Chapter 189, /.

Ye Ningwan didn't say anything, just listened quietly; it wasn't her turn to speak yet.

Madam Pei rambled on and on, but in reality, she said nothing at all. She took the art of rambling to the extreme and didn't offer Old Master Pei a single solution to the problem.

Or perhaps, she only had one purpose in mind, but dared not say it openly.

Sure enough, after Madam Pei finished speaking, Old Master Pei merely lifted his eyelids and gave her a cold glance.

Bang!

Grandpa Pei slammed the teacup in his hand onto the coffee table, splashing tea everywhere.

"You keep saying it's difficult and impossible, and you're constantly praying to gods and Buddhas and performing rituals to pray for blessings. Who taught you to talk like that?"

Madam Pei shrugged, lowered her head, and said with difficulty.

"Dad, this is really difficult to handle. After all, it has already blown up. Even if you scold me or hit me, there's nothing I can do!"

As they were speaking, Pei Minghan stepped forward and shielded his mother behind him.

"Grandpa, I know you're angry, but it was Uncle Jiu who made the mistake. Even if you scold my mom again, it won't help!"

Old Master Pei snorted coldly and pointed at Madam Pei, shouting.

"I just can't stand her smug look on her face. Do you really think I can't understand what you mean?"

"You really think I can't tell who you are?"

Madam Pei quickly lowered her head and said, her voice choked with sobs.

"Dad, I was wrong. I will never do it again."

The eldest daughter of the Pei family glared reproachfully at Madam Pei, while trying to soothe the old master Pei's anger and offering some words of comfort.

"Dad, don't be angry. My sister-in-law has always had this temper. She's not a bad person, she's just sharp-tongued. You're not feeling well, be careful you'll have to take your medicine again soon."

Old Master Pei let out a breath and spoke earnestly to Madam Pei.

"How many times have I reminded you over the years that members of the Pei family should help each other, and brothers should care for each other? We are a large family, and as long as there are no internal conflicts, this family can continue to prosper. But what have you been doing all these years!"

Grandpa Pei rubbed his forehead.

"This is so frustrating!"

Madam Pei mumbled, her eyes half-closed.

"I was just too angry for a moment. Just now at the gate of the house, Lao Jiu's wife came up and started cursing me as a dog without saying a word. She said the most nasty things I could. That's why I couldn't help but say those things. I really know I was wrong."

Upon hearing this, Old Master Pei glanced at Ye Ningwan, who was standing in the corner.

"Did you insult your sister-in-law?"

Ye Ningwan looked completely innocent and made a quick decision.

"No."

She uttered only two words, without any further explanation, her eyes clear and unwavering, looking directly at Old Master Pei.

Grandpa Pei didn't ask any further questions and nodded.

"Um."

It's impossible to tell whether he believes it or not.

Madam Pei was furious and was about to say something when Ye Ningwan spoke first.

“Dad, please don’t scold my sister-in-law yet. She probably doesn’t know how to resolve Ninth Master’s matter either. I think everyone is gathered here today to see if there’s anything we can do to help.”

Ye Ningwan sniffed and said in a low voice.

"On behalf of Ninth Master, I thank all the brothers and sisters-in-law."

If Madam Pei were to bring up the matter at the gate again after Ye Ningwan said those words, it would make her seem incredibly insensible.

Pei Minghan tugged at Madam Pei, who could only swallow her words as if she had swallowed a fly. She glared at Ye Ningwan with dissatisfaction, not wanting to say another word.

Pei Minghan, however, was quick-witted and spoke first, smiling at Ye Ningwan.

"Auntie Jiu, you're too kind. Don't worry, Uncle Jiu, our Pei family will not abandon you. We will definitely help you get him out."

Ye Ningwan naturally knew that Pei Minghan was mostly trying to make amends for his mother, so she didn't say anything, but simply wiped away her tears.

"Then thank you very much, nephew."

Although Ye Ningwan hadn't mispronounced the name, the words "nephew" still sounded awkward to Pei Minghan.

He barely suppressed the uncomfortable feeling and then spoke to Old Master Pei.

"No matter what, we can't let Uncle Jiu stay in that kind of place. He just woke up not long ago, and he still has a lot of health issues. He also needs to go to the hospital for check-ups frequently. It would be terrible if something happened to him there."

Hearing Pei Minghan finally utter a few words, Old Master Pei's expression clearly improved considerably.

He nodded and spoke slowly.

"I will send someone to handle it. Get Fengzhi out on bail first, then we can discuss other matters."

When Old Master Pei got to this point, it was clear he intended to end the conversation. Everyone could guess that his next sentence would be that it was getting late, he was tired, and he would then send everyone away.

But Pei Minghan went on to say something else.

"Grandpa, I have something else to say."

Grandpa Pei didn't say anything.

Pei Minghan, however, couldn't care less about any of that and spoke directly.

"Now that this matter has blown up so much, countless eyes are watching the Pei family. The Pei family must not do anything now, otherwise, once they are caught doing something wrong, they will probably be pushed into the eye of the storm."

Madam Pei sneered.

"Hasn't the Pei family been thrust into the spotlight yet?"

Pei Minghan ignored her.

“What I mean is, Uncle Nine’s health is not good to begin with, and the hospital should be able to issue a certificate that would allow Uncle Nine to leave that place. Uncle Nine’s lawyer can handle this.”

Madam Pei said sarcastically.

"Will this work? As long as your Ninth Uncle is still a member of the Pei family, no matter how he was bailed out, those netizens who know nothing will pin the blame on the Pei family! At that point, who will care whether the Pei family actually intervened or not!"
