Good news, a bicycle has been found.
Bad news, the bicycle chain came off and the tires went flat.
After inspecting it, Zhao Gang confidently said, "It can be fixed."
Zhao Xiaoxiu was a little skeptical, "You can do this too?"
Zhao Gang forced a smile. "The Good Karma Association."
Zhao Xiaoxiu's lips twitched, speechless at her father's words.
Zhao Gang tapped her puffed-up cheek with his tentacle and said, "Smile."
Her smile is like beautiful, colorful bubbles; she's gorgeous!
Zhao Xiaoxiu sighed resignedly and squatted down, "I want to learn too."
"Okay," Zhao Gang readily agreed. He was very pleased with his little one's eagerness to learn.
The bubbles weren't bright, which was a little disappointing.
As the sun set, leaving only a sliver of light, the father and daughter, carrying their bicycle, enthusiastically traversed the small mountain village, searching for the tools and materials needed to repair it.
It wasn't until it was completely dark that the father and daughter returned to the abandoned City God Temple at the village entrance with the things they had collected.
This place is close to the national highway, so if anyone passes by, they will be spotted immediately.
The father and daughter hung their backpacks on a mutated peach tree that grew inside the City God Temple and ran through the entire house.
There were no mutated animal skeletons or human remains under the tree, indicating that this mutated peach tree was herbivorous.
Zhao Xiaoxiu suspected that the peaches it produced had a high probability of low mutation levels and were edible.
Unfortunately, it's not peach season now, so we can only guess.
The father and daughter worked together, dividing the tasks.
Zhao Gang is in charge of repairing bicycles.
Zhao Xiaoxiu was in charge of directing the two blood tentacles to clean the house and prepare her accommodation for the night.
When they are hungry, they drink nutrient solution; when they are thirsty, they drink river water directly from the water bottle.
After finishing tidying up, Zhao Xiaoxiu could no longer resist the exhaustion in her body and fell asleep in bed.
Before going to sleep, I vaguely thought that I didn't get diarrhea after drinking river water today.
Does this mean that her physical functions have improved again?
Without thinking too much, snoring began to fill the small, dilapidated temple.
Zhao Gang reattached the bicycle chain, applied the tung oil he had found, and it spun very smoothly.
The leaky tire was patched with a piece of plastic they found, and the tentacles blew air into it until the tentacles wanted to go on strike.
After struggling for most of the night, the bicycle was finally fixed.
This is a very old-fashioned single-bar bicycle. It has no back seat or basket, but it is of good quality. Despite being damaged by a mutated locust tree for so long, it can still be used after being repaired.
Zhao Gang thought for a moment, then walked out of the dilapidated temple, picked a handful of slightly mutated night-blooming jasmine that was emitting a fragrant aroma, wove it into a wreath, and hung it on the handlebars of his bicycle.
The elderly father stood in front of the car for a while, admiring it, but he wasn't quite satisfied, so he simply stuck all the plastic flowers he had found earlier into it.
Satisfied, he clapped his hands, thinking that Xiaoxiu would be very happy to see it when she woke up tomorrow.
Zhao Xiaoxiu woke up to find a wreath hanging on her bicycle—everyone has a different understanding of art, and besides, he's not even human.
It was seven o'clock in the morning, before the sun had risen.
The father and daughter boarded their brightly colored bicycles and rode out of the small mountain village, heading towards the Taoyuan Base, enjoying the cool autumn morning breeze.
Before setting off, Zhao Xiaoxiu studied the map and found that they were only 220 kilometers away from Taoyuan Base.
At a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, we should be able to arrive smoothly before dark today.
Life in the wild was indeed full of adventure and freedom.
But Zhao Xiaoxiu missed electric lights and clean, filtered water even more.
With 30% battery remaining on her satellite phone, Zhao Xiaoxiu turned on the music player, ready to play a few songs to give her father a boost.
The bicycle, which was moving forward, suddenly braked sharply and came to a stop.
Zhao Xiaoxiu, who was wrapped up in front of her father, turned her head to look ahead and saw a row of wooden fences more than two meters high appearing in the middle of the road.
Immediately afterwards, a group of people wearing ghillie suits and with their faces painted with green paint rushed out from both sides of the road.
They stood inside the fence, guns raised, their intentions clear.
Zhao Xiaoxiu swallowed hard, silently put down her satellite phone, and urged her father to raise his hands in surrender.
Of course, she still had great faith in her living father's abilities.
A mere dozen or so people, and we can easily take them down.
But the prerequisite is to get the other party to put down their gun first.
If things went wrong, she didn't know if her father's body could withstand it—after all, she had never seen him before.
"Get off your bicycles and throw the weapons over here!" the man inside the fence ordered.
Zhao Gang lowered his eyes to look at the cub in his arms who was constantly giving him meaningful glances, and said in a voice that only he and his daughter could hear:
"No one else here will see this except them."
Therefore, he doesn't need to hide the other tentacles.
The group of people in front of him was far more dangerous than the punk youths he had encountered yesterday; he could smell the strong stench of blood all around him.
They killed many, many people.
The atmosphere was tense; the other side could pull the trigger at any moment.
Zhao Gang got off the bicycle. Both father and daughter's backpacks were tied to the bike, and without support, they fell to the ground with a thud.
The only two weapons, a machete and a cleaver, fell to the ground along with the backpack.
The father and daughter raised their hands and walked forward.
The men at the head of the group inside the fence exchanged a glance, a cold smile creeping across their faces. They pointed their guns at the slowly approaching father and daughter and pulled the triggers...
"Bang! Bang!" Two gunshots rang out.
The two men who pulled the trigger inside the fence fell down first.
Zhao Gang frowned, and Zhao Xiaoxiu looked at her father in surprise. They hadn't even made a move yet!
Several more gunshots rang out, and the dozen or so people inside the fence fell one after another.
