Chapter 86 The atmosphere was harmonious tonight.

In the evening, the digging soldiers, who had been working non-stop all day, finally got a rest.

The restless White Walkers inside the city were temporarily attracted by the special sound waves and would not rush out of the city. Everyone could finally stop and have a drink of water and something to eat.

Just then, a fragrance that was about to disappear from the soldiers' memories suddenly wafted out from the forest.

The soldiers, who were enjoying their nutrient solution, all turned their heads to look, only to find that the aroma was coming from the temporary camp of the 528th Squadron.

There were twenty of them, chopping firewood, moving stones to build a stove, and setting up a large pot to cook something.

There was also a tall, stern-faced man who looked like he was a great cook wandering around the camp.

He would check on the food cooking in the pot for a while, then go and direct his teammates to set up the barbecue grill, reminding them to pay attention to the heat when grilling the meat.

Everyone had been busy all day and was so tired they were almost out of breath.

The men in their 528 squadron, however, seemed to be on steroids, being completely controlled by the tall man, all while laughing and joking.

Soon, the aroma of roasted meat wafted out.

It's the kind of aroma that comes from adding cumin, brushing on sauce, and grilling over high heat, where the meat juices and seasonings are fully blended together, creating an intensely stimulating flavor that tantalizes the taste buds.

"Gulp~" Someone swallowed hard, followed by a series of swallowing sounds that echoed throughout the trench camp.

"Alright." Zhao Gang put two large handfuls of tender green leaves into the boiling broth, clapped his hands, and nodded to Mo Shigui and the others. "Dinner can be served now."

The teammates all turned to look at their captain. Mo Shigui couldn't resist the resentment of these starving ghosts, so he quickly waved his hand and said, "Eat up, eat up."

As soon as he finished speaking, a group of burly men grabbed lunchboxes that hadn't been used in who knows how long and squeezed in front of the big pot, each filling a bowl with soup containing meat and vegetables.

Mo Shigui roared, "Line up! Haven't you guys eaten meat in your eight lifetimes?!"

After finally getting the line organized, once they moved to the barbecue grill, it turned into a frantic scramble for food.

Each person grabs a handful of fragrant grilled meat skewers, without even looking for a seat, and starts eating them right away.

"Holy crap! Zhao Gang, your cooking skills are simply amazing!"

"Brother Gang, from now on you're my real brother!"

After that, all that could be heard was the sound of people chewing heartily and slurping down meat and vegetable soup.

Faced with the praise, Zhao Gang remained indifferent; he had already reserved the tenderest meat and the most fragrant skewers for his cub.

The father and daughter sat on the edge of the truck bed, one watching and the other eating.

Zhao Xiaoxiu didn't have time to talk. As she ate the succulent roasted meat, she instantly felt that all the hard work of the day was worth it.

Take another sip of the meat and vegetable soup. The tender leaves are fully soaked in the broth, smooth and crisp, which perfectly relieves the greasiness of the roasted meat.

These two combined are simply perfect!

Unbeknownst to them, the other soldiers in the squad, drawn by the aroma of the food, silently spat out the nutrient solution in their mouths, their expressions gradually contorting; jealousy makes people ugly.

"Old Mo!"

A captain who was familiar with Mo Shigui walked into the 528 formation camp with a smile and asked, "What are you eating? It looks delicious."

While his body moved uncontrollably closer to the barbecue grill, he reached for the sizzling, oily meat skewers on the grill.

This series of actions was perfectly natural, but Mo Shigui still noticed it and smiled as he removed the restless hand.

"Go away, go away, don't you have nutrient solution? Go eat your nutrient solution." Mo Shigui waved his hand to shoo them away.

He'll turn on anyone who tries to take his food.

The other person looked at him with displeasure, "Why are you giving us nutrient solutions? You guys have roasted meat and vegetable soup here, how are the other soldiers supposed to drink nutrient solutions?"

Mo Shigui chuckled, "We'll eat ours, you eat yours. What does it matter to me if you can't finish? Go away, don't think I don't know what you're up to. This bunch of starving ghosts of mine don't even have enough to eat for ourselves, let alone spare some for you. If you want to eat, go get some yourself!"

Anyway, the base doesn't collect the mutated plants and animals that are captured, except for a few high-level ones; the soldiers can deal with them as they see fit.

Whoever is diligent can slowly select and take the materials back to do.

"Hey, Lao Mo, you're really something!" The captain was a little angry at Mo Shigui's attitude.

How could he not know that he could handle those mutated plants and animals himself?

But this large group of people are exhausted after a long day. Who would want to test them one by one and slowly select the ones that taste good?

The captain wanted to get angry, but he couldn't resist the temptation of the roast meat and vegetable soup. He pulled the pretentious Mo Shigui aside and whispered:

“Name your price. My men and I absolutely have to have this vegetable soup and roast meat tonight. Don’t try to fool me. There’s so much food on the back of the truck that even a blind person couldn’t see. Your team can’t possibly finish it all. Hurry up and name your price, and I’ll have my men come and take some.”

Mo Shigui's mind raced, and he stopped pretending.

"Meat is 200 points per pound, and vegetables are 400 points per pound. Points from Taoyuan Base or our Hope Base are both acceptable, at this price."

The captain, shocked, smacked Mo Shigui with a hammer, shouting, "Are you robbing me?!"

Mo Shigui easily dodged the hammer blow and sneered arrogantly, "That's the price. Don't believe me, I can shout out the price and there will be plenty of other buyers!"

The captain gritted his teeth; he believed it.

After glancing at the other soldiers in the squadron who were eyeing them warily, the two quickly and furtively completed the transaction.

Once someone started, the remaining ingredients were snatched up instantly.

The members of the 528 flotilla were getting anxious; they hadn't even had enough to eat yet!

But when Mo Shigui divided the bill among everyone that evening, they all beamed with joy.

Mo Shigui solemnly instructed: "Completing the orders given from above is the top priority. Killing the mutated plants and animals is secondary. Don't put the cart before the horse for a little bit of benefit. Do you all understand?"

Everyone: "We all understand!"

The group responsible for providing cover tomorrow must kill as many mutants as possible!

Zhao Xiaoxiu didn't have her own points card. She held Zhao Gang's points card and checked the newly added Hope Base points, her expression surprised.

She had just sold 60 jin of meat and 20 jin of vegetable leaves and roots, earning 20,000 points, and Mo Shigui actually gave her 20% of that directly.

All things considered, although it was hard work for her teammates to kill the mutants, most of the ingredients they harvested today were picked up by Zhao Xiaoxiu from other squads, so she was definitely the one who worked the hardest to collect them.

Zhao Xiaoxiu excitedly tugged at her father's sleeve, gesturing for him to check the balance on the points card.

You wouldn't believe it, but four thousand points—all from her hard work today!

Zhao Gang pinched the cub's smug face, "Daddy isn't surprised at all, our Xiaoxiu has always been this amazing!"

Zhao Xiaoxiu chuckled. Hearing her father praise her like that, she felt like the cutest child in the universe. Excitedly, she pulled him aside and told him a lot of little things that happened during the day while she was working.

The chattering of children echoed across the campsite.

Perhaps because they felt obligated to help, the members of Team 528 suddenly found the child's words rather amusing and occasionally chimed in, creating a harmonious atmosphere that night.
