Chapter 1 Wasteland Farming Game

Huoniu City, the northern outer corner of the city wall.

In the afterglow, Guo Qikai, the squad leader of the outer city guard team, was looking at the roster in his hand impatiently, while the lackey beside him was considerately shining a flashlight.

Guo Qikai was wearing fine armor made of some kind of insect shells, and his complexion was rosy. One could tell at a glance that he had good food and lived a good life.

On the contrary, the dozen or so people standing in front of him were dressed in shabby clothes, their faces were covered in black dust, and sweat marks were clearly visible on their foreheads. They held crude coal mining tools in their hands, and the cracks between their nails were black, and they looked exhausted.

"Li Dagou?"

"arrive."

"Today you dug eleven baskets of coal and knocked over half of them. That's ten baskets worth of coal."

As soon as Guo Qikai finished speaking, the guard standing next to him immediately counted out ten copper coins from the bag and threw them to Li Dagou.

Upon hearing this, Li Dagou quickly took the copper coin with a look of joy and said with a fawning smile, "Thank you, Captain Guo, thank you, Captain Guo."

Guo Qikai ignored him and continued reading from the roster:

When he read the last one, Guo Qikai became a little annoyed and said impatiently:

"Chen Wangping?"

"here."

"You dug thirteen baskets of coal today. Your individual efficiency is seriously out of line with the collective efficiency. I'll count you as eleven baskets, eleven copper coins."

Chen Wangping lowered his head and nodded without saying anything, then raised his hand to take the copper coin thrown to him by the guard.

Although this copper coin is called a copper coin, it is actually made of a special material with a color similar to brass, and has special markings on it to prevent counterfeiting.

After distributing the money, Guo Qikai had no intention of staying. He turned around and walked into the outer city, followed by ten guards, looking very impressive.

Seeing the guards entering the outer city, Li Dagou spat viciously, "Damn it, if you son of a bitch hadn't kicked me, I would have knocked over half the basket."

The people around him also cursed: "Alright, this Guo son won't be satisfied unless he deducts some money. I had bad luck today and was assigned to his subordinates. I have to go to Hong Street to change my luck. Xiao Chen, do you want to come? It's very exciting."

Chen Wangping smiled and waved, pulled down his hood, and walked quickly into the outer city.

The sun will set in more than an hour, so we have to speed up.

A curfew is implemented in Huoniu City. After dark, no one in the outer city is allowed to go out without reason.

Even if Lao Li and his friends went to Red Street to play, they would not spend the money for an overnight stay and would have to go home before the sun sets.

Everyone needs to improve efficiency.

After entering the outer city, Chen Wangping trotted towards the distant street skillfully.

His back passed by hospitals, schools, markets, factories and other familiar yet unfamiliar buildings, and through the crowds of people with different expressions.

Yuanfang Street is a grocery street with all kinds of things and people. It is full of gold diggers, scavengers, secret guards and poor people who are looking for bargains.

When they arrived at the entrance of Yuanfang Street, Chen Wangping lifted his hood to show the guard at the entrance, paid a copper coin, and was then allowed to enter.

After running to Lao Zhang's bunk at the corner, Chen Wangping squatted down and shook Lao Zhang, who was dozing off, and said in a low voice, "Lao Zhang, wake up. How many magnets have you collected?"

"Ah, who?"

Old Zhang opened his eyes, rubbed his face when he saw Chen Wangping, and proudly pulled a heavy cloth bag from the box under his butt. As he opened it, he said, "Xiao Chen, to be honest, no one else in Yuanfang Street except me, Old Zhang, can possibly give you five magnets in one day! These things are very rare nowadays."

In the opened cloth bag were five semicircular magnets of different sizes. The largest one was eight centimeters and the smallest one was only three centimeters. There were some oil stains on them that could not be wiped off, and they were greasy.

"It's only five. Keep going. I'll take as many as you can." Chen Wangping suppressed the joy in his heart and pretended to be calm. He stretched out his hand and took out twenty-five copper coins and handed them to Lao Zhang, and put the magnet into his pocket.

"Hey, kid, the outer city is so small, and the exploration team is about to disband. Who will go out to find you a magnet to play with? Five pieces are good enough. Do you think it's two hundred years ago now?" Lao Zhang picked up the copper coins and put them in the box, then pulled a piece of thatch root and put it in his mouth to chew.

Chen Wangping also pulled a piece of thatch root, chewing it while frowning and asking, "Exploration team? Why did they disband? Didn't they still explore Luocheng in the east?"

"Who knows? I heard that several level four beasts appeared. Our City Lord Tang is over a hundred years old and is probably about to drop to level five. How dare he provoke those beasts? You'd better be careful when mining outside." Old Zhang said with a sneer.

Before Chen Wangping could thank him, Lao Zhang came over again and asked in a frivolous manner, "By the way, do you have any valuables on you? Leave them with me first. If you die out there, I can't let a beast get away with giving away your valuables."

"Yes, good things cannot be given to animals for free." Chen Wangping nodded in agreement and turned away.

After Chen Wangping had walked several steps, Lao Zhang finally came to his senses and angrily scolded, "Who the hell are you talking about! You little bastard!"

"See you in a few days. If you see a light bulb, please help me collect another one." Chen Wangping didn't look back, waved his hand and threw five copper coins over.

After seeing the copper coin, Lao Zhang smiled immediately. He took it and put it in the box happily, thinking about which old friend he should go to get some magnets in the evening.

This Xiao Chen is so generous, I don’t know where he got it from.

After leaving Yuanfang Street, Chen Wangping did not stay outside. He quickly returned to his home at the easternmost end of Huoniu City along the city wall.

After arriving home, Chen Wangping locked the stone gate, lit the kerosene lamp, quickly wiped his body, sat in the house, facing the door and waiting for dark.
