Chapter 7 The Brilliance of Sandalwood
Even money has to bow to power.
Ji Tanyuan still has patience; she's still very patient. It's just a battle with a seventy-year-old woman, isn't it?
She's just pretending to be innocent; it's not like she hasn't done it before. A small act of impatience can ruin a big plan.
I can't stand it.
Ji Tanyuan stared blankly at the edge of the toast in front of her.
She looked up at the old woman with a serious expression. This was too evil. Did she travel from ancient times?
Are you trying to play the palace intrigue game with her, using the nanny as a spy to monitor her?
Zhou Yanyu frowned and looked at the edge of the toast on the plate. "Mom, what's this?"
The old lady gestured with her lip, "Ask your daughter-in-law."
"Sister Zhang only asked if he liked the food, but she stabbed him in the heart with a soft knife. She has been serving in this family for longer than Ayan."
Ji Tanyuan couldn't stand the word "serve" at all. "She gets paid."
The old woman sneered, "You think you can bully people just because you pay them? So your company is like that too? Exploiting the working class at will?"
"That's too much of a accusation," Ji Tanyuan said, her smile fading. She leaned back and looked up at the nanny, who was wiping away tears. "Aunt Zhang? Did I bully you? To be honest, Aunt Zhang is getting on in years, she might not be able to keep up, and she might feel tired. Perhaps she could retire and I could hire someone else."
"No wonder Zhong Yan doesn't allow the servants to live at home. If they did, our shared room situation might be recorded in your daily log."
Zhou Yanyu coughed twice and choked. Ji Tanyuan really had no restraint. She remembered that he was quite gentle and obedient when she first married him. Could he have caught Zhong Yan's bad temper?
Ji Tanyuan's gentle words really angered the two elderly people. The old lady Jiang Qiufen's mouth was slightly crooked. Zhou Yanyu was shocked and hurriedly ordered someone to get medicine and asked Ji Tanyuan to apologize.
Ji Tanyuan stood up. "Grandmother, are you alright? I spoke too harshly. Please forgive me, a junior, for my mistake."
"I will definitely follow my mother's lead and learn how to be a qualified daughter-in-law of the Zhong family."
Aunt Zhang: "Grandma, why are you angry with me? The young mistress is right, I'm getting old and it's time for me to retire."
The old lady, her breath caught in her throat, leaned back on the sofa. Ever since Ji Tanyuan had disrespected the tea ceremony and instigated Zhong Yan to go against her, she had known that this man was someone she had married to bring her misfortune. He appeared gentle and obedient but was actually spoiled and mean-spirited.
She wouldn't rest in peace until she had thoroughly disciplined Ji Tanyuan.
The old lady waved her hand and said, "Take Zhang back with you. If you really want to change, listen to Zhang from now on and let her teach you how to be a humble and polite lady."
Ji Tanyuan straightened up and nodded, "Okay."
As if entrusted with a heavy mission, Aunt Zhang looked serious, almost as if she had made a solemn pledge. "Grandma, don't worry, I won't lecture you. I'm just an employee, but I will offer some suggestions."
As Zhou Yanyu watched the person leave, she looked down at the old lady again, rubbing her temples. Her mother-in-law was really getting more and more difficult, but as long as she didn't look at her directly, it would be fine.
——
——
Zhong Yan will be home in three days. He has been away at a meeting in another city for the past three days, working non-stop. This is the only day he got off work early.
He returned home to a quiet house.
When Aunt Zhang saw Zhong Yan return, a smile appeared on her tired face. She stepped forward to take the clothes and asked, "Young Master is back?"
Zhong Yan noticed Aunt Zhang's expression and asked, "Are you feeling unwell?"
Aunt Zhang's smile froze for a moment. "Young master, I'd like to ask how Qian Xiaobo is doing lately?"
Qian Xiaobo is Aunt Zhang's son. He works as a junior manager in a branch of Zhongheng Group. He earns a high salary and has a mother who has worked for the Zhong family for many years. He can live a comfortable life in Yanjing.
Zhong Yan raised an eyebrow. How would he know? He then casually replied, "It's fine."
What could possibly happen? It's just that they're giving this person a meal out of respect for the old lady; he won't have access to the core industries.
But Aunt Zhang didn't know that the day before yesterday, Ji Tanyuan took out a document containing the outrageous things her son had done, which terrified her.
She was afraid the Zhong family would find out. Who knew what Ji Tanyuan would say about the Zhong family? She didn't care; she only cared about what she would say to the old lady later.
To be honest, Ji Tanyuan was cold and mean that day, perfectly portraying the arrogant and cowardly behavior of a spoiled young lady who bullies the weak and hides from her superiors, leaving even Aunt Zhang, who was originally standing tall, completely bewildered.
Ji Tanyuan also watched as Butler Zhang called his son Qian Xiaobo to verify the information, saying that the Zhong family would not cover it up. The old lady might, but if it really involved the interests of the Zhong family, Mr. Zhong, who was in charge, would definitely not agree.
Would Steward Zhang still dare to complain? Of course not. Not only would he not dare, but he would also keep it a secret from the old lady, telling her that the young mistress was seriously learning family social etiquette and that he would no longer be extravagant or exploit her.
Butler Zhang thought to himself, "Why don't we go back to the old lady's side? She doesn't care about triple wages anymore. Staying here is nerve-wracking. This lady seems gentle and kind on the surface, but she's actually quite cunning."
Anyway, she can't retire, because if she really retires, the Zhong family will be gone.
Unfortunately, Ji Tanyuan wouldn't allow it, saying that even if she left, the old lady would still try to find other people, and she would have to put in the effort to train them, which was too troublesome.
Finally, Zhong Yan returned. Aunt Zhang rubbed her hands together, and Zhong Yan noticed her unease. "Auntie, is there something you want to ask me? Is it because you didn't get along with Tan Yuan?"
Aunt Zhang waved her hand, "No, it's just that I'm a little overwhelmed and afraid I won't be able to take good care of my wife."
Zhong Yan waved her hand, "Don't worry, she has a good temper."
Aunt Zhang pursed her lips. "It's very good."
Zhong Yan didn't delve into her words. "You can arrange for them to leave work. I'll take her out for dinner tonight."
Zhong Yan pushed open the door. The curtains were drawn, and Ji Tanyuan was sleeping in the middle of the bed, wearing an eye mask.
He rolled up his shirt sleeves and folded them under his elbows, revealing his narrow waist, broad shoulders, and long legs. He stood by the bed, hands on his hips, looking at the person on the bed with an inscrutable expression.
Then he knelt on one knee on the bed, bent over, and smoothed the person's hair.
An eye mask covered her eyes, revealing only the lower half of her face with its smooth and delicate lines. Her sexy lips looked even more alluring, making one want to kiss them.
Black hair and red lips...
He gently touched her beautiful lips.
"Ji Tanyuan, I went to Shanghai and ran into your childhood sweetheart."
He actually found out his wife's nickname from her childhood friend; it's utterly disgusting.
Ji Tanyuan was awakened by a kiss. She raised her hand to remove the eye mask, but was stopped.
"Wearing it." The voice was hoarse.
Immediately afterwards, she felt someone kiss her eyes through the silk blindfold. "So beautiful."
Especially when lying in bed with your head tilted back.
Absolutely gorgeous.
He calls you Huanghuang; that was your nickname before.
The poem "Da Ming" contains the line "The fields of Muye are vast, and the sandalwood carriages are magnificent."
The sandalwood is radiant, bright, brilliant, and vibrant.
She certainly deserves it.
