Chapter 23 Green Hats Come in Dark and Light Green
puppy?
Ji Tanyuan named her dog "Little Dog"?
Ji Tanyuan quickly ran over and took the excitedly wriggling puppy from her cousin's hands.
The big-eared dog barked and nuzzled against Ji Tanyuan. The beagle was very beautiful; even as an adult, it was still as beautiful as when it was in its prime, with brown and white fur.
"Mom misses you so much."
In contrast, my cousin seemed somewhat numb, saying, "I'm never raising a beagle again."
Ji Tanyuan disagreed, "She's very well-behaved."
This cousin is Ji Quan, the youngest daughter of Ji Tanyuan's third uncle. She has just turned 18. She is closer to Ji Tanyuan. Ji Quan looked at Zhong Yan behind her and greeted him in a low voice: "Brother-in-law".
Zhong Yan hummed in agreement, glancing at the dog, which in turn looked back at him.
Ji Tanyuan hugged the dog, rubbed her ears, and introduced her, "Puppy, this is... uh..."
“Your father,” Zhong Yan added.
Ji Tanyuan and Ji Quan looked up at the same time. Zhong Yan remained expressionless and said, "If you're her mother, then I'm her father."
The dog's front paws were on the woman's shoulders, unwilling to let go. Its round little eyes were looking at Zhong Yan, while Zhong Yan looked at Ji Tanyuan's gentle eyes and brows.
Ji Quan found the scene quite pleasing to the eye; the two of them gave off a feeling of being in a celestial palace, indulging in extravagance and decadence.
They're a perfect match.
Little did she know that the two had almost fallen out over interests.
Ji Tanyuan and Zhong Yan entered the second private room, and as soon as they entered, all the women inside looked over.
Inside sat Ji Tanyuan's aunts and cousins, but not her third aunt or her mother. The entire family was dressed smartly. Her aunt, Tian Ruomei, held Ji Tanyuan's hand affectionately with a smile.
"Huanghuang, I've finally waited for you. I originally planned to sit at a table together, but there wasn't enough room, so I thought this would be fine too."
Ji Tanyuan had lived abroad for 10 years and was not familiar with anyone except Ji Quan; she only exchanged a few polite words with them.
There's absolutely no need to maintain family ties; she's already satisfied with just keeping things respectable.
Tian Ruomei pulled Ji Tanyuan aside and looked at Zhong Yan, "Zhong Yan, why don't you sit down and have something to eat too?"
Ji Tanyuan declined, saying, "No, I just ate over there."
“Well, Ayan hasn’t eaten yet, Yingying, come and meet your brother-in-law.”
As he spoke, he called to his daughter.
"Hello brother-in-law, I am Ji Ying. We met before. You can call me Yingying." Ji Ying extended her hand to Zhong Yan.
Ji Ying is Tian Ruomei's eldest daughter. She is one year younger than Ji Tanyuan, but they look different. She has double eyelids, smiling lips, an oval face, a ribcage nose, and a beautiful cheek curve. She has had any flaws corrected and is working hard to become a noblewoman.
She felt she was more suitable than Ji Tanyuan, and had a better figure. That's why Ji Yingying wanted to take the initiative to arrange a marriage but was turned away by the Zhong family, simply because she wasn't Ji Qing's daughter.
She was indignant. Was it just because Ji Tanyuan was Ji Qing's daughter? She was Ji Ting's daughter, too.
Zhong Yan looked at the hand outstretched in front of him but didn't shake it. Then he took the dog leash, patted Ji Tanyuan's head, and said, "I'll wait for you outside."
Ji Tanyuan's large family was a chaotic mess, and he had lost patience with it.
She really knows how to keep her composure. He used to think that she didn't understand the young lady at all, but now it seems that she just knows how to endure.
Ji Tanyuan hummed in agreement. Ji Yingying, who had been feeling a bit awkward at being ignored, gave herself a way out: "I'm going outside for some fresh air."
Seeing that this wouldn't do, Ji Quan grabbed Ji Yingying and said, "Sister, no, wait until Sister Tan Yuan leaves, then I'll go with you to get some fresh air."
Ji Yingying was pulled back. She clicked her tongue, looked at Ji Juan with some impatience, and warned in a low voice, "Let go."
Tian Ruomei patted her daughter's back and scolded her, "You're so reckless."
She then pulled her shawl tighter around herself and waited until Zhong Yan left before saying, "Huanghuang, you two seem so distant."
Ji Tanyuan hummed in agreement, "There wasn't much affection to begin with."
She smiled at her aunt, but in front of others, she seemed like a poor daughter-in-law. Tian Ruomei's eyes flickered, and she gave her daughter a look. Ji Yingying received her mother's signal and stepped forward to comfort her, "Won't you be lonely there? I'll come and keep you company."
Ji Tanyuan ignored her words. If it fell to the ground, it fell to the ground. She had no obligation to be polite or courteous.
She walked forward and sat down at the table:
"Let's get down to business."
A dark and hateful expression crossed Tian Ruomei's face as she patted her daughter's back in a comforting manner.
Zhong Yan took the dog out, and the dog was really friendly, just following him around. Moreover, the dog seemed quite familiar with the area.
They led him to the lobby on the first floor, where Zhong Yan's assistant, Liang Zhufu, was sitting on the sofa, seemingly playing on his phone but actually eavesdropping on the receptionist's conversation.
Just now, after he told Chu He that his exile was over, the other person was so grateful that he wanted to thank the emperor over the phone. However, he was still surprised when he heard that the task of redeeming himself was to extract the DNA of Ji Tanyuan's family for testing.
Chu He and Liang Zhufu are different. Liang Zhufu studied hard for more than 20 years before he was qualified to work by Zhong Yan's side. Chu He has been his bodyguard and study companion since a very early time. In terms of working people, he is a lackey and follower. In terms of tacit understanding, Liang Zhufu does not understand Zhong Yan as well as Chu He.
Chu He paused for a moment when he heard this, which was unusual, and then hung up the phone.
Liang Zhufu sighed. Although he came from a middle-class background, he had been able to observe the business dealings behind the scenes of the wealthy and powerful through Zhong Yan over the years. He was still shocked to see their lives and the endless tricks they used. There was always an invisible barrier between classes.
So most people are surprised before they think about things. Chu He is different. Although he is a big guy without brains, he has seen the world and is not surprised by anything.
Just as he was marveling at this, he heard the receptionist's voice, "Ms. Ji is here today. Should we let the manager know?"
Another young lady said, "Are you stupid? Miss Ji got married and missed out on the one at the top. What else is there to say?"
"She even brought her husband along. Aren't you just going to upset him?"
"Ah, you're right. I used to think that Miss Ji and Mr. would be together. They were such a perfect match. Who would have thought that things would change so much? One married a man in the north and the other moved south."
Having been transferred from the south to marry a man from the north, Assistant Liang, sitting with her back to the receptionist, had a somewhat cracked expression.
"That's right, those two used to be so close, they were practically about to confess their feelings, and they even picked up a dog from outside. Now look what's happened, the puppy has become a left-behind dog," another person said.
Another person chuckled, "You pity that dog? The clothes it's wearing cost tens of thousands of yuan, which is equivalent to three months' salary for you."
"Stop talking, stop talking, we have guests." So the conversation ended, leaving Assistant Liang to guess.
Assistant Liang was lost in thought when someone kicked him.
Looking up, he saw his boss looking down at him. Even he, a straight man, couldn't deny that his face was handsome, tough yet refined, with a well-defined nose and eyes. Under the lobby lights, he was wearing a black shirt and black suit pants, looking like a male model.
He seems a bit pathetic, oh wait, he was just a lackey to begin with.
He stood up to give up his seat, but tripped over it, followed by a dog barking, which startled him. He looked down and couldn't help but exclaim, "Holy crap, where did this dog come from?"
Zhong Yan clicked his tongue. "Who else could it be? Ji Tanyuan's, my son's."
Then she bent down and looked down, her long, slender, fair hand fiddling with puppy's clothes. "It's a daughter. Why hasn't your mom sterilized you yet?"
Assistant Liang said "Oh," then was shocked. The wife's dog. He remembered the conversation they had just had.
Then he looked at Zhong Yan, his expression hard to describe. "You're a stepfather, yet you still have this daughter and son here."
"Boss, which is more unacceptable, emotional infidelity or physical infidelity?"
Your wife was probably one of those heartbroken couples who were separated before you got married.
Assistant Liang was just reminiscing when he was slapped on the back of the head:
"You fucking know there are different shades of green on cuckold hats, huh?"
