"Good, I've really raised a good grandson."
Grandpa Fu did not get angry; his voice was emotionless and seemed to genuinely praise Fu Nanxiao.
Yet it inexplicably terrifies people.
He said heavily, "You've done so much for a woman, at least let me know if it's worth it."
Fu Nanxiao's expression remained unchanged: "Of course it's worth it."
"Is that so?" Old Master Fu's gaze fell on Jiang Yilai again. He slightly raised his chin, and a businessman's shrewdness shone in his slightly aged eyes: "What capital do you have?"
Jiang Yilai suddenly felt nervous.
Fu Nanxiao frowned: "Grandpa..."
Jiang Yilai tugged at him.
If he continues to protect me, I'm afraid I'll have an even harder time getting past Old Master Fu.
Jiang Yilai took a step forward, suppressing her anxiety and maintaining a natural and generous expression: "Grandpa, I am currently just a junior law student at Peking University. I have already confirmed that I will be interning at Jinghe. I did buy the Jiang's Building with Nan Xiao's help, but that's because the Jiang's Building is an inheritance left to me by my mother. I am currently paying back the 300 million yuan to Nan Xiao in installments."
She paused for a moment, then said, "Grandpa, Nan Xiao is the grandson you raised yourself. I think you know his personality better than I do. He wouldn't break Uncle Fu's leg for no reason. When I was kidnapped, I wasn't unharmed as Uncle Fu claimed. I almost lost my life and stayed in the hospital for more than half a month."
“I think Nan Xiao was so angry not only because we are husband and wife and he felt sorry for me, but also because he never expected that his closest relative would do something to his wife for money. It’s heartbreaking and disappointing.”
Her words were neither humble nor arrogant, and she subtly shifted the blame back onto Fu Jiang and his son.
Fu Jiang's face immediately turned red: "You're talking nonsense..."
"Shut up!"
Old Master Fu's deep, cold rebuke made Fu Jiang swallow his words immediately.
But he glared fiercely at Jiang Yilai, as if he wanted to devour her whole.
Jiang Yilai didn't even look at him.
Old Master Fu didn't say anything to her, his gaze turning directly to Fu Nanxiao: "Do you think she's worth it?"
Fu Nanxiao's gaze was firm, and without the slightest hesitation, he said in a deep voice, "It's worth it."
Jiang Yilai's heart skipped a beat.
She could feel the warmth and reassurance in Fu Nanxiao's hand as he held hers.
A warm feeling rose in her heart.
But the next second, she heard Old Master Fu's sarcastic remark, devoid of any emotion: "What makes you so confident in saying those two words? Being a law student at Peking University sounds impressive to ordinary people, but what does that mean to a family like ours! Countless undergraduates go for interviews at Fu's every year, but how many are actually hired?"
Old Master Fu's belittling remarks instantly plunged Jiang Yilai's mood to rock bottom.
She stared at Old Master Fu in astonishment.
Old Master Fu didn't even spare her a glance. He looked at Fu Nanxiao and said things without any regard for her presence.
He continued unhurriedly, "What does Jinghe's internship amount to? Did he rely on his own abilities or on Mrs. Fu's name? Not to mention the Jiang's Building, which was bought with our Fu family's money. Do you think you can take it for yourself just because you say 'return'?"
A buzzing sound went through Jiang Yilai's mind.
She felt all the blood rushing to her face, and within seconds, her face was flushed and dripping with blood.
