Chapter 23

Chapter 23

"The Hyena Gang still likes to play dirty." He Tianlin spat out a mouthful of sandy saliva from behind the cover. He had accidentally swallowed the sand while rolling on the ground to avoid the bullets. The pain from the broken ribs made him grit his teeth. "Sister Xia, seeing these bastards means we're not far from the restaurant."

The Sixth District Garbage Dump Restaurant was exactly the purpose of their trip.

The Hyena Gang members saw that the two women and one man were just dodging and not fighting back, and guessed that even though they were carrying guns, they probably had no bullets left.

One of the members, wearing high-end sunglasses, boldly stood on the roof of the car, but still used a piece of steel plate to cover most of his body so that he could escape at any time. He excitedly shouted: "Hand over all your supplies, or I will take your lives. I'm greedy lately."

He Tianlin laughed and cursed, "You bastard, you still love to lie. Sister Xia, don't believe it."

Liu Xia leaned over to look at the garbage mountain. The sunlight shining directly down from above made her squint slightly. She already had an idea in her mind.

"I'll count to ten. If you still don't come out, you're dead." The man in sunglasses shouted for a while, and seeing that no one paid any attention to him, he began to count the seconds impatiently, "Ten, nine, eight, seven..."

"I'm here, aren't I?" Liu Xia's voice carried a hint of teasing with her friends. She had actually rushed in front of the Hyena Gang in just four seconds, and the man in sunglasses didn't even have time to react.

"Bang bang!" Two homemade bullets were at their faces, and the Hyena Gang members hiding under the bunker reacted in time.

"The finger bones are so white." Liu Xia turned her head to avoid it. The tip of her boot picked up half of the steel bar and accurately pierced the chest of one of the strong men. When the man fell, his finger bone necklace scattered all over the ground, and his heart was pierced and he died instantly.

Liu Xia crushed the gray crystal in her hand, which only she could see, with some regret. The system still did not prompt her. It seemed that the garbage was too small.

"Fuck!" The man in sunglasses threw the steel plate at Liu Xia. Just as he was about to fight back, he heard a "bang!" and his body fell backwards involuntarily. Blood and brain matter splattered everywhere. Ding Ruotong's sniper rifle accurately pierced the man in sunglasses' forehead.

Finally, the Hyena member took out a glass bottle filled with acid. Liu Xia turned his shoe tip and flashed behind him. He bent his finger and flicked the other's wrist. The huge force made the acid bottle involuntarily out of control and all of it poured onto his head.

Corrosive green smoke floated slowly. Amid the howls of the Hyena members, Liu Xia stepped on the enemy's back and jumped into the air. He kicked the old tires in the garbage dump with his feet. The tires collapsed the pile of car wreckage and buried alive the fourth person who tried to launch a sneak attack.

The howling stopped abruptly. The man was trampled to the point of spitting blood and lying on the ground, dead.

He Tianlin had just climbed up the garbage mountain because he was injured. He had no doubt about Liu Xia's strength. He held his ribs and pointed to the tall building in the distance and said, "Sister Xia, we'll be there after we pass this garbage mountain."

The neon sign of a restaurant in the distance had just lit up. It was a sign made of welded scrapped helicopter blades. The four large characters "Lao Tao Restaurant" stood out brightly against the grayish-yellow sand, making even the setting sun seem dim.

It was transformed from a three-story building built against the mountain. The back half of the restaurant was embedded in the mountain, and the windows and other places were surrounded by a lot of lead products and car wreckage to prevent the invasion of radioactive dust floating in the air. Green vines stubbornly wrapped around the gaps in the restaurant and climbed all over the building.

Within the garbage dump of District 6, this is considered a very complete building that can withstand radioactive dust.

There is also a residential area outside the building, which is converted from dilapidated buildings. Many residents dressed tightly can be seen moving around in it.

There were even many people who had no houses to shelter them from the wind and rain and were covered in dirt. They could only wrap themselves in tattered cloth and gather outside the restaurant, constantly kowtowing to passers-by, as if begging passers-by to be merciful and give them some food to fill their stomachs.

From the exposed areas within the cloth strips, it could be seen that many parts of these people's skin had already decayed and festered, and death was only a matter of time.

Compared to Shen Wanren's beehive or even the Colosseum, this place seemed more like hell on earth.

Liu Xia recalled some conversations he had with He Tianlin when they were still at the Colosseum about why they came here.

"Old He is gone. I was young at that time and had no food to eat. I started out as a laborer helping with cooking, delivering meals, and doing some odd jobs. I was allowed to enter the fighting cages when I was old enough. Although I could die at any time here, at least I wouldn't starve to death or become a piece of delicious meat." The boy's face was covered in blood from the beating, and one of his eyes was so swollen that he couldn't open it, but he still smiled heartlessly as he ate the sticky mixture in the iron basin.

This is also the reason why Liu Xia chose to protect him. She saw the innocence of human nature in He Tianlin. Even under such harsh conditions, the boy still retained kindness.

"Boss, do you want to exchange some supplies? Glucose that has just exceeded its shelf life by 20 years, in exchange for half a tube of anti-radiation medicine!" The boss, wrapped in anti-radiation cloth, looked at Liu Xia and others who were passing by fully armed with warm eyes, as if he saw a big buyer and was extremely enthusiastic.

In the wasteland world, anyone who can equip such a set of equipment is basically not an ordinary person.

The smell of burnt barbecue filled the air. The proprietress leaned against the door frame and smiled sweetly, "Freshly baked mutant rat meat, mutant ant shells, or mutant lizard skin for a skewer."

The shouts of various bartering can be heard from time to time, and this place is like a small market.

"Get out of here!" The man with a mechanical leg kicked over the woman who was kneeling at his feet and begging, and shook up the cloth bag that had slipped off his shoulder.

The skinny child beside the woman hugged her stiffly. The woman held her swollen belly in pain, still trembling as she held the jar in her hand. "Please, please... give me something to eat..."

The man patted his trouser legs, a trace of disgust flashed in his eyes, and he raised his foot to deliberately kick over her can. After watching the can fall to the ground and break into several pieces, he sneered and walked into the restaurant.

The sound of the jar breaking was mixed in the wind and sand. The woman's hand, like a dead branch, was still frozen in mid-air. The raised joints of her knuckles were covered with black blood, which was the wound caused by friction with the ground.

This scene was over in just over ten seconds, and the people around seemed to have long been accustomed to it all, and continued to do their own things as if nothing had happened.

Liu Xia and others saw this scene from afar, and tacitly walked to the barbecue stall and exchanged the mutant ant shells for a few skewers of grilled meat.

The proprietress handed them the packaged skewers with a smile on her face, and said calmly, "You are really kind people, but I can't handle this matter."
