When Myne heard this, she was first taken aback, then her eyes widened in surprise, and she asked anxiously, "Does that mean the old man has already passed away?"
She found the answer in Jiang Yilai's eyes, and couldn't help but feel a little sad.
Although things didn't go as planned, Old Mrs. Gu truly doted on her back then.
The affection she had never experienced was all given to her by the old lady.
Now, she has been murdered by her boyfriend by a twist of fate, and she is finding it hard to accept.
"It's all that wicked woman Gu Nianqiang's fault. She made me impersonate this persona in the first place. I just wanted to stay peacefully in the Gu family, but she was the one who kept stirring things up behind my back."
Jiang Yilai watched her shirk responsibility quietly, and said coldly, "Did she threaten you with a knife to your throat?"
Maine was speechless for a moment, then angrily declared.
“I admit I’m guilty of this. I should have listened to her and done this. That night we just wanted to get revenge on her. We never thought she would push the old man over to take the knife for us.”
These images flashed through Jiang Yilai's mind, and she felt even more resentful.
Mei Yin also said, "My boyfriend said he never intended to hurt the old lady. It was Gu Nianqiang who pushed her. And when he ran away, he saw that the old lady was still able to stand steadily."
He said he ran to the balcony and looked back to see Gu Nianqiang arguing with the old lady, and that Gu Nianqiang was forcefully pushed to the ground. This, he claimed, was the real cause of her death; she was the murderer.
Mei Yin admitted to everything she had done, but if they were to accuse An Jia of the same crime, then Gu Nianqiang would be even more unforgivable.
Each time she heard it, it was another layer of hurt for Jiang Yilai.
"In short, none of you will escape."
Dejected, Myne said helplessly, "Anyway, it's come to this. I've done enough in my life, this is my fate."
Jiang Yilai stood up to leave, but Mei Yin called her back.
“Attorney Jiang, you are a good person. I want to apologize for what I did in the past.”
Jiang Yilai left without responding; making them suffer punishment didn't make her any happier.
The person she missed will never come back.
When Jiang Yilai walked out of the prison, she felt extremely tired. If this continued, her mental health would suffer.
Jiang Yilai went home and lay down until evening, when she vaguely heard bursts of laughter that woke her up.
She went out onto the balcony and saw Fu Nanxiao playing games and frolicking with his two children.
Since the passing of Old Madam Gu, she has not spent much time with her children; Fu Nanxiao has been the one taking care of them almost all the time.
As she walked downstairs, she overheard Jiang Wenchao asking a question.
"Dad, when can Mom play with us? I want to make Mom happy."
"Me too. I've prepared a gift, but when can I give it to her? What if Mom wants to play with us too?"
Fu Nanxiao carried one child in each arm and gently explained, "Your mothers have been very tired lately and need to rest more. She'll be happy if we don't disturb her."
Jiang Wenxi hung her head and said, "But I miss my mom so much. When she was home, she would see us off in the morning and play with us after school."
Even now, Jiang Yilai is at home every day, and her children rarely see her. She's practically never at the dinner table, so of course the children miss her.
Fu Nanxiao wanted to give her ample time to process these things and eliminate anything that might interfere with her.
