"Fang Yu, don't tell your mother about this, don't tell anyone else."
"Hmm, I won't say. What about Xiling?"
"He went to work, and I haven't been there for the past few days."
"Take a few more days off; it's important to get some rest."
Fang Huahua nodded, her eyes revealing exhaustion.
The next day, Fang Yu told Yu Jihong that school was about to start and that she wanted to play with Hua Hua a little longer. She came over early in the morning to accompany Hua Hua to the clinic.
At this moment, Teng Xiling was still there. "Fang Yu, since you're with Huahua, I won't go. Thank you for your help."
Fang Yu was taken aback for a moment, "No trouble at all, Hua Hua and I will go together."
Fang Huahua was in so much pain in the examination room that she gripped the sheets tightly, her forehead covered in cold sweat, and occasionally she couldn't help but cry out "Ah!" a few times.
Fang Yu stood outside the door, her fingertips icy cold. She had never seen such a scene before, and her throat tightened, making her breath even lighter.
After leaving the clinic, Fang Yu helped Hua Hua and Fang Hua Hua into a rickshaw. A gust of wind helped Fang Hua Hua's complexion recover slightly.
Fang Yu went to buy some stewed soup. The soup was steaming, and Fang Huahua took a couple of sips, her eyes filled with a bit of confusion. "Fang Yu, you two really weren't together?"
Fang Yu nodded gently. "My mom said it's too early and told me I can't be with him. Lei is pretty good; he hasn't made any unreasonable demands, and he himself told my mom that he would respect my wishes."
Fang Huahua paused, her hand holding the soup bowl still, and her eyes slowly reddened.
“I really envy you,” she said softly, “having a mother to tell you these things and being able to meet reliable people. If someone had told me these principles back then, things wouldn’t have turned out like this…” As she spoke, she lowered her head slightly, her shoulders trembling slightly, her tone full of self-reproach, “In the end, it’s all because I didn’t respect myself.”
Fang Yu reached out and gently patted Fang Huahua's hand. "Don't talk about yourself like that," she said softly, remembering her mother's words. "Who hasn't made mistakes when they were young? You just didn't have anyone to remind you, not that you don't respect yourself. Be more careful in the future."
Fang Yu stayed with Fang Huahua the whole time, chatting with her and helping her to distract herself.
Teng Xiling came back from get off work, and Fang Yu felt embarrassed to stay there. "Huahua, you should rest well. If you need anything, just let me know."
On her way back, Fang Yu thought about how painful Hua Hua had been. How could her boyfriend not be by her side when she was in so much pain? If it were her, she probably would have been the one to hold Lei's hand. Why wasn't Hua Hua's boyfriend with her? Was it because she was there? But wouldn't she have wanted her boyfriend by her side even more at that moment?
In the evening, Thor came to see Fang Yu. When he wasn't coming to Fang Yu's house for dinner, he would always go home after work, take a shower, and come over with the scent of shampoo and soap. It wasn't the expensive shower gel sold in shopping malls; it was an old brand that every household used, yet it was so clean that it gave people peace of mind.
Fang Yu liked the smell, and she pressed herself against Thor's chest, "Thor, will you always be with me?"
"Yes!" Thor answered without hesitation.
"When I'm scared, you have to be by my side."
Thor lowered his head and kissed Fang Yu's forehead. "I'm here."
School started, and Fang Dongqiang and He Xiaolei continued their relationship without explicitly stating anything. He Xiaolei still visited Fang Dongqiang's school every Sunday, and their classmates assumed they were a couple. Fang Dongqiang gradually accepted this arrangement, but he never revealed it.
Thor treated his mother-in-law like a visitor, bringing her gifts on holidays and other occasions. Yu Jihong would also invite him over to eat whenever she had something delicious.
As the weather gets cooler, Yu Jihong's shop gets busy again; she's going to restock.
To purchase goods, we would take a special vehicle to the wholesale market at midnight, arrive at the market around dawn, spend the morning buying goods, and return in the afternoon.
Yu Jihong set her alarm and got up. She woke Fang Yu up and told her to lock the door after she left.
Not long after Fang Yu lay back down, her phone beside her pillow started buzzing.
Fang Yu groggily opened her eyes. It was Thor. Still half asleep, Fang Yu answered the phone in a soft voice, "Hello?"
"Baby Fish, did your mom go to buy supplies? Are you scared being home alone?"
Fang Yu rubbed her eyes and glanced out the window. The light from the streetlights shone on the curtains, so it didn't feel dark. "Don't worry, my mom always does this when she goes shopping. I'm used to living alone."
"I'm already at your doorstep." Thor's voice held a hint of smugness. "Thinking you were all alone, I decided to come and keep you company."
Fang Yu was stunned for a moment, then quickly threw off the covers and got out of bed.
As I walked to the door and looked through the peephole, I saw Thor standing there.
Fang Yu opened the door, and Thor came in, closed the door, and hugged her tightly. His fingertips were cool from the night breeze, yet very warm.
