Chapter 67 Sowing

Compared to the excitement of clearing the land yesterday, Zhao Xiaoxiu couldn't smile at all today as she planted the seeds.

After experiencing it firsthand, she realized that clearing land was nothing compared to the hardest and most tiring work: sowing seeds!

Turning the soil is just a matter of digging, but sowing seeds requires first digging shallow trenches, scattering the seeds, and then covering them with soil.

After endlessly standing up and squatting down for just one morning, Zhao Xiaoxiu felt her back was so bent that she could hardly straighten it.

"Xiaoxiu, go home and rest," Zhao Gang advised, suppressing a laugh.

Zhao Xiaoxiu's pained expression immediately broke into a smile upon hearing this.

But then she immediately remembered that her father worked very hard all by himself, so she quickly suppressed her expression and said hesitantly:

"There are still so many seeds left to plant, Dad, can you manage all by yourself?"

Zhao Gang was very pleased. He walked over to the little girl, picked her up, and moved her to the side of the rapeseed field. "How about Xiaoxiu stays here with Daddy and cheers him on?"

"Okay!" Zhao Xiaoxiu readily agreed, feeling relieved.

She really couldn't hold on any longer. When Zhao Gang returned to the rapeseed field, she didn't care about the dirt or the mess and immediately sat down on the ground.

Little did anyone know that after Zhao Gang stopped needing to experience farming, his planting speed increased dramatically.

He held the seeds in one hand and sowed them, while using the other hand to transform into tentacles and cover them with soil, alternating between the two, completing one row every few minutes.

"Go, Dad!" Zhao Xiaoxiu's voice rang out, and she became even more energetic.

In less than two hours, one acre of rapeseed was planted.

But when Zhao Gang finished his work and looked back, he saw the exhausted cub lying sprawled on the ground, fast asleep.

Her little face looked like a cat's, her hair was a mess, the hair clip that was pinned to her hair had long since fallen off somewhere, her mouth was slightly open, and drool was running down her cheeks. She was sleeping so soundly.

Zhao Gang finished tidying up his farm tools and came to the little one's side, poking her bulging little belly.

The little one mumbled something, groggily opened his eyes, and vaguely remembered what he was doing. He asked in a childish voice, "Daddy, have we finished planting the rapeseed?"

Zhao Gang nodded and asked her, "Are you still able to walk?"

"Hmm." Zhao Xiaoxiu rubbed her eyes, becoming more awake, and got up on her own, following behind her father.

The sky was ablaze with orange-red sunset clouds.

The father and daughter, returning from the busy farming season, looked at the beautiful sky and felt a sense of happiness welling up in their hearts.

"Dad, we want to plant even more land in the future, and plant all the seeds we can grow at home. Then next spring, we'll have lots of delicious food," Zhao Xiaoxiu imagined.

Zhao Gang nodded and responded with an "Mmm," also looking forward to next year.

The father and daughter returned home, and in the last rays of the setting sun, they took a hot bath, washed their clothes, and hung them out to dry as night fell.

After taking a bath and filling her stomach, Zhao Xiaoxiu was full of energy again.

Lying on the big bed in the bedroom with my dad, listening to his ghost stories, I got more and more excited and couldn't fall asleep at all.

After finishing their literacy tasks for the day, the father and daughter snuggled under their warm blankets and discussed what to plant tomorrow.

The experts gave the lords five days to plant rapeseed, but Zhao Gang finished ahead of schedule, leaving him with three days to do whatever he wanted.

The father and daughter both remembered the evolutionary fruit and vegetable seeds they had brought back from the temple.

There are four types: pumpkin, tomato, sunflower, and cabbage.

Zhao Gang has mastered Shan Yuan's memories and can easily grow these evolved fruits and vegetables.

He immediately arranged, "Tomorrow we'll find some empty pots and jars to grow tomatoes and sunflowers indoors. We can use the waterproof fabric we bought earlier to build a simple greenhouse so they can survive the winter."

Evolutionary sunflowers are cold-resistant; they can germinate as long as the temperature does not drop below 0 degrees Celsius. They also have a short growing season; if planted in winter, they will bloom the following March.

Zhao Gang said in a low voice, "The evolved sunflower can sing. We can move it to the rapeseed field and let it soothe the mutated rapeseed that is in bloom."

"And there are also evolved tomatoes, which can take root, sprout, and bear fruit in a month and a half, so Xiaoxiu will have vegetables to eat in winter!"

Zhao Xiaoxiu's eyes sparkled, and she showered him with compliments: "Dad, you're such an ordinary little genius at farming!"

When given emotional support, the father instantly becomes highly motivated.

The next morning, I dug the cub out of the bed, dressed it, washed it, gave it a good nutrient solution, took a few pears, and rode my bicycle around Area B to look for usable pots and jars.

After searching all morning, the father and daughter successfully found two large earthenware jars and fifteen earthenware pickling jars on a barren hillside in the east where garbage was piled up.

However, the earthenware jars leak, and the vegetable jars don't have lids.

But it's absolutely wonderful for storing soil and planting things.

The father and daughter worked hard to carry the earthenware jars and vegetable pots home, filled them with soil, and placed them in the open space in the backyard.

The house faces east and receives plenty of sunlight. The backyard is close to the south-facing hillside, making it easier to transplant vegetables to the hillside after spring.

The father and daughter were thinking far ahead; they weren't just thinking about this one winter, but planning for a fruit and vegetable garden in their home in the future.

The jars and pots are ready, but the most important thing is still missing: a greenhouse.

Speaking of which, the father and daughter had only visited the poplar grove on the second day after arriving in their territory, and had never been there again since.

It's not that I'm not interested in those poplar trees, but crossing the river is inconvenient, and taking a detour is troublesome.

In addition, I've been busy with expert training and haven't had time to deal with it.

The house was empty, without a single decent piece of furniture; the poplar trees across the river were the best raw material.

Logging is easy; the axe that Zhao Gang specifically exchanged for before is very useful.

The father and daughter first took a detour to the poplar grove and selected five of the best mature trees to cut down.

However, we encountered a small problem with the transportation.

Zhao Gang could easily lift a poplar tree that was 30 centimeters in diameter and 20 meters in height.

But carrying them back one by one by a detour would not only seem silly, but also attract too much attention.

The greenhouses are planted with evolved fruits and vegetables that are not included in the base's planting packages. If others find out, there will definitely be a lot of trouble.

It's not that people can't know about it, but at least let them earn the first batch of points first.

The father and daughter stood with their hands on their hips on the riverbank, gazing at the wide river surface, lost in thought.

Two minutes later.

Suddenly, a brilliant idea flashed in Zhao Xiaoxiu's mind.

"Dad, what if we cut the wood into shorter pieces, tie them together with rope to make a raft, and let it float downstream?" she asked tentatively.

The poplar grove is upstream, and the water flows downstream. With a little directional control, the raft can easily drift to the vicinity of the pond on the other side—it's perfect.

Zhao Gang looked at his cub with delight, "Give it a try!"

So the father and daughter rode their bikes home to get a rope, returned to the poplar grove, tied together sections of poplar wood cut into 5-meter lengths, made a simple raft, and pushed it into the water.

The father and daughter jumped onto the raft and floated downstream, using long branches to adjust their direction slightly along the way, and successfully reached the other side of the river.

The little flying car excitedly leaped out of the water, thinking that Zhao Xiaoxiu had come to see it.

Its large tail swung back and forth in the pond, creating ripples that spread outwards.
