Ye Ningwan opened the door and stood in the doorway.
The two bodyguards immediately pleaded with Ye Ningwan as if they had found a lifeline.

Madam Pei, her eyes red, opened her mouth, and after a long while, she managed to grit her teeth and utter a few words.
"Ye Ningwan, are you getting revenge on me?"
"What happened back then wasn't my fault. Zhang Qin made the arrangements, and Ye Ruoxin was the one who did the dirty work. Why are you seeking revenge against me?"
"Zhang Qin has wronged you. He's not as simple and easy to control as you think. He can betray me, and he can betray you too! Just you wait!"
Ye Ning smiled.
"Sister-in-law, what are you talking about? Zhang Qin and I are just using each other. There's no such thing as betrayal or not being betrayed. Didn't you hear what I just said to him?"
Madam Pei stared intently at Ye Ningwan.

Why would Ye Ning let Zhang Ji betray and leave so easily, given how useful Zhang Ji's knife was?

Ye Ning smiled.

After saying that, Ye Ningwan stepped over Madam Pei.

Two bodyguards immediately stepped forward and flanked Madam Pei, preventing her from leaving the room.

But Madam Pei struggled and fell to her knees with a thud, crying hysterically towards Ye Ningwan's back.
"Ye Ningwan, I'm begging you, I'm begging you! Don't hurt them. They don't know anything, they didn't do anything to you, it's all my fault. If you want revenge, come at me!"
Ye Ningwan's icy voice drifted over from not far away, devoid of any emotion.
"If she keeps causing trouble, have someone give her a sedative. That way you'll have some peace and quiet."
Ye Ningwan turned a corner and found Zhang Qin leaning against the wall at the top of the stairs.
