground as a cushion for Zhao Xiaoxiu to sit on and wait for him.
I hope I can redeem all 250 points I have left on my base points card.
Zhao Xiaoxiu nodded understandingly; she would take good care of the luggage.
Little did she know that when Zhao Gang left, he glanced at the guards standing in front of the truck and had already arranged security for her.
