Chapter 57 Failed Flower Planting

When Zhao Xiaoxiu woke up in the morning, it was still drizzling outside the window.

Last night, the wind was strong, blowing the pile of discarded furniture used as firewood in the backyard to pieces. Zhao Gang is currently cleaning it up.

It was another morning when Zhao Xiaoxiu woke up to find her father not by her side. She stretched and got out of the hard bed, yawned, rubbed her eyes, and dressed and got out of bed by herself.

I finished washing up in the bathroom first, and then ran downstairs with my hair all frizzy.

First, I went to the kitchen, grabbed a golden autumn pear from the dining table, and while munching on it, I wandered around the kitchen and successfully sniffed out the sparrow meat that Zhao Gang had covered on the stove.

We didn't finish the mutated sparrow meat last night, but we've already processed it all, leaving only this small bowl on the stove.

Zhao Xiaoxiu glanced at the seasonings on the spice rack, put down the bowl containing the sparrows, and went out the back door through the woodshed next to the kitchen.

"dad!"

A clear, childlike voice rang out behind him. Without turning around, Zhao Gang knew that the cub was in excellent condition today.

He looked up from his busy chopping wood, smiled at her, and asked, "What would you like to eat for breakfast, Xiaoxiu?"

Zhao Xiaoxiu was delighted and tentatively asked, "How about we stir-fry the sparrow meat?"

"Okay." This small request must be met.

Zhao Xiaoxiu quickly finished the pear in her hand and wanted to go over to help, but Zhao Gang quickly gestured for her to stay inside.

Last night's heavy rain washed all the mud down the hillside behind the house, leaving the cracked cement ground behind the house covered in mud and water.

The father and daughter looked up at the sky together. The rain wasn't heavy, but it was still falling. The sky was overcast, and white mist hung in the distance. It looked like the weather wouldn't clear up today.

The father and daughter exchanged a glance. It wasn't a good day to go out, so they had to cancel their plans to go hiking in the mountains over the weekend.

Zhao Xiaoxiu remembered the mutated little purple flower she had dug up yesterday. She told Zhao Gang to call her when breakfast was ready, then turned around and ran to the front yard, disappearing in the blink of an eye.

Zhao Gang wanted to call her to stop and comb her hair, but he didn't even have time to say it.

In the little one's eyes, the new home is like a brand new amusement park. She has only explored the tip of the iceberg, and there are still many places to explore.

Zhao Xiaoxiu took off her socks, wearing only plastic sandals, put on an ill-fitting raincoat, covered her head with a rain hat, found a hoe, and dragged it out of the house.

She wanted to find a new home for the little purple flowers so they could stay.

The rain washed over the earth, and the ashes from the burning were carried by the water to low-lying areas, eventually flowing into the river and disappearing without a trace.

The land revealed its original color, a yellow tinged with black.

The rain soaked the ground, and even on seemingly flat ground, Zhao Xiaoxiu's foot immediately left a small mud puddle.

Soon, the ground in front of the door was covered with her small footprints and furrows left by the hoe.

Zhao Xiaoxiu finally found a satisfactory location—around the mutated dwarf pine.

She decided to bring a neighbor to the dwarf pine so that it wouldn't be all alone and pitiful.

Zhao Xiaoxiu chuckled, grabbed a hoe, and started digging.

She planned to plant a ring of small purple flowers around the dwarf pine, but obviously there weren't that many purple flowers.

But it's okay, let's plant a half circle first, and when the weather clears up next time, she and her father can go out of the isolation zone and dig up more small purple flowers.

Human infants who have never farmed do not know that rainy days are not suitable for digging, nor do they know that wet soil is more difficult to dig than dry soil.

All she wanted was to find a home for Little Purple Flower as soon as possible. Although she was slow to realize that digging the hole wasn't going well, she wasn't the type to give up easily when faced with difficulties, and she persisted until half of the hole was dug.

When Zhao Gang finished making breakfast and came out to call for people, he saw his little one wearing a raincoat, holding a hoe that was as tall as two of her, staring incredulously at the ditch in front of him.

The rain intensified without us realizing it, and the newly dug semi-circular ditch became a natural water storage ditch.

"Is Xiaoxiu playing in the mud?" Zhao Gang asked with a smile, standing under the eaves at the door.

He asked in a normal tone, but someone's pride shattered instantly.

Zhao Xiaoxiu finally realized that farming is not easy!

She walked back dejectedly, carrying a hoe, and looked up, revealing her aggrieved eyes under her rain hat. "Dad, I just wanted to plant the little purple flower next to the dwarf pine so it could be my neighbor."

Zhao Gang asked in surprise, "Didn't you want to get soaked in the rain and play in the mud?"

He knew that human cubs' two favorite activities were playing in the rain and splashing in the mud.

Zhao Xiaoxiu: "......"

Never mind, let's go inside and have breakfast first.

Zhao Gang shrugged, took the hoe that the cub had dropped, washed it off in a small puddle that naturally formed at the door, and then hung it under the eaves to dry.

As soon as the gate closed, tentacles flew out, pinning down the cub that only wanted to climb onto the stove and get the meat bowl, and combing its hair neatly.

My hair has grown a bit longer in the last two months, and I can braid a small section of it into a three-strand braid now.

Tentacles tied two little braids up behind her head, below her ears, and tied them with two pink bubble heart hair ties, making her look cute and playful.

Zhao Xiaoxiu finally broke free from the tentacles' control, stood on tiptoe, reached out and accurately touched the meat bowl, took it down, and sat at the dining table to start eating.

The stir-fried sparrow meat with soy sauce was incredibly flavorful and juicy. Zhao Xiaoxiu couldn't even imagine how happy she would be if she had a bowl of white rice with it.

After finishing the entire bowl of sparrow meat, even sucking the bones, Zhao Xiaoxiu let out a satisfied burp, jumped off the dining chair, grabbed a thin, bloody tentacle peeking out from the doorway, shoved the dirty bowl into its mouth, and promptly slipped away.

Zhao Gang was busy repairing furniture in the tool shed. He found a plane in some corner of the room and planned to refurbish the old furniture in the room.

Zhao Xiaoxiu was a little bored. She stood under the eaves at the door, looking at the large raindrops and then at the pond to the south, which was full of water and constantly expanding in all directions. She sighed.

There's nowhere to go, and no flat-screen TV to watch.

They don't know how to dig, and the poor little purple flowers are still lying behind the door.

Zhao Xiaoxiu ran to the kitchen and brought back a bowl of water, sprinkling it little by little on the roots of the little purple flowers, hoping they could hold on.

Just as I was busy, the roar of a car starting up suddenly came from the patrol station next door.

Zhao Xiaoxiu had just put down her bowl and was about to run out to see what was going on when her satellite phone, which was lying on the sofa, rang.

A tentacle snatched the phone and handed it to Zhao Xiaoxiu.

She touched the closed fleshy bud on her tentacle and answered the phone.

It's Captain Mo.

"Zhao Gang..."

Zhao Xiaoxiu: "Uncle Mo, I'm Xiaoxiu."

There was a noticeable pause on the other end of the phone before the voice continued, "Have your father answer the phone."

"Oh." Zhao Xiaoxiu pouted, hating herself for being a child.

Just as he turned to hand the phone to the tool shed, Zhao Gang came out, took the phone, patted the cub's head with one hand, and turned on speakerphone with the other.

Mo Shigui's calm voice came through the phone: "A large number of floating fish have appeared in the northwest corner. The lords of plots one and eight have just agreed to let everyone in. If you want to come, leave now. My car will be at your door in five minutes. 200 points per floating fish."
