Chapter 088 Shooting a Wild Boar

Chapter 088 Shooting a Wild Boar

Yuan Jianshe was cursing, but Zhou Zhixing was riding on a tree and was watching with great amusement.

I don't know how Yuan Jianshe got spoiled by his grandmother, why is he so bad? A child raised with women doesn't even know how to respect women. Either it's his nature, or there's something wrong with the Wang family who raised him.

It's no wonder Zhou Zhixing is still gossiping at this time. He can sense that Jiang Nan will be here soon. He doesn't want to meddle in other people's business.

I have to say, Zhou Zhixing's intuition was spot on. Jiang Nan had scurried down the mountain, dropped her two children off at the Jiang family's house, and then grabbed the family's hunting rifle and left. The Jiang family lived at the foot of the mountain, so they had some self-defense weapons. She glanced at her cousin Jiang Bai's channel, realizing it was too late to call for help. She stamped her feet and sprinted back up the mountain.

Behind him, Jiang Mancheng anxiously warned, "Be careful! You must ensure your own safety before saving others. Do you understand? Don't try to be brave!"

Jiang Nan responded loudly, but without slowing down at all. She said, "Dad, I know everything. Don't worry."

No matter how frantically Jiang Mancheng and Chen Jinhua chased after him, Jiang Nan didn't dare delay, running up the mountain at full speed. The trees on either side rustled backward, and the wind stung his ears. Jiang Nan didn't dare slow down for a moment, running with a roar.

In less than a quarter of an hour, Jiang Nan arrived at the scene panting, raised his hunting rifle, steadied his breathing, aimed at the wild boar, and pulled the trigger.

It was Jiang Nan's first time using a hunting rifle, so his accuracy was still a little off. Although he fired in time, he only injured the wild boar's left front leg.

The wild boar, as expected of a tough, thick-skinned creature, was hit in the leg, but it didn't slow it down at all; instead, it only intensified its savagery. The boar turned around, roared wildly, and shook the mountains. Like a gust of wind, it bolted towards Jiang Nan. The movement of its massive body was instantly earth-shaking.

Zhou Zhixing quickly jumped down from the tree and shouted, "Eyes, hit its eyes, aim, you can do it."

Jiang Nan missed her first shot and hid behind a tree, preparing to fire a second shot. She took a deep breath, thinking, "I'm going to make it. I'm going to make it."

She raised her gun, took aim, and pulled the trigger. With a bang, the wild boar stopped less than five meters away from Jiang Nan, its head shattered and blood spurting onto him. The surrounding fallen leaves were stirred up by the noise, sending dust flying. Suddenly, everything in sight was blurry.

Jiang Nan was knocked to the ground by the recoil of the gun, his right hand holding the gun trembling slightly.

Zhou Zhixing trotted over, squatted down, and hugged Jiang Nan: "Are you okay? Don't be afraid, the wild boar is dead, it's okay."

Jiang Nan was still scared and his body was shaking. The feeling of being in a desperate situation and on the verge of death was really not good at all.

Feeling the person in his arms trembling, Zhou Zhixing stroked Jiang Nan's back again and again: "It's okay, don't be afraid, touch the fur, it won't scare you, touch the ears, it will scare you for a while. Don't be afraid, we are not afraid."

Jiang Nan chuckled: "You're just trying to appease a child."

She got up from Zhou Zhixing's arms, glared at him, and said calmly, "Okay, I'm fine."

As he said this, he stood up and dusted off the dirt on his body.

Zhou Zhixing smiled: "I'm glad you're alright."

The atmosphere between the two was a bit strange, which made Jiang Huai, who wanted to go forward, hesitate for a moment, but was pulled back by Jiang Bai and Jiang Gui. However, the good intentions of the two did not work. The Jiang family and the villagers who heard the noise came up the mountain one after another, talking a lot, and soon the place became lively.

"Xiao Nan!" Chen Jinhua took the lead and ran to Jiang Nan's side first, stroking her daughter's arms and legs up and down, "Are you okay? Let me see, are you hurt anywhere? Oh, why is your face covered in blood? What happened? Wipe it off quickly, is it your blood? This..."

"Hey, Mom, I'm fine. Look, I'm fine." Jiang Nan laughed and jumped up and down twice, comforting her, "This is wild boar's blood. I'm not hurt at all. Look, I'm fine. I'm fine."

"I'm glad you're not hurt, I'm glad you're not hurt." Chen Jinhua muttered a few words, quickly came to her senses, slapped her daughter twice, and spoke sternly, "What are you trying to do with your ability! You're not a hunter, you know how to use a hunting rifle, and you dare to run up the mountain alone! What would happen to your father and me if something happened to you?! You're our only child, and you can't think before you do anything?! You really make me worry!"

Jiang Mancheng also sternly lectured, "That's right. Today's situation is special, so I won't say much. But you have to be careful in the future and think twice before doing anything. If we don't know what the consequences will be, or if we can't afford the consequences, it's better not to do it. It's not that your parents are selfish, they just don't want you to get hurt, understand?"

He glared at Zhou Zhixing in dissatisfaction: "Xiao Nan is in such danger, and you just stand there and watch without taking any action?"

Zhou Zhixing was very receptive and didn't say anything in rebuttal. He was very obedient.

Jiang Nan scratched his head and hummed in agreement, feeling very happy. "Dad, Mom, it's okay. I know everything. I won't show off again. I saved someone today and killed a big wild boar. Look, the wild boar is fat. Now our team can get a lot of meat."

Jiang Nan began to boast about his achievements, and his words were unanimously recognized by the villagers who went up the mountain.

"That's right, this wild boar is really fat. I haven't seen such a big wild boar in many years. Xiaonan, you are really good. This is it! You are worthy of being a police officer."

"Yes, this wild boar is so fat, our family can get a lot of meat, right?"

"Of course not! I think each family can get at least one or two pounds! Hey, why did the wild boar suddenly come down the mountain? It's been years since it happened."

The villagers talked at once and looked at the educated youth who had come down from the tree and collapsed on the ground in fear.

Tang Xi grew up with her grandparents in the countryside and could climb trees. She had already come down from the tree the moment Jiang Nan killed the wild boar. Seeing everyone looking at her, she hurriedly explained, "We don't know. We were originally going up the mountain to look for mountain goods, but there were so many female educated youth, so we decided to go deeper. Somehow, we ran into a wild boar descending the mountain. A few other educated youth, who couldn't climb trees, had run ahead. Could you please help us look for it? If we get into trouble deep in the mountains, it would be terrible."

She didn't dare mention the roe deer. It wasn't that she was stingy, but they had secretly carried the roe deer down the mountain, clearly intending to keep it for themselves. If the villagers knew, they would definitely be dissatisfied. Fortunately, they didn't know where they had thrown the roe deer when they escaped, and without evidence, they believed the other female educated youth would not say anything.

Sure enough, the other female educated youth didn't mention the roe deer either, insisting they were going up the mountain to look for mountain products. Since everyone could find mountain products, the villagers couldn't say anything.

Hearing that there were still people running around in the mountains, Jiang Mancheng frowned. Seeing Captain Jin coming up panting at the end, he shut his mouth and waited for the captain's decision.

Captain Jin understood what had happened, pondered for a moment, and then ordered, "Everyone, split into two groups. One group will carry the wild boar down the mountain. It's bleeding quite a bit, so remember to clean up the bloodstains. Mancheng, pick a few people to help carry it down the mountain. Sun Jin, Tang Xi, you female educated youth, go back with us. You're frightened and can't help much by staying on the mountain, so go back and rest. Everyone else, follow me. We'll go up the mountain to look for people. The female educated youth are weak, so they probably can't get far."

The villagers nodded. Jiang Mancheng picked three people who had good relationships with the Jiang family and were willing to work hard, and took Jiang Nan down the mountain. Zhou Zhixing said, "Uncle Jiang, Aunt Chen, you go first. I have to follow the captain to find someone."

Jiang Mancheng nodded. Zhou Zhixing was a police officer and couldn't leave at this time. The other villagers didn't dare delay and scattered. Before long, everyone's shouts echoed through the forest.

"The wild boar is dead. Come back quickly to divide the meat."

"The wild boar is dead. Come back, come back soon."

Jiang Mancheng called the few people who stayed behind and began to carry the wild boar down the mountain. Chen Jinhua held Jiang Nan's hand tightly and followed behind to clean up the bloodstains.

No one noticed that Yuan Jianshe was left alone.

It wasn't that everyone was careless; it was this guy who took advantage of the gap between the wild boar being killed and the others heading up the mountain to hide. He knew he had offended others with his careless words, so he didn't dare show up. Seeing that everyone had left, he rolled his eyes and thought of the roe deer that everyone had left behind.

If no one looks for it, then it's his. Fifty or sixty kilograms of meat is all his.

Yuan Jianshe was very proud, thinking that his trip up the mountain hadn't been in vain. Although he hadn't gotten to talk to the pretty young woman, he had gotten a roe deer, which was still a good harvest.

He hummed a song, feeling very cheerful. He bent down, picked up a branch, and started searching with some knocking.

Yuan Jianshe was so proud of himself that he forgot that he was not familiar with the mountain of Xihe'an Brigade at all.

The result of not being familiar with the place was that I got lost not long after I walked out.

I don’t know if it was good luck or bad luck, but I didn’t find the abandoned roe deer, but instead turned to the trap.

The trap was enormous, specially set by Tang Xi to provide a clear path for her prey. The female educated youth were meticulous in their work, and after pulling the roe deer out, they thoughtfully camouflaged the trap again.

Yuan Jianshe, who was lost, had long forgotten there was a trap. Having grown up in the countryside, he knew the consequences of getting lost in the mountains and forests. He was so anxious that he was running around like a headless fly, and accidentally fell into the trap with a clang.

Yuan Jianshe was actually quite lucky. You know, these kinds of traps are usually filled with sharp wooden spikes, and he was incredibly lucky to have dodged them. However, this also gave him a good scare. After falling in, he realized what was going on and broke out in a cold sweat.

"Damn it, damn it, damn it! Who is this wicked bastard who set a trap here? When I get there, I'm going to beat him to a pulp! What a bastard, what a shameless, wicked bastard!"

He cursed and swore, and through his furious outburst, his courage returned. He took a deep breath and began to climb. When he stood up, he realized that his right leg was aching.

It turned out that he had just fallen and broken his leg, and he was so frightened that he didn't even feel the pain. Now that he was no longer afraid, his pain nerves were extra sensitive, and he kept crying out "ouch, ouch".

"Help, help, help!"

Yuan Jianshe began to shout frantically for help. It was getting dark, and he couldn't stay on the mountain alone. He didn't know what might happen.

He was calling out when Ye Chunping, who had escaped, limped over not far away. She couldn't climb trees, and she was being chased by a wild boar, howling and fleeing. She had no idea where she was going, so she didn't hear the villagers' cries.

As the sky gradually darkened, Ye Chunping began to feel scared. She didn't want to be alone in the mountains. She kept walking and walking, and by coincidence, she actually walked into a trap. But how could there be someone in this trap?

Ye Chunping walked forward suspiciously, stuck her head out, and met the howling Yuan Jianshe's eyes.

Ye Chunping: "Who are you? Why are you here on the west bank of the river?"

Seeing that it was a woman he didn't know, she was pretty. Or maybe Yuan Jianshe was just being weird. Even at this time, he still didn't forget to pretend: "I came to the Xihe'an Brigade from the oil field to visit my relatives, and I accidentally fell into a trap. Comrade, please pull me up, I will definitely thank you."

Listen, this sounds familiar, right? Old Wu, who fell into the trap, also said something similar.

It can be seen that there are only a few tricks used by scumbag men.

Ye Chunping's eyes spun around. "From the oil field, aren't they workers?"

Being a worker is good. Workers have jobs and don't have to do farm work. If she married into that family...

Ye Chunping's face was filled with anxiety. She eagerly stretched out her hand and said, "Okay, we are all revolutionary comrades. Comrades all over the world are one family. There's no need to say thank you or not. Come on, give me your hand, and I'll pull you up."

Upon hearing this, Yuan Jianshe was overjoyed. He said that as a man as heroic as him, his luck would definitely be good!

He said happily: "Thank you so much, I know you are a good person as soon as I see you. When I get out, we will be friends. If you have any difficulties, you can come to me, I..."

He stretched out his hand and chattered, but before he could say a few words, Ye Chunping fell down and landed on him.

Yuan Jianshe was dumbfounded, really dumbfounded. What was going on? He didn't even feel his hand being grabbed, and the female comrade fell down. What was going on?

Yuan Jianshe was dumbfounded, but that didn't stop Ye Chunping from raising her head and looking at him with a blush on her face.

Yuan Jianshe: Even though you're looking at me like that, this isn't the right time. It's getting dark, and he wants to get out quickly.

Yuan Jianshe was not stupid, he knew the dangers of being in the mountains at night. He reached out and pushed, but failed to push Ye Chunping away.

Ye Chunping still looked at him, her eyes filled with infinite spring.

At this time, the search team finally arrived here. What a coincidence, it was Zhou Zhixing's team. Although the villagers disliked Ye Chunping, she was still an educated youth in the village, half a villager, after all. No one would watch her disappear in the mountains and die.

"The wild boar is dead. Go back quickly. The wild boar is dead."

Ye Chunping's ears pricked up as she listened to the sound getting closer. She lowered her head and kissed Yuan Jianshe on the mouth.

"Ahhh, what are you doing? Ye Chunping, we're looking for you, why don't you say anything?"

"Why are you making any noise? I'm busy. Okay, Ye Chunping, stop busying yourself and get out quickly. It's getting dark, we need to go down the mountain."

Zhou Zhixing rolled his eyes, thought of something, and asked tentatively, "Yuan Jianshe?"

Yuan Jianshe pushed Ye Chunping away, howling, "Ahhh, it's me, Zhou Zhixing, quickly pull me up! This woman is a hooligan, she's a hooligan!"

Ye Chunping's eyes flashed, and her voice was full of grievance: "Brother Jianshe, how could you do this? Obviously, it was you who wanted to kiss her. Brother Jianshe, didn't you say you would marry me? Otherwise, why would I let you kiss me? Kissing someone for no reason is a hooligan, I know that."

It's like this again, why does he always encounter this kind of thing. Yuan Jianshe was so angry that he howled: "What nonsense are you talking about? What hooliganism? If you are a hooligan, then you are the one who is being played with. Oh my God, why did I, Yuan Jianshe, encounter this kind of thing again. I know that I am very charming, but I can't always encounter this kind of female hooligan. Oh my God, oh my God, please give me some good treatment. I don't even know her..."

Ye Chunping was so angry that her teeth ached. She tried hard to control her voice and complained in a sobbing voice: "Brother Jianshe, what are you talking about? Didn't you praise my beauty? If it weren't for that, I, Ye Chunping, wouldn't let you kiss me so easily. Oh, oh, oh, we're already like this, and you still say that? How can I live like this?"

Yuan Jianshe was so angry that he jumped up and down. Of course, his leg was injured and he couldn't jump up, but let's just say that he was in this state. He was really angry and yelled, "Stop talking nonsense. I didn't even know your name was Ye Chunping. Bah, how dare you frame me, you villain, you..."

Zhou Zhixing couldn't help laughing. Ye Chunping was really cunning. She wanted to rely on Yuan Jianshe and leave the Xihe'an Brigade.

That's right, her reputation in the Xihe'an Brigade is ruined, so why should she stay?

The villagers were no longer in a hurry to rescue the man. They were just enjoying the exchange between the two men. It was a good show, but they were missing some sunflower seeds.

They were so excited to watch that some people started chatting with them. The aunties and grandmas in the team started talking one after another.

"Ye Chunping, are you getting married again? Oh my, that's amazing! These educated youth from the city are really extraordinary. It's only been a year or two, and you've already been married twice. Amazing."

It’s a good thing Jiang Nan wasn’t here. If he were, he’d have to say that this isn’t a matter of whether one is a city dweller or not.

The reputation of the city people must not be harmed.

"That's right, Ye Zhiqing, are you going to have a wedding this time? I don't remember you having one for your first wedding. Are you going to have a banquet for your second wedding? Are you going to have it on our West Riverbank? I'm looking forward to the feast."

"Of course I'll do it. Ye Zhiqing is a city dweller, and city dwellers are particular about how they handle things! Isn't that right, Ye Zhiqing?"

Ye Chunping ignored these people. She was determined to rely on Yuan Jianshe.

"Brother Jianshe, you've already called my name, why are you still pretending not to know me..."

Seeing that it was getting dark, Zhou Zhixing was not ready to continue watching the show. He interrupted, "Okay, if there's anything, we can talk about it when we get back. It's getting dark, and it's very dangerous in the mountains. Come on, everyone, lend a hand and pull the person up first."

The villagers also realized the seriousness of the situation and began to help. Yuan Jianshe and Ye Chunping stopped making a fuss and obediently held out their hands to be pulled up. However, once they were up, Ye Chunping snuggled up to Yuan Jianshe and couldn't be pulled away. Seeing that Yuan Jianshe had injured his right leg, she kindly helped him walk, and Yuan Jianshe couldn't get away.

The two men kept talking all the way, sometimes calling him "Brother Jianshe" and sometimes "I don't know you", which made the villagers enjoy the show to the fullest.

A group of people quickly went down the mountain, and from this direction, they happened to reach the village drying yard. At this time, the drying yard was full of cheers.

It was a wild boar, a big wild boar weighing more than 400 kilograms, almost 500 kilograms.

Even if you skin and bone it, there's still over 300 pounds of meat! There are nearly 200 households along the west bank of the river. You see, each family can get more than a pound of meat.

This is pork, the kind you can only eat during the Chinese New Year.

Although wild boar meat had a fishy, strange smell, in the eyes of the villagers who didn't often eat meat, it was the best thing. No one in the village, adults or children, was unhappy.

Even when he saw Ye Chunping, he smiled, a rare sight. However, when he saw Yuan Jianshe, he couldn't help showing a puzzled look, but he quickly put it aside.

He is just an injured man. There are so many people in their village. How could they be afraid of him?

But Yuan Jianshe shouted, "My uncle's name is Wei Youwei, from the Xihe'an Brigade. I'm here to visit my relatives."

Oh wow, Zhou Zhixing raised his eyebrows, this is an acquaintance.

The villagers looked at the stunned Ye Chunping. Why did this Ye Zhiqing come into conflict with the Wei family?

Look at that disgusting look, there will be a good show tonight.

"Hey, I want pig intestines. Don't throw them away. I like them. Give them to me. I don't mind the dirtiness."

"I don't mind either, but don't think about taking it all for yourself."

"Hey, if you two want it, go ahead and wash it. We won't fight with you. This wild boar intestine is not tasty."

The villagers began to talk about wild boar meat and were no longer interested in Ye Chunping's gossip.

After all, no matter how delicious gossip is, it is not as delicious as real meat.

Zhou Zhixing searched the crowd and saw that the three Jiang family members were not there. He knew that they didn't want to share the wild boar meat and were trying to avoid suspicion. Now that they could buy real domestic pork through the system, they were not so interested in wild boar meat anymore.

Zhou Zhixing said to Captain Jin, "Captain, Uncle Jiang and the others won't share this meat. You guys divide it up. I'm going back now."

Captain Jin rubbed his hands together, "How can this be so embarrassing? Xiao Nan killed the wild boar. I was even thinking of sending someone to fetch them. Look at you guys, why are you being so polite? Even if you don't want the meat, you can just come and have a bowl of the butcher's dish. It's all made with pig's blood and is delicious."

"No need." Zhou Zhixing waved his hand. "We've moved out for so many years, and our household registration is no longer with the Xihe'an Brigade. How can we take advantage of this? I'm leaving now. Captain, you stay here and take charge."

"Hey, hey." Captain Jin was so happy that his mouth was grinning from ear to ear, and he kept rubbing his hands. "Then I'll tell the villagers and let everyone remember your kindness."

Zhou Zhixing nodded and left. Behind him, Wei Youwei ran towards Yuan Jianshe with a frown on his face, looking unhappy.

But Zhou Zhixing didn't care about any of this. He quickly came to Du Hehua and said hello, "Grandma Du, do you want me to help you get home? It's getting dark, so just let Uncle Du and the others take care of you."

Jiang Mantang, holding his grandson Jiang He, also advised: "Mom, you can go back. I'll take care of it. Don't worry, our family will definitely not be left out of the meat."

Du Hehua disagreed. It had been a long time since the village had slaughtered a pig. The last time was during the Chinese New Year. She hadn't seen it for a long time. Besides, she wanted to eat the pig-slaughtering dishes. She especially liked the fresh pig's blood. Du Hehua waved her hand and said, "No, Xiaoxing, you go back. I'll watch the excitement for a while. Xiaonan and the others are at home. Don't worry, Xiaonan wasn't scared and is jumping around."

Seeing Du Hehua was in high spirits, Zhou Zhixing stopped trying to persuade her. He looked at Zhou Zhidao and Chen Xingwei who were watching with great interest on the side, but before he could say anything, they were driven away.

"Brother, go back and see Sister Xiaonan. I've never seen a wild boar, and I've never eaten pig-killing dishes. The team leader asked me to have a bowl too."

"Brother Zhou, don't worry about me. I also want to watch the pig being slaughtered."

Zhou Zhixing shrugged, said no more nonsense, and quickly returned to the Jiang family's yard.

There were only three people in the yard. Jiang Mancheng was sitting at the kitchen door, butchering a rabbit, with river shrimp drying next to him. Chen Jinhua was nearby, picking freshly dug bitter herbs. Jiang Nan was sitting on a small stool, nibbling on a large apple.

No need to think, Apple must have redeemed it in the system mall.

Zhou Zhixing laughed: "Did you go back and pick up the things again?"

Jiang Nan: "Of course, I worked so hard to dig them up, how could I just throw them away? I went to look for them when I came down the mountain, and I found these rabbits too. We'll have one tonight."

Zhou Zhixing brought a stool from the kitchen, sat down next to Chen Jinhua, and began to pick vegetables. "That's great! Uncle Jiang's cooking skills are incredible. I really need to try this bitter vegetable. Honestly, I've never eaten anything like it before."

Chen Jinhua smiled and said, "It's wild, so we just eat it for its freshness. My family of three all likes it."

Zhou Zhixing started talking about Ye Chunping and Yuan Jianshe, which made the three of them exclaim in surprise.

Jiang Nan was shocked: "Oh my god, these two scumbags, are they locked up?"

Jiang Mancheng curled his lips: "It would be better to lock them up. Lock them both up and bring happiness to thousands of families."

This made the other three laugh.

"Don't laugh, I'm telling the truth." Jiang Mancheng began to analyze. "Think about it, given Ye Chunping's current situation, Yuan Jianshe is the best man she can get. She's definitely clinging to him tightly and won't let go. Just wait, tomorrow after get off work, you might see Ye Chunping at the family compound."

The three of them looked at each other and thought, it's really possible.

Just wait and see, don't worry, they are patient.

The four of them chatted while quickly packing up their things and preparing dinner.

Although there were only four of them, dinner was a feast, with rabbit and shrimp, and a bitter vegetable salad to help with the greasiness. Halfway through, Jiang Nan's aunt, Jiang Manping, came back, set down a bowl of scrambled eggs with green onions, spoke to Jiang Mancheng for a few words, and then quickly left in a hurry.

She had to hurry up, as everyone in the drying yard was eating the pig-killing dish, and she had to grab a bowl too.

After Jiang Manping left, Jiang Nan realized that her aunt had come to inquire about job recruitment after the New Year.

The recruitment before the New Year was mainly because of the discovery of oil wells with rich reserves, and the need to supplement front-line workers. Therefore, most of the recruitment was for worker positions, and mainly men.

Things changed after the Lunar New Year. Not only were workers hired, but support staff were also needed, with no restrictions on the gender ratio. However, this recruitment was limited, with only eighty people being recruited. To prevent manipulation, admission was based entirely on test scores. The test papers of the top eighty admitted candidates would be posted on the office bulletin board for one week. If there were no objections, they would undergo a physical examination a week later and then begin work.

"Dad, how's Xiaoze doing with his studies? Will he be able to pass the exam this time?"

Last time, my aunt's cousin Wang Ze failed the exam. Originally, my uncle wanted to give the oil field compensation job quota to Wang Ze. But Jiang Nan reminded my aunt to let my uncle work first, while Wang Ze continued to review and prepare for the exam after the new year.

"That's fine. We might as well give it a try. They're the only two sons in the family anyway. If they can't pass the exam, they can take over their father's job. Don't worry, their family knows what they're doing."

Jiang Mancheng didn't care at all. He waved his hand and sent his daughter away. "Alright, little housekeeper, hurry up and wash up and go to bed. You've been frightened today, so you need to rest well. You don't need to worry about these things."

Jiang Nan snorted and got up to wash up. It was too early; Grandma and Uncle, who had gone to the pig-killing dinner, hadn't returned yet. Since it was getting dark, Jiang Nan, the other two, and Zhou Zhixing naturally decided to rest in the Jiang family's courtyard. They could just get up early and go back tomorrow morning.

The Jiang family had plenty of rooms. In the west wing, Jiang Mancheng's side, there were three rooms, just enough for Zhou Zhixing to sleep in. The three of them fell asleep quickly, not even noticing when Du Hehua and the others returned.

By the time Du Hehua and her group returned, it was already quite late. The villagers were so overjoyed they practically broke out into song and dance. They'd gotten a big boar for free, and after the pig-killing feast, they had to share the meat. They lit torches and kept the party going until almost midnight.

Zhou Zhidao and Chen Xingwei followed everyone else and ate the pig-killing meal. They had already become like a family, so they didn't hesitate to rest in the wing where the second room was.

The next morning, Jiang Mancheng opened his eyes to find voices in the yard. He stretched and said, "I'm up early."

"That's right." Chen Jinhua also woke up. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the watch beside her pillow. "It's not even five o'clock yet. Should we get up?"

"Get up." Jiang Mancheng sat up. "We have to go back to work. Go get Xiaonan, and I'll get Zhou Zhixing. Let's get ready and go."

"Okay." Chen Jinhua was not one to stay in bed. Upon hearing this, she sat up and started to put on her clothes.

Soon, Chen Jinhua knocked on the door of the next room. "Xiao Nan, get up. You have to go home early today. Xiao Nan, be good and get up."

Jiang Nan rubbed her eyes. She had thought she couldn't sleep last night, but unexpectedly, she fell asleep not long after lying down, and slept very soundly. Now, early in the morning, she was particularly energetic and replied refreshingly, "Mom, I'm up. I tell you, I slept very well last night."

Chen Jinhua smiled: "As long as you slept well, get up."

Turning around, she saw Zhou Zhixing had already come out. She smiled and said, "Xiaoxing is up so early. Good, he's more sensible than Xiaonan."

Jiang Nan protested in the house: "Mom, why are you still stepping on me?"

Zhou Zhixing smiled: "Aunt Chen, I woke up a long time ago. I went to bed early yesterday, so I woke up earlier today."

As the two were talking, Jiang Mancheng had already opened the door to the west wing. At the Jiang family's home, both the east and west wings had only one entrance, leading to the main hall. On either side were three rooms separated by a hall. Last night, the four of them slept in three rooms, which was just right.

"Aunt, uncle."

"Uncle Jiang, Aunt Chen, good morning."

"Good morning, uncle."

Chen Xingwei, Zhou Zhidao, and Jiang Huai came out of the kitchen, all in high spirits. Although they came back late yesterday, young people, even if they didn't sleep all night, would still be very energetic the next day. Jiang Huai praised his achievements and said, "Uncle, I made steamed bread in the kitchen. You guys can eat something before you go back."

"That's good." Jiang Mancheng rubbed Jiang Huai's head and praised with a smile, "As expected of you who have a job, Xiao Huai is becoming more and more sensible."

Jiang Huai scratched his head and laughed. Jiang Tong came out of the kitchen and said, "Uncle, I made the steamed bread. You're praising the wrong person."

Jiang Mancheng smiled: "Okay, you are sensible too. Our Xiaotong is now a big girl and is becoming more and more sensible."

As they chatted, Jiang Nan also came out. They quickly washed up, went into the kitchen and stuffed two steamed buns each, then said goodbye to Jiang Mantang and Jiang Manpo. Before leaving, Du Hehua's door was still closed. The old lady had slept late the previous night and had not yet woken up. The six of them did not go in to disturb her and left quietly.

There was no conversation along the way, and everyone quickly returned to the family compound.

Jiang Mancheng and Chen Jinhua rushed to work, but Jiang Nan wasn't so anxious. Their police station had a lot of field work and often overtime, so arriving on time in the morning wasn't a strict requirement.

Jiang Nan, of course Jiang Nan was a little lazy. She changed her clothes and washed her face before opening the door. However, as soon as she opened the door, she saw Cheng Gaigai coming out from next door.

Look at this outfit: a small white flower on the head and all plain clothes.

Early in the morning, when you open the door and meet someone in mourning, anyone would say it's bad luck.

But Jiang Nan didn't think much of it. His eyes widened instantly, and he covered his mouth with his hands, looking frightened. He had seen Old Lady Liu and Old Cheng yesterday morning, and they didn't look like anything was wrong.

Cheng Gaigai must have her reasons for dressing like this, it can't be...

Before Jiang Nan could stop imagining, Cheng Gaigai burst out laughing, reached out and knocked on Jiang Nan's head, and whispered: "What are you imagining? Aihua's grandmother passed away, I..."

Her face flushed slightly as she whispered, "Aihua said I'm the eldest grandson's wife and I have to attend the funeral. I took a special leave today, so please don't tell anyone."

Jiang Nan finally breathed a sigh of relief: "Okay, my god, I was scared to death."

She patted her chest and said, "Don't worry. When have I ever been nosy? But if you go out dressed like this, everyone will know what's going on. Even if I don't say anything, it will spread quickly."

Cheng Gaigai nodded: "I know, I'll keep it a secret for a while. Well, I won't say anymore. I have to go." She looked at her watch, waved her hand, and hurried downstairs.

Jiang Nan shook his head and turned around to lock the door.

Across from the east door, Qiu Pan'er saw Jiang Nan, her face sullen, and she snorted softly. She was in the late stages of her pregnancy, her face had grown larger and more swollen. Her belly was enormous, a testament to her excellent nutrition during her pregnancy. However, because of her enlarged belly, she was breathless even when walking. With Tian Jiaguang's support, she slowly made her way down the stairs.

Tian Jiaguang's voice was very gentle: "Pan'er, why don't you think about it again? You are about to give birth, and Mom is also pregnant. There is no one at home, and I am planning to take care of you during the confinement period myself. If I go to work for you, what will happen to you during the confinement period? Who will take care of you?"

Qiu Paner smiled. Thinking of Jiang Nan behind her, she felt extremely happy, and her voice became louder unconsciously: "Jiaguang, I've made up my mind, so don't refuse. You can go to work for me for the next few months, and I'll take care of the baby at home first. Don't worry about the confinement. We have everything at home, and I don't have to run up and down to the bathroom. I can take care of myself."

She resisted the urge to show off to Jiang Nan. Humph, she had secretly gone to the hospital for a check-up, and this baby was a boy. She was blessed with a boy in one go!

Humph, what’s so great about Jiang Nan finding a job? She got a boy in one go.

So what if Jiang Nan's fiancé has a job? She has a son at once.

So what if Jiang Nan is valued by her leader, she has given birth to a boy.

Qiu Pan'er was so happy that she finally surpassed Jiang Nan. Humph, she couldn't help herself and said loudly: "This baby of mine is a boy! He is the root of our Tian family and must be taken care of. I can't take such a long leave, so I have to ask someone to take my place. You know, some substitutes have ulterior motives and keep currying favor with the boss during work. When I recover and go back to work, there may be problems with my work. I don't want to let those people get what they want. If you go to work for me, there will be no problem."

Tian Jiaguang was feeling quite proud. Although he had initially been drawn to his father-in-law's job, things didn't always work out. His mother-in-law, Tao Meiyu, had unexpectedly found a new talent! Qiu Paner's job might be a bit of a chore, but after getting it, he could trade jobs with someone else. Didn't he see that Jiang Mancheng had already been transferred to the construction team? How could Tian Jiaguang be any worse off?

Anyway, just get the job first.

Besides, he is not bad at all, and the plan is proceeding step by step in the expected direction.

The unexpected, yet not surprising, smooth sailing made Tian Jiaguang feel a bit elated. He suppressed his excitement and still refused, "How about we look for someone else? It's not that we can't find a good replacement, but confinement is so important, and I don't want you to develop a chronic illness later on..."

Qiu Pan'er looked happy and insisted, "Jiaguang, you are too kind. But as the saying goes, you can only know a person's face but not his heart. Who knows what the person we found is thinking?"

Tian Jiaguang suggested: "Your cousins..."

Qiu Paner's face showed disdain: "Don't mention them! If I let them take my shift, my job will be in jeopardy! Instead of letting them take my shift, I might as well give the job to you. You are so outstanding, even if the boss wants to keep you, I will be willing to do it."

Tian Jiaguang said seriously: "Pan'er, what are you talking about? This job is yours, I won't covet your job."

Qiu Paner was anxious: "How can this be considered greed? I'm willing to give it to you."

Jiang Nan was furious when she heard this. She had never thought Qiu Pan'er was that stupid before. How could she just fall into it and not see through it? When she reached the corner of the stairs, she slid past the two of them and ran downstairs in one breath to meet up with Zhou Zhixing.

Zhou Zhixing took the large bag she was carrying and asked curiously, "What's wrong? What's the rush?"

Jiang Nan waved his hand, pulled the person away from the corridor, and whispered what happened.

Zhou Zhixing scoffed, "It's a consensual thing, don't get involved."

Jiang Nan snorted, "What do you mean by consensual? It's clearly PUA."

Zhou Zhixing slowed down his tone and said as he walked forward, "Qiu Pan'er is in high spirits right now. If you intervene, not only will you not be appreciated, but you will also incur resentment. Why bother?"

Jiang Nan crossed her arms, forming a large cross, and said, "Stop it. I didn't say I was going to intervene. I was just complaining. Stop lecturing."

Zhou Zhixing smiled, and the two of them rode their bicycles and quickly arrived at the police station.
