Chapter 50 Ah Yan, are you moved?
Downstairs, only Ji Tanyuan and Aunt Zhang remained.
That's the steward Zhang who was ordered by the "Empress Dowager" to teach Ji Tanyuan etiquette, but was punished by Ji Tanyuan with evidence of her own son's crimes.
Ji Tanyuan took a sip of tea. "Is the old lady very ill?"
She had her suspicions from the moment Zhong Fangqi and Zhou Yanyu started arguing despite the old lady's poor health; the two couldn't possibly be so out of control.
Butler Zhang was somewhat embarrassed.
Ji Tanyuan thought for a moment and said, "I'm not going to say anything."
Then he looked up and smiled, "I just realized that this family is treating me like a fool, and I want an answer."
Butler Zhang sighed, "The old man just wants a way out."
"It's too painful for the old lady, who cares so much about her reputation, to not come back with you and the second young master, so she came up with this way to handle it gently."
Ji Tanyuan nodded, "I understand, thank you Aunt Zhang."
As she spoke, she took off a gold bracelet from her wrist, saying, "Don't let Qian Bo gamble anymore. Keep this bracelet for yourself."
Aunt Zhang refused, quite frightened. The bracelet was solid and thick, worth a lot of money, and if the owner found out, she was doomed.
Ji Tanyuan exclaimed, "You've already started, what are you afraid of? There's no turning back now, and I'm not going to betray you anyway."
Ji Tanyuan withdrew her hand, and Butler Zhang put the bracelet in his pocket. "Young Madam, please don't do this again. I'm scared."
Don't ask, don't give.
Ji Tanyuan hummed in agreement, "No more."
"Actually, I'm quite curious about who raised Zhong Yan. He's different from all of you."
Aunt Zhang thought for a moment, "It's not a specific person, it's the family's nanny."
“When the second young master was a child, the old lady and the old lady lived in the compound with the eldest young master. The master was busy and the lady also worked, so he was looked after by a nanny from a young age.”
Ji Tanyuan nodded. Of course, the second child was not raised as meticulously as the first. Moreover, as the eldest son, Zhong Jing was valued and had high hopes placed on him, while Zhong Yan, as the second son, had more freedom.
As she sat on the sofa looking at her phone, Wen Yi'an came out of the room.
"Grandma wants you to call Zhong Yan in," Wen Yi'an said.
Ji Tanyuan turned off her phone. "Then I'll wait a bit longer? Zhong Yan is still upstairs talking to Grandpa."
Wen Yi'an nodded, then sat down and poured herself a glass of water. "I should apologize to you."
Ji Tanyuan was slightly surprised: "What?"
"I didn't mean anything by saying that you started a film and television company last time. I didn't expect it to cause you and Zhong Yan so much trouble."
Ji Tanyuan: "I thought it was something else. It's okay. I thought you were apologizing for your inexplicable hostility towards me."
Wen Yi'an was stunned, and even began to feel at a loss. "You've misunderstood."
Ji Tanyuan smiled but didn't say anything.
Wen Yi'an is too self-pitying and easily gets stuck on things. Ji Tanyuan understands this and has no intention of communicating with her much. She gets up and goes upstairs. "I'll go call him. Otherwise, Grandma will be asleep by the time it gets late."
Upstairs study
Ji Tanyuan raised her hand to knock on the door, but then she heard voices inside.
The carpet in the hallway muffled her footsteps, and even though the door wasn't closed properly, the person inside didn't hear her arrival.
The door wasn't closed tightly, leaving a crack.
She clearly heard the old man's voice: "You did a great job this time, and together with the Ji family, you delivered a satisfactory result."
There was no response.
The old man continued, "I think Tan Yuan likes you quite a bit, and she's even made concessions for you. Perhaps you could ask her what she thinks."
"We will not pay less money for the acquisition."
Ji Tanyuan's hand fell to the door, her arm even a little numb. She stood at the door, something stirred in her heart for a moment, then returned to calm.
The old man withdrew his gaze, and only after the figure disappeared did he finish speaking and look at Zhong Yan.
Zhong Yanqi laughed, finally it was his turn to speak:
Are you kidding me?
“Grandfather, I think that even if people use any means to achieve their goals, there should be a bottom line. You said that you carefully selected Ji Tanyuan, and that she is much better than the children of other major shareholders of the Ji family. Actually, I think so too.”
"You think she likes me, but that's just a misconception created by her character. In fact, she's very kind to many friends."
Loyalty, compromise, responsibility, and sacrifice—these precious qualities in love are not determined by whether or not one loves or not, but by the character and personality of the other person in the relationship.
The old man stared at him and warned in a deep voice, "Ayan, don't forget the important matter."
Zhong Yan's smile faded. "Isn't managing a marriage the most important thing in life?"
Yes, Zhong Er's mind never plays by the rules. The old man now reasonably suspects that this kid's obedient marriage is actually a sign of lust, and that he has his eye on Ji Tanyuan.
