Everyone looked up at the sound and gazed at Ye Ningwan amidst the flickering light and shadow.
She was wearing a champagne-colored silk nightgown, the straps of which were hanging loosely on her shoulders from running, almost falling off.
She was slender, and at 165 cm tall, she was neither too tall nor too short in a crowd, but her proportions were excellent. Her long legs were shapely and smooth. She had lost one shoe while running too fast, and her bare foot was now curled up nervously, revealing her cute, slightly red toes.
Her unmade-up face showed a hint of confusion from just waking up and panic at not being able to find anyone beside her.
The phrase "both innocent and alluring" perfectly describes Ye Ningwan.
There were other people in the living room, and many of their eyes were fixed on Ye Ningwan, unable to look away.
Pei Fengzhi pursed his brows, stood up, and quickly walked towards the stairs.
How did you get out?
Everyone in the living room was stunned. Only Firefox snapped the cigarette between his fingers, stood up abruptly from the sofa, and stared intently at Ye Ningwan, who was standing in the middle of the stairs.
"How come there's a woman here?"
Although Firefox's voice wasn't loud, it rang out clearly in the silent hall, reaching everyone's ears.
Ye Ningwan frowned, saying nothing, but also staring at the woman opposite her. The two sized each other up.
Within seconds, Pei Fengzhi had walked to Ye Ningwan's side, taken off his coat and wrapped it around her, glanced at her unhappily, and lectured her.
"Why didn't you put your clothes on properly before coming downstairs!"
The clothes that had been draped over Ye Ningwan's shoulders quickly fell off again, looking so ill-fitting. Ye Ningwan ignored it, letting it fall to the ground, and even lowered her eyes to reveal a hint of disgust.
Pei Fengzhi knew she was throwing a tantrum, so he reluctantly picked up his coat from the ground, wrapped it around Ye Ningwan, and then half-embraced her.
Ye Ningwan struggled for a moment, but Pei Fengzhi's strength was too great, and she was unable to break free.
Ye Ningwan pouted, clearly showing her displeasure.
"Did I bother you, that's why you're unhappy?"
Pei Fengzhi stared into Ye Ningwan's eyes, a slight smile playing on his lips, his dark eyes carrying a hint of mockery as he asked.
"Are you...jealous?"
Ye Ningwan slapped away Pei Fengzhi's hand that was about to pinch her face, rolled her eyes at him, and said coolly.
"There's no such thing as a lot of vinegar to eat every day. If you find me annoying, I'll just leave. I was also woken up in the middle of the night by noises downstairs, and I thought a thief had broken in."
After saying that, Ye Ningwan turned to leave.
Pei Fengzhi quickly pulled her back into his arms.
"It's my fault for waking people up. I apologize."
As he spoke, he looked down and noticed that Ye Ningwan was missing a shoe, and asked again.
Where did your shoes go?
Upon hearing this, Ye Ningwan became even more furious.
"You still have the nerve to ask me? I got up and found you were gone, and it was like a battle was raging downstairs. I was only rushing down to check on you because I was afraid something had happened to you!"
Hearing her say that, Pei Fengzhi felt a warm current welling up in his heart, a warmth that touched his very soul.
The feeling of being cared for was something he had never experienced before, making him feel that he was no longer a lonely person who was afraid of others but no one loved him.
"It's all my fault, don't be angry, I'll hug you."
As Pei Fengzhi spoke, he buttoned up her suit jacket one button at a time, and then picked her up in his arms.
Ye Ningwan struggled a few more times in a coquettish manner, but when she couldn't break free, she glared at Pei Fengzhi with a look that was both angry and reproachful, and then snorted coldly.
Pei Fengzhi felt a sweet warmth in his heart despite being glared at like that, and just wanted to laugh.
Ye Ningwan was lighter than expected. Princess Pei Fengzhi carried her and carefully walked down the stairs step by step, as if she were holding an extremely precious treasure, unwilling to break even the slightest bit of her.
The two talked on the stairs for a while, and Pei Fengzhi's actions and expressions were like a hard slap in the face to Huohu, making her face turn pale and then red.
She clenched her fists, gritted her teeth, and stared at the two people walking towards the sofa. She held back the question that was about to slip out and tried to ask in a relatively normal and gentle tone.
"Boss, who is this?"
Pei Fengzhi placed Ye Ningwan on the sofa. The bodyguard had already brought over another pair of slippers. Pei Fengzhi squatted down, knelt on one knee, lifted one of Ye Ningwan's feet, wiped the dust off the sole of her foot with a tissue, and then put the slipper on her. He then changed the other shoe as well before standing up.
"This is my newlywed wife."
Firefox nearly ground its back teeth to dust.
She never dreamed that Pei Jiuye, who always looked down on women, would one day condescend to kneel on one knee at a woman's feet and so gently put on her shoes.
If... if that's the case, then all those years of waiting and getting close to him seem like a joke.
It turns out that Pei Fengzhi wasn't without feelings; it's just that his feelings never stayed for himself.
In that instant, Firefox felt that all those years of time and unrequited love had become laughable.
She looked at Pei Fengzhi with teary eyes and asked in a hoarse voice.
"Pei Fengzhi...you...you're married? When did you get married? Why didn't you tell me you were married?!"
