Chapter 30: The Road Ahead Has a Direction

Even after Lu Dashan left, he could still faintly hear laughter coming from the courtyard.

Knowing that Lu Daishu would be taking the preliminary examination for children in a few days, he knew that if he passed, he would become a junior scholar, and if he failed, he would not pass. Daishu was only 14 years old, so this exam was more about testing his abilities and boosting his confidence, but he still needed to make the necessary preparations.

You need to spend money to find a good scholar to guide you, and you need to prepare enough money to pave the way; studying is a money-consuming endeavor.

Where does the money come from?

Lu Dashan turned around again, his gaze falling on the small courtyard where Su's mother lived.

There's always a way. If all else fails...

Su Jiaoniang spoke with Xiao Changsheng for a while, and Xiao Ya and Fu Tu returned to their small home one after another.

Hearing the two talking about building a house, Xiaoya and Futu were very happy. Building a house, getting married, and having children are all big events in the village, and people will get busy whenever someone has something to do.

Children naturally love excitement, and they fully supported Su Jiaoniang's decision at this moment.

Su Jiaoniang saw Xiaoya going to the kitchen to help Changsheng and thought that she would have to eat a light meal again that night.

The next morning, Su Jiaoniang followed Futu to the county town.

Over time...

The children who were secretly abducted by human traffickers have been taken back by their parents.

However, a few people remained at the county government office.

Su Jiaoniang walked into the yamen and saw several children lying on the sickbed. Some had broken leg bones, some were missing arms, and some had scars all over their faces. At first glance, the scene was quite tragic.

These children originally had a healthy future.

If you are abducted, tricked, or simply knocked unconscious and taken away by human traffickers, your life will change drastically.

If she had discovered it a day later, and if no one had tipped her off, what would have become of the little Buddha?

Just thinking about Su Jiaoniang makes it unacceptable.

She looked at the children lying on the bed or leaning back in the chair with their eyes vacant, and her heart clenched slightly.

Dr. Liu sighed, tugged at Su Jiaoniang's sleeve, and pulled her out: "What do you think we should do with these children? The people at the county orphanage think these children are physically disabled and don't want them. Some of their parents have been here before, but when they saw the children like this, they didn't want to take them home and secretly slipped away."

Su Jiaoniang didn't know what to do either! But seeing the numbness and pain in the children's eyes, she couldn't bear it.

“If the county’s orphanage won’t take them in, then we’ll build a new orphanage for the disabled and orphans.” He touched the fifty taels of silver he was carrying.

Su Jiaoniang felt a pang of heartache; building such a courtyard and raising these children would require considerable costs.

But if she doesn't care, what will become of these children's future? They probably won't have a future at all.

Now that the person has been rescued from human traffickers, it's only right to see it through to the end.

Looking at the little Buddha behind her, Su Jiaoniang explained her plan. The little Buddha paused for a moment, staring at the fifty taels of silver that Su Jiaoniang had taken out: "Mother, if you think it's okay, then it's okay. I have no objections." He said with a shy smile.

Sure enough, Su Jiaoniang was delighted to hear this, so she picked him up and gently kissed his little face.

Fu Tu felt that he had somehow mastered the secret to winning his mother's favor.

Of course, at that moment he didn't understand why he had to try so hard to please people.

Seeing Su Jiaoniang happy, he seemed to be happy too.

The child reached out and covered his heart, feeling that the sensation was strange.

Su Jiaoniang touched the money pouch in her hand: "Don't worry, Futu, I know what's important. I'll do good deeds, but I won't put myself in a difficult situation." After saying that, she went back into the house and told Doctor Liu about her plans.

Doctor Liu's eyes showed surprise: "Girl, this is no small matter. If you take over the task, you have to take good care of the person. You can't give up halfway, otherwise..."

These children cannot bear the thought of being abandoned again.

If you live in the abyss, you'll stay in the abyss forever, and your days will pass by in a dull, dark, and indifferent way. But if you see the sunlight and beauty, and are then thrown back into the abyss, you'll probably go crazy. No one can withstand such torment.

"I know what I'm doing." She might just be the Virgin Mary.

But faced with these children who had done nothing wrong yet suffered such torment, she simply couldn't bring herself to abandon them. Dr. Liu didn't continue to persuade her; he knew that such kind people were rare, and having even one in his life was extremely precious.

She made the decision, and he supported it. After all, it's unacceptable for an old man who has been practicing medicine for half a year to be less insightful than a woman.

Su Jiaoniang took over the management without hesitation. She left the government office and bought a house outside. The house was far from the inner ring of the county town, and houses in the suburbs were cheaper. Even so, it cost Su Jiaoniang nearly twenty taels of silver. She also replaced the furniture inside, and in total, she spent twenty-two taels of silver. Su Jiaoniang breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, the remaining money was enough to rebuild her own house.

We bought brand new bedding and put it in several rooms.

Su Jiaoniang felt that her own home was far inferior to these.

However, she couldn't settle all the children in the village. Firstly, there was a lot of gossip there, and secondly, the living conditions in the village were too poor. If she settled them there, something might happen if she couldn't take care of them.

These children need follow-up medical care and education, and they are older than the younger children; they cannot be delayed.

"Futu wants to live here?" Su Jiaoniang cleaned the courtyard and looked at the house, which was much better than the one in the countryside. She herself wanted to move here.

Fu Tu shook his head: "Home is where my mother and sister are. My mother will stay by my father's grave, and I will not leave."
